More About the Author

Ben Glenn was diagnosed with Dyslexia and other Learning Disabilities while in grade school. As an adult he also learned that he had ADHD and suddenly everything about his life made perfect sense.

Dropping out of college to pursue a love of art and speaking, Ben has been on the road, full-time since 1995, traveling to every part of the United States as well as to more remote places like China and Australia. He blames his ADHD...but he's secretly happy about it.

You see, Ben belongs to an ever-growing group of individuals, who took their disability turned it upside down and discovered that they have ALL kinds of abilities that "normal" people just don't have.

Years of living with and studying ADHD have brought Ben to the firm conclusion that ADHD impairs a person's life the most when that person is trapped in an ADHD-unfriendly environment or does not possess the information they need in order to deal with their symptoms in the right way. Ben's special mission is to share the realities of ADHD through his speaking and writing with as many people as possible.

Married for over fourteen years, he, his wife and two daughters live in a great little city called Indianapolis.

Having worked with ADHD children and youth in schools, athletics, and the church, I found Simply Special to be a piercing reminder that psychological labels more often than not inflict wounds rather than renewed emotional health. The author, an "ADHD dyslexic", transparently and courageously shares his journey of rising above the stigma attached to his condition. His story of confusion to celebration is an easy read that possesses a profound simplicity. It is filled with real-life humor, insightful facts, practical challenges for ADDers and their families, and inspiration for aggressively engaging personal giants. It appears that Simply Special may be the beginning of a series by Mr. Glenn addressing other pertinent aspects of the ADDers world. I certainly hope so...for the sake of the millions like Mr. Glenn who have been misunderstood and the millions of ignorant ones like me who have failed to recognize ADHD as a potential blessing rather than an unfortunate, inherent curse. Plus, there are some great cartoons mingled through its pages.

My 13 year old son had ADD and he saw Ben at his middle school. While watching his show on you tube I decided to look up any books written by Ben Glenn. I bought Simply Special and cannot tell you enough how much I loved this book. He puts things in easy terms and helped me understand what is going through my sons head. So many of his explanations are my son to a T. Towards the end of the book he has a comment from another parent after one of his speeches and that parent's comment had me in tears. He perfectly described how I feel. Every parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle friend, sibling, teacher, Dr, and every other person associated with anybody with ADD/ADHD should read this book. I think it should actually be a requirement. I truly hope Ben will be back to our school and I will take off work if necessary to see him. He is amazing and gave me a whole new insight to ADD and also a lot of hope for my son.
