About the Author

Saint Therese de Lisieux (1873-1897) or the "Little Flower of Jesus" was the youngest of five girls. Quite spoiled at first, she was also drawn to prayer as a child. With special permission, she joined the Carmelite convent of Catholic nuns at Lisieux at fifteen. Accepting failing health and the end of her dream of becoming a missionary, Therese developed a "Little Way," a spirituality of embracing the challenges and events of everyday life for the love of God. Her autobiography, sharing the Little Way, was a bestseller soon after her death at twenty-four. Therese became a saint in 1925 and a Doctor of the Church in 1997.

I bought this for a friend who is moving across the country. I truly thought about keeping it, it is such a lovely little book. It starts off describing who St. Therese was and then moves into morning and evening meditations, and includes a little "thought for the day" to use throughout the day. It focuses on Therese's "little way" and whether you are familiar with "Story of a Soul" or have never heard of it, these little meditations both help you frame your day with the Lord, beginning to end, and offer you ways to make all the "little" moments of your day holy.

I am using Simply Surrender each day and each evening. It is extremely helpful and I hope to continue praying with it with the Story of a Soul, new translation. They are both books you cannot rush through.
