Worked great to stabilize some wood 4x4 posts that were rotted off.

Anyway, saw this product through Youtube demos and they came highly recommended in my online research.

I have a post and rail fence, and have needed to replace several leaning posts over the last couple of years, especially right after the winter. This can be very expensive when a professional does the repair. Then I found out about this item, the EZ Mender, which allows you to easily reinforce an existing fencepost, even one that has begun to rot below the surface. The two steel frames are hammered into place on either side of the post, and then securely screwed to the post. Your post is now upright again and firmly reinforced at the base of the post below ground. I can't believe how easy and inexpensive this repair is.

I installed this item and works well. However be aware while the picture shows 2 units the package actually arrives with one. What is confusing is that other offers have pictures with 1 unit. Usually you need 2 for proper installation. I managed to get the job done with one.

As noted by others, you need 2 of these for them to be useful.

My situation was a 6' privacy fence that rotted out at the cement base due to the footing being covered in soil.
When I received the items and looked at the instructions, I was cynical that they'd work since I'd be hammering them into the concrete footing and they start off by going in at a bit of an angle, but the wedge part half way up straightens them up once you get them in deep enough. Took about an hour, but your milage will vary depending on the material you are hammering into.

PRO* TIP: Use 2 sledges! Place one sledge on the unit's target area and strike it with the other. Much easier, quicker and less damaging than trying to hit the E-Z Mender directly. I recommend the smaller hand sledges, not the big boy.

Also, the instructions don't mention using the larger hole towards the top, but when I had pounded them in as far as I could they were still a bit separated from the post. Drilling a hole through the post, from one hole to the other (be sure they are aligned) and tightening the E-Z Menders to the post with a 5" bolt took care of that.

* I am by no means a "Pro"

First, I am not much of a handy man so I had some reservation whether or not I can do the repair. To keep it from getting worst and avoiding the heavy expense of replacement, I got 4 of these things at my local HD store for around $10 each after 4 of my posts were leaning(wood is rotted near the base after 13 years, damage may be a result of wear and tear or bad job installing the posts).

Installation of this product took me about 8 hours(2/post)which includes digging dirt/preparing the work area, pounding the mender into the ground with a hammer and mixing/pouring concrete(60LB of cement should do fine for a hole that's about 12" deep). If you want the fence post to be sturdy, I would suggest pouring concrete($3-$5 per 60LB bag) and make sure the hole that holds the concerete is deep enough.

One last thing, I only install one mender per post, not 2 as the company suggested and the post is still very sturdy. I have a feeling it will should last many years before having to replace the whole fence. I can't find anything to complain about this product.

I found it hard to drive these into concrete just by hitting the ledge under the center hole. It was much easier to tilt the Mender away from the post (it will straighten itself up as you drive it down) and drive it by hitting a wood block on top of the mender. The wood block will distribute the force. If you hit the mender directly on the top, you'll probably twist it.

It is easiest to use only one mender on the side of the post opposite the side with the rails. Menders on any of the other three sides require removal of the bottom rail. To add a second mender on the rail side, cut off the ends of the two bottom rails on the post. (Leave rails flush with the two right angle sides.) Install mender on rail side of post. Then screw a 2x4 strip on each of the two right angle sides, using (2) 3" screws. Screw the two bottom rails to these 2x4 strips.

Had a leaning fence post that was causing two sections of my privacy fence to sag. I kept putting the repairs off because of cost, the fence is really still in good condition and I'm not much of a carpenter. Anyway, saw this product through Youtube demos and they came highly recommended in my online research. I can't begin to say how great these EZ fence menders are...they were exactly as described and installation was the easiest part of fixing the fence. My post was indeed rotted a bit at the bottom when I dug around it. I took a small sledge hammer and hammered them in the ground on the front and back of the post. A simple screw on each side to secure it and then I was pouring quik-crete in that hole and I was done. There are several Youtube video clips that demonstrate better than I can write about it. The quik-crete hardened in less than an hour and I proceeded to put the fence back together. If, like myself, you just want to perform a quick repair of a fence post and save yourself some cash, I can highly recommend these. My local retailer had a similar product, but it wasn't as long and they were twice the price.
