5.0 out of 5 stars This is great fun!
While I'm not one to have the need to carry a bag, I love creative things and I love great gift ideas -- and this is all of that and more! Jodi Kahn is funny, inventive and full of wonderful ideas for things you can do yourself. This is a must-have for anyone who likes to make things for themselves and come up with their own individual sense of style! It's a must-have...

I wish I'd paid more attention to the subtitle of this books ("No-Sew, Low-Sew") and read the other Amazon reviewers before buying this book. While there are some unique bags in this book, NOTHING assembled with duct tape and staples is "four-figure-price-tag-worthy" as the product description suggests.

I make and sell bags and was looking for some different patterns. This book does have bags that are different, but they're not sellable to the market I'm trying to reach.

This book would be a great high-school project book, but otherwise, it's a bust. The bags made from placemats and the ones made from fabric shower curtains and pillow cases are the only noteworthy bags. The rest just seem disposable because of the construction materials.

Buy yourself a copy...then some more for gifts! Anyone with a proclivity for crafts, homemade projects, etc. will absolutely love it!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Simply Sublime Bags: 30 No-Sew, Low-Sew Projects (Paperback)
My mom got this book for me: "Simply Sublime Bags", and I love it! I already made the CAUTION tape bag and all my friends think it's adorable. My mom is going to make the Nights in white Satin bag too. I would recomend this book for any kid who likes bags and wants to look super cool ; )

5.0 out of 5 stars Call me a bag lady but...., December 26, 2009

This review is from: Simply Sublime Bags: 30 No-Sew, Low-Sew Projects (Paperback)
I'm a beginner sewer who can't follow the directions on a matchbook cover, but
this book is very clear and concise with pictures that match the directions.
Without ever having made a bag before, I made three of them successfully using
a sewing machine and what little skill I have. I actually put in a zipper
successfully following Jodi's instructions, and I never thought that possible.
And here's what's more: just because Jodi uses duct-tape doesn't mean you
have to! Any seam she tapes down can be sewn down! Use your common sense!
Also, if you don't like the kind of material she uses, choose your own!
I did,and the results were fabulous. As a matter of fact, I think I'll write
to her myself and let her know how wonderful this book really is!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, functional, and fashionable...it's in the bag!, April 8, 2009

This well illustrated, fun and instructive book enables crafters and sewers of ANY ability to create durable, attractive purses, totes, and accessories. There are detailed instructions, patterns and tips for variations to suit your needs.
Each project in the book requires little investment in time or money, and encourages creativity. They are labeled as to skill level (1-5). While I am a well intentioned, but not talented crafter, I found the higher skilled projects were wonderful inspiration and could be easily altered to fit my level of expertise.
I have been enjoying this book and ordered more to give to friends.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jodi at the Country Living Fair in Ohio and got a preview of this book. I love that the bags are simple, yet so creative. The illustrations are well done and easy to understand and the photography is wonderful. This is such a fun book.

Luckily I borrowed this book from the library, because I would have been disappointed if I had purchased it. It was returned the next day! The bags in don't look so bad but the best one is the one pictured on the cover. However many of the other bags look good from the outside but are really made out of fabric lined with duct tape. Some were even stapled instead of sewn. Good for kids who get tired of things quickly. Unless you can revamp the patterns and add interfacing and fabric lining, then this book is not for a serious purse maker. Its great for kids or if you want to make a quick bag you don't expect to last too long.

A great book with innovative no-sew options - including some interesting uses for duct tape. The bags are very cute, the instructions easy, and the tone is very much appreciated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nicely done, May 22, 2009
This review is from: Simply Sublime Bags: 30 No-Sew, Low-Sew Projects (Paperback)
It lives up to it's name, most of the projects in the book can be done without a sewing machine, and some of the most clever and cute purses are made fabric, duct tape, and a stapler. You can't get much simpler or lower sew than that. It's inspiring, and better than that? It's a great book to use with tweens and younger girls because there is a lot of room for personalizing and customizing in projects that are easily done, and quickly enough done not to bore.A lot of the projects are perfectly appropriate for gifts for grandmas and aunts. I do recommend for younger kids, you pick a project together and you read through the instructions and set everything up.

I was drawn to this book and was not disappointed. Though a very experienced seamstress, I like the simplicity of putting gifts together quickly for grandkids and the ladies in my life. I've come to realize that my younger giftees don't actually appreciate my vintage ways, so i've joined the "hip" generation with accessories that appeal to their contemporary styles and less fussy construction. I love this book!
