2.0 out of 5 stars Homer Head
Purchased two of these both fell to pieces after a short while. Not worth the money. If you purchase it, leave it in the package.

As a Simpsons collector and a fan of the original Rubik's cube and other puzzles, I was excited to see this toy. It's as addictive and fun as the original Rubik's cube puzzle, but not nearly as durable. The Homer's head shape is a bit awkward and I found that it is extrememly difficult to rotate the pieces. It's a process of aligning the seams between several oddly shaped pieces, rotating and repeating the process. Sometimes this can get very annoying. But worst of all, one time the pieces weren't aligned correctly and when I tried to rotate it Homer's head broke apart! A small plastic part inside had broken so it was impossible to put it back together. Go ahead and buy this if you love the Simpsons or Rubik's puzzles -- just be gentle!

I gave two Homer's Heads as prizes at a recent party. They were opened immediately and became a major distaction the remainder of the night. It is so funny to see Homer's head get twisted up, in Rubik's Cube fashion (there are 8 pieces in all). You can't keep from laughing, no matter how challenging the puzzle is to solve.
These two worked fine and took a lot of abuse all night long.
I'm really happy I bought them; I think Homer's Head is a great gift to make people laugh again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mmmm....scrambled, March 18, 2003

I just recently got the Homer Rubik's Head and found it to be lots of fun. When you first get it, it really doesn't look like it is going to be hard. But looks can be deceiving! This is a very challenging puzzle. I found it to be a lot more fun than the standard Rubik's Cube for one main reason. Every time you rearrange the pieces you get some distorted version of Homer Simpson that looks like something Picasso could have painted and it really is funny. So I found myself cracking up at many of the arrangements you can come up with.

Unfortunately, just like the real Homer Simpson, this puzzle does have a fault or two. While I have not broken mine it doesn't feel like the toughest toy ever produced and you get the feeling if you aren't careful it would easily be in 8 pieces. Due to the awkward shape of the pieces you have to have them lined up just right before you turn to the next move or it just won't budge. With that said I don't think this would be a great toy for a younger child. I'm 25 and know I shouldn't force the toy if it's sticking. I have the patients to line it up correctly (though towards the end of the puzzle even I had a hard time staying calm, just a little frustrating at how hard it really is!).

All in all, I love this thing. If you are or know a Simpson's fan they would probably get a kick out of this and it really is fun and challenging. You'll find yourself say "D'oh!" time and time again!

Who knew Homer could be so complex?

5.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating Fun!, April 11, 2002

This toy is great if you've got a knack for solving a rubik's cube. But for those of us who have never done that, don't expect to solve this one.... EVER. I've had it for months and I'm still not close. However, it is fun to try, and it has great detail and color on Homer's face. The only bad thing is that the pieces are often very hard (if not impossible) to move. I recommend it to those who have extreme patience :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Homer Cube is great!, December 30, 2002

When I first got it, I thought that it was going to be very easy. I was wrong...it was very challenging and also a little bit frustrating (in agood way). I did solve the puzzle after not being able to put it down for about 8 hours. There are so many different possible combinations, that it is still very challenging time and time again.

The one draw back, and also frustrating part of this puzzle is that at times, it is very difficult to move...and it feels like it would break very easily if you are not careful.

Overall, This is a very good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enbiggen your brane!, July 21, 2004
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I got this toy for Christmas, and after making fun of it "oh, it looks simple enough, should we even play with it", the fun began. As the other reviews have mentioned, it is difficult to turn the pieces, only if you don't have them lined up exactly, which is mildly annoying the first couple times. After that, it's cake. What isn't cake is solving the puzzle! It's been 6 months, and passed from everyone from Grandparents to nieces, and still no completion. As far as durability, this thing has been thrown in frustration several times by myself and I'm sure more by others, and is still in perfect condition... it actually is easier to move the pieces now, go figure.

All in all I would say this is the best toy in the world. But oh, so maddening.

I hate to disagree with the previous group, but I previously had no luck with Rubix cubes. I solved this one though. It took a bit of time (but who wants a toy they solve in day one). Actually with 4 sides it'a a very practical toy. It also proves to be a great talking piece at parties!

Great toy for us adults except that it refuses to wear in. I have to get the pieces aligned just right to spin them. The square cubes just work better. Once I was fighting the head and a piece came off. Luckily I am a millionaire and was able to pay someone else to fix it. I have had no problems since. Overall, fun time killer and chick magnet!
