Editorial Reviews

When champions of The Simpsons contend that the animated TV show is the best-written show on the small screen, they're referring as much to the songs that pop up in most episodes as the dialogue. Well, here's a springboard to the Springfield Sound that Simpsons supporters will find irresistible. The musical hotbed of indeterminate locale has drawn everyone from Sonic Youth to Tony Bennett, both of whom contribute original material to Go Simpsonic. But with a cast that includes the inimitable likes of Krusty the Klown ("Like Father, Like Clown"), Waylon Smithers ("Happy Birthday, Mr. Burns"), and Patty and Selma Bouvier ("We Love to Smoke"), who needs pampered VIPs? Toss in the spirited "Everyone Loves Ned Flanders," Kirk Van Houten's wrenching "Can I Borrow a Feeling?" and the Brothers Four (!?) parody "The Ballad of Jebediah Springfield," and you have a singin' and dancin' hullabaloo to last a lunchtime! --Steven Stolder

5.0 out of 5 stars Down Canyonero!!! October 19, 2003
Format:Audio CD
I bought this CD on Sunday Jan 2nd 2000 from the now-closed Virgin Megastore in the Caesar's Palace shopping mall. It didn't get as much spinning time in my CD player as the previous CD but it has just as many good tracks, though it is still bloated-out with too many different 'end credit' and dialogue tracks. Standout songs included Canyonero, Homer Flintstone, Underwater Wonderland, and Garbageman. I also the love the McBain song, which could have been longer.

Still, Alf Clausen's actual score barely gets a look-in. The lovely Myst-inspired score to Homer 3 has still never been made available (I guess it would be called 'Unprocessed Fishsticks') and even the irritating-but-fun Duff Beer for Me/You song is left out too. The selection of tracks could have been a lot better across both CDs, and, as before, the arrangement is just terrible. It is extremely hard to find the stuff you want, and the track names are very long. If you are ripping this to your laptop it will take a long while to make sense of the track titles and re-name them.

A must-have for fans though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Collection of Simpsons Tunes December 1, 1999
Format:Audio CD
If you own Songs in the Key of Springfield and enjoy it, you will enjoy this album as well. The song parodies are there, the theme song reworked as tributes, the witty dialogue, it's all there. I've been waiting years to hear "The First Annual Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence" song on CD. My prayers have been answered. A must buy for even the casual Simpsons fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank heavens for St. Rhino! November 23, 1999
Format:Audio CD
Rhino Records to the rescue...proving yet again that they are the hippest group of music lovers on the planet! After the dissapointing "Yellow Album" I called for this follow up to "Songs In The Key Of Springfield" and, Voila! "Go Simpsonic With The Simpsons" comes along. It is every bit as good as "Songs". The standout this go round is the brilliant "Sherry Bobbins" parody of "Mary Poppins", with all songs complete and intact, even the closing montage! The only problem I have with "Simpsonic" and "Songs In The Key..." is, which one to play. Sweet, sweet Rhino...please do a "Vol.3"...and "4"...and "5"...and...

4.0 out of 5 stars I LAUGHED, I CRIED... November 2, 1999
Format:Audio CD
...and then I listened to this CD. What a hilarious trip - with virtually every beloved Simpsons character from Ned Flanders to Mr. Smithers making a star turn on this nonstop collection of musical-comedy parodies, with many numbers done to the melodies of TV-show themes past, with lyrics chocablock with references both popcult and esoteric (my favorite from the first half of this disc was a lyrical nod to "the extra arms of Vishnu"), this collection belongs in the Christmas stocking of every honorary Springfieldite on your list. The CD, like the show that inspired it, embodies the American pop culture of our time at its best: refusing to take itself seriously, fondly reworking popcult motifs of years and decades past, and cracking a rancor-free, politically-incorrect equal-opportunity-offender whip upon the humorless and self-important in every sphere, GO SIMPSONIC WITH THE SIMPSONS deserves to be the runaway CD hit of the 1999 holiday season. Make sure not to lend your copy - you may not see it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wait Was Well Worth It! November 5, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
After over a year of delay for this CD, we finally get to hear the greatest sountrack sice Songs in The Key of Springfield. Not only that, this one's even better! My personal favourites are "We Put the Spring In Springfield", "SimpsoncalifragilisticexpialiD'OHcious"(the entire series of songs),"Gonna Paint Our Wagon","Scorpio!",and "The Simpsons Smile Time Variety Hour". Those are just to name a VERY small percentage of my favourites! The 4 extra never-before heard songs were also a great way to wrap up this flawless CD. The only problem with it is that it only goes up to season 9. I would've liked to hear the Stretch Dude and Clobber Girl theme song from Treehouse of Horror X on this CD. That is total nitpicking though. U MUST BUY THIS!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not a bloody jukebox! October 7, 2006
Format:Audio CD
This is the second CD of songs which were actually featured on the Simpsons TV show. There were two additional Simpsons albums of songs specifically recorded for CD, about which the less said the better. This CD is the real thing. Songs that Simpsons fanatics will recall from watching the show. Great stuff like the songs from the Mary Poppins parody and "The Simpson Family Smile-Time Variety Hour". Simpsons fans will love it. Of course, if you're not a Simpsons fan you won't be interested in it, so why are you reading this review?

4.0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR ANY SIMPSONS FAN! 1 December 22, 1999
By irmita
Format:Audio CD
Are you crazy about the Simpsons? If so, you must buy this cd which contains mostly songs from the more recent episodes as well as conversations between the characters. With over fifty songs to listen to, from "We Put the Spring in Springfield" to "Happy Birthday Mister Burns," everyone will be able to get a good laugh, even if one has never seen a Simpson episode.
