4.0 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD PERFORMER
This shredder is very quiet, very powerful, and does what it's supposed to do. It easily shreds 17 sheets, junk mail, CDs, credit cards, paperclips and staples. Even if paper isn't put in straight it won't stop, jam, or reverse - it's pulled in and shredded to confetti size pieces which should be small enough for people not associated with the CIA or FBI. On the back it...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok
This shredder seems decent for the money. It has a cheap plastic feel and look to it but so do the low-mid range Fellowes I've used. It is the quietest shredder I've ever had. The 1.5"+ strips (which are clearly stated in the specs) are much bigger than I imagined. My previous shredder produced confetti size output and I thought this one wouldn't be so much larger,...

4.0 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD PERFORMER, May 3, 2010
This review is from: SimplyShred SG-820C Smart Ultra Quiet Heavy-Duty 17-sheet, Paper, Credit Card, Staples, Paper Clips, CD Shredder (LCD Display) (Electronics)
On the back it has a small safety switch that prevents the top main switch from being turned on, which is good if you have children. It also has a bin full indicator and comes with a small bottle of oil and 3 plastic bags.

Credit cards and CDs are shredded to the same size as shredded paper since the same cutter is used for all three, albeit much of the CD breaks apart into smaller pieces. I set a box atop the shredded paper to catch these pieces since no container is - but should be - provided by the manufacturer. Also, the shredder is somewhat heavy (40 lbs.) and the handles need to be located on the sides because it's awkward to carry with them located front and rear.

According to the websites of the manufacturer and Amazon, this shredder is model SG-820C and has a 3-year warranty on all parts, which is one reason I purchased it. The manufacturer sent me model JP-820C and the manual states that it has a 1 year warranty on all parts. So I contacted the manufacturer and was assured that the manual is outdated, and that it has a 3-year warranty on all parts and a 7-year warranty on the cutter. It would be wise to make sure and get the 3-year warranty in writing. Makes you wonder whether they are mistaken or deceptive. This company needs to get its act together!

Update: 1/07/2012
I have to say that I am pleased with this shredder since I've had it for over a year now and it has performed flawlessly.

Anyway, if you don't care about having micro sized pieces, I think this is a good deal.

Shredder works well; we are very pleased with it. Only problem is that the bin thinks it is full, it stops and you have to press down the shreds often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great machine for irraticating those pesky pieces of paper containing your identity, October 7, 2011

This handy little shredder is strong and takes care of business. he is a stealthy soldier, completing the task in a very quiet manner. This shredder has a sleek professional look and handles multiple sheets nicely. I have also shredded credit cards with ease. The only down side for this product is that the bin seems to fill too quickly; of course that could have something to do with the amounts that are put through it in our household.

All in all.... great product.... 5 STARS.... excellent buy for the $$.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Quiet, fast, nice, easy to empty, November 11, 2010
This review is from: SimplyShred SG-820C Smart Ultra Quiet Heavy-Duty 17-sheet, Paper, Credit Card, Staples, Paper Clips, CD Shredder (LCD Display) (Electronics)
Just ordered this through the manufacturer's site (they had a coupon) after researching on Amazon. In case you were wondering, the duty cycle is 5 min on, 30 min off. Arrived quickly, easy to setup up, although the caster wheels required a little force to pop in all the way. So far, it works great, definitely handles 17 sheets of paper. My only complaint is that there are reviews among the SimplyShred products where it is obvious that someone for the company posted these reviews. That always makes me wonder why they have to post their own reviews. Since they are located not too far from where we are, I figured that if we had problems, return shipping wouldn't be too expensive. So far, I would say this shredder is a great value for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Shredder EVER!, November 10, 2011

This is the worst shredder EVER. It's so bad that I leave work frustrated almost every night. I tried to kill it the other day so it would just go away and we could get a decent shredder for our office but no, this sucker JUST. WON'T. DIE.

Yes, this shredder is whisper-quiet so maybe I should have given it another star. My biggest problem with the shredder is that it never picks up momentum. It jams maybe every 5th time I put somthing in it and repeatedly stops, giving the "bin full" message. When I open up the bin it's MAYBE 1/3 full, so I push down the shredded paper, close the bin and keep shredding. Then, 5 pages later is says "bin full" and I open the drawer, push the paper down and away we go. All. Day. Long. Totally ridiculous and a huge waste of time. "Bin Full." "Bin Full." "Bin Full." I have dreams where the words "Bin Full" in all their finiteness.

I'm never aggressive with the shredder. I never gave her any reason to be uncooperative. I mind the 17 page max and also the "5 minutes on, 30 minutes off". We do not have a high volume of shredding. This might work as a home shredder where you're just shredding junk mail a couple of times a week, but for a small office even, do NOT get this shredder. We're a tiny nonprofit and this can't even keep up with us.

Also, another bad thing about the bin is that it has a little foot that sticks out on the inside so every time you go to take the bag out it rips the bag and paper flies everywhere. We have a cleaning crew but on weekends when they don't come in I'm on my hands and knees picking shredded paper out of the carpet.

The whole bin full crap is too much for me to handle. Once I start getting on a roll (like 20 seconds into my shred pile) it jams up with the error. If I sweet talk it a little sometimes I can shred for......drumroll.......A FULL MINUTE. But that's pretty much the max.

DO NOT BUY THIS SHREDDER EVER. Unless of course you just need to use it to shred one handful of papers a day or something similar. If I could give this shredder "0" stars I would. Don't. Do. It.
