5.0 out of 5 stars It's Season Six, it's Great!
The other reviewers are upset about how Fox handled releasing this box set in this format. I don't think this is the place to strike out at Fox about that. I read these reviews to find out if I want to buy the item. This box set has the same content as the Homer head, but you don't have to buy the Homer head. Sounds like a good deal to me! 3.0 out of 5 stars new box
I think that though this box is cool, it should be used for some other simpsons dvd.
It will certainly clash with others and who knows if it will even fit in my cabinet.
I will not boycot the series collection because of this.

I will only be slightly irritated. They should have kept with the 1-5 packaging.

I'm sorry for those who bought theirs early, but that doesn't make this a one-star item, by any stretch of the imagination. The Simpsons DVD sets are consistently high quality items, jam-packed with extras, commentaries, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best seasons!, August 7, 2007
This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Sixth Season (DVD)
This is one of the top three seasons (in my opinion) presented in an equally impressive DVD set! This set features cast & creator commentary on absolutely every episode! Also included for every episode are deleted scenes.

Some of my absolute favorite episodes are included on this set.

'Itchy & Scratchy Land' - The Simpson family takes a vacation to Itchy & Scratchy Land. When the robotic Itchys and Scratchys go haywire, the Simpsons must find a way to escape the island.

'Treehouse of Horror V' - features The Shinning (Often referred to as the best Treehouse segment ever), Time and Punishment (where Homer skips through time via toaster) & Nightmare Cafeteria (Principal Skinner finds a solution to his overcrowding problem and the quality of meat in the cafeteria: eating the students. My Personal favorite segment.)

'Bart's Girlfriend' - Reverend Lovejoy's daughter, Jessica (played by Meryl Streep) inspires Bart to act out in an even more rebellious way than usual. Jessica steals the church's collection plate, placing the blame on Bart. It's up to Lisa to reveal the truth.

'Homer the Great' - Homer joins the secrete society know as the Stonecutters. When it's revealed that Homer has a birthmark the shape of the Stonecutter logo he is named the chosen one.

'Lisa's Wedding' - Lisa meets a mysterious fortune teller who reveals what the future holds for her.

'Two Dozen and One Greyhounds' - Santa's Little Helper falls in love with another Greyhound and the two have 25 puppies. The Simpsons are overwhelmed by the litter and decide to give them away, but before they can Mr. Burns kidnaps the puppies in an attempt to make a greyhound skin tuxedo.

'The PTA Disbands' - Bart pushes the teachers to strike. Local Springfieldians take over the teaching positions, so Bart must find a way to fix things between the teachers and Principal Skinner.

'Lemon of Troy' - The kids of Shelbyville steal the Springfield lemon tree. Bart leads the pack to retrieve the tree from Shelbyville along with the help of Homer and Ned.

'Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part One)' - The infamous season cliffhanger. So who shot Mr. Burns?

These are just some of the great episodes. 25 episodes in all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shame for some, perfect timing for me!, August 5, 2007
This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Sixth Season (DVD)
I understand why people are pissed and they probably have a right to be. But why give this DVD set a one star rating? Because you're mad? As the other reviewer said this is not the place to lash out at Fox. This is a five star DVD set on all accounts. Would you rather just never have this official box set available? At least they heard the voice of the public and tried to solve the problem, that's more than most companies would do. Better late than never. If you don't like your Homer head then sell it on eBay and buy the promo/w t-shirt at Wal-Mart while you still can for only $21 bucks! If it means that much to you to have matching set just pay the $21. God knows you got your $35 bucks worth of viewing pleasure over this two year period.

(To those confused about the debacle I'm referring to, let me explain. The first release of this DVD set was packaged in a plastic container of Homer's head. The problem with this is that it looks very out of place on a shelf with the previous card box sets. And for anal retentive people like myself that's a big no-no. So up until this last month it was the only option other than the one Fox gave to fans so they could send in for a mail-in replacement case that fits the format of the earlier season releases. Many fans had issues receiving this replacement. But now since this new official box-set has been released those people are upset. Thus all the one-star reviews. However, I assure you this is a five-star DVD set.)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Review for the Product, Not the Box, August 29, 2007
This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Sixth Season (DVD)
Oh, this box issue is so tedious. I bought this originally with the "Homer head" sleeve and discarded the sleeve and placed each disc in a thin clear holder and wrapped the four discs with a rubber band. Ugly but practical. I am not interested in a perfect-looking library shelf. I am interested in hilarious cartoons. Seasons four through eight of The Simpsons are so good.
Okay, about this season...
This season, the Sixth, features great standouts such as: Bart in a Rear Window homage, the delightful "Lisa's Rival" (the B-story features Homer selling sugar), "Itchy and Scratchy Land" (which is amazing considering the writers had to create an entire amusement park from their imaginations), Homer and the gummy Venus de Milo (watch his expression at the candy show after the sour lemon candy disappears!), Bart offending Australia, The Simpsons spoofing "The Shining", Lisa's wedding in the future, the town's citizens standing in for the teachers at school, and Mr. Burns singing "See My Vest".
I find myself playing discs 1 and 3 frequently. But it's just a great bunch of shows altogether.

So aside from the unnecessary dvd case debacle (may the guy who dreamed up that 'character head' idea think twice about any future design ideas), this is a terrific season with plenty of laughs to enjoy over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars "I feel like a kid in some kind of a store"---Homer, October 18, 2008
By
This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Sixth Season (DVD)
Finally! A proper box for this excellent Simpsons season! It fits so snugly and looks so nice on the shelf with the others. Whoever thought of those head cases is a head case! Anyway, as for the season--it is great! The Simpsons kept improving each season until reaching its peak (in my opinion) in season 7. Then it started its rapid downhill plunge after season 8.

Season 6 is The Simpsons in its prime. It includes many of their best episodes, some of which are on my personal top 20 list (i.e. Bart's Comet, Lemons of Troy, Lisa's Wedding, Round Springfield, and Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part 1). The shows include: Bart of Darkness, Lisa's Rival, Another Simpsons Clip Show, Treehouse of Horror V (with parodies of the Shining and Mr. Peabody and Sherman), Bart's Girlfriend, Lisa on Ice (the ice hockey episode), Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy, Fear of Flying, Homie the Clown, Bart vs. Australia, Homer vs. Patty and Selma, A Star is Burns, Two Dozen and One Greyhounds, The PTA Disbands, The Springfield Connection (Marge becomes a cop). All the episodes are excellent (Springfield Connection is probably the weakest of the group), but to save space, the following are synopses of a few of my favorites of the 25 episodes in season 6:

Itchy & Scratchy Land: Lisa and Bart nag Homer into agreeing to a family vacation to "the violentest place of earth" with such attractions as "Searing Gas Pain Land" and "Unnecessary Surgery Land." The documentary on Roger Meyers Sr. is hilarious: he was criticized in 1938 for his cartoon "Nazi Supermen are our Superiors."

Sideshow Bob Roberts: This show includes a hilariously accurate parody of Rush Limbaugh, Birch Barlow. The Conservative talk show host starts an uproar to get Sideshow Bob out of prison and the vote-conscious Mayor Quimby complies only to face Bob in his reelection campaign. The campaign commercials are great!

Bart's Girlfriend: Bart falls for Rev. Lovejoy's daughter, Jessica, who is not what she seems.

Lisa On Ice: Lisa finally finds a sports position she is good at--hockey goalie. Unfortunately, Bart plays for a rival team.

Homer Badman: Homer is accused of sexual harassment by the babysitter. The media circus that follows is brilliant in its real world accuracy.

Homer the Great: Homer wants all the quirks enjoyed by members of the sacred fraternity The Stonecutters. He must honor the sacred parchment or his stomach will become bloated and his head plucked of all but three hairs...wait a minute?!?

And Maggie Makes Three: A touching look at the sacrifice Homer makes to afford the new arrival. He quits his dream job at the bowling alley to crawl [literally] back to Mr. Burns where he receives the customary de-motivational plague...er, plaque.

Bart's Comet: Bart discovers a comet and it's headed right at Springfield! The townspeople then engage in the classic debate of who should be saved in the limited bomb shelter space. A congressional bill to evacuate Springfield is voted down after a rider is attached to support the perverted arts.

Lisa's Wedding: This episode was voted #1 by TV Guide. It is one of my favorites, too. Lisa has her fortune read and learns about a love she'll meet in college (Hugh Grant parody, Hugh Parkfield). We then get a glimpse of the Simpsons family in the future. Lisa shows her devotion to her crude, yet well-meaning, father.

Round Springfield: Another touching episode where Lisa loses her friend Bleeding Gums Murphy and vows to keep jazzman's memory alive.

Lemons of Troy: Kids from the rival town Shelbyville steal the Springfield lemon tree (the sweetest fruit known during the time of their forefathers) and Bart and the gang are intent on getting it back. From this episode, we learn that the two towns were created due to a split that developed among a group of pioneers led by Jebediah Springfield and Shelbyville Manhattan over the legality of marrying cousins.

Who Shot Mr. Burns (Part One): In the spirit of J.R., Mr. Burns is shot after he steals oil from a well built on the Springfield Elementary School grounds and unleashes a device that blocks the sun's rays over the town. For poetic justice's sake (or maybe, there's more to it than that), Mr. Burns falls on top of the town sundial and the hunt is on for the shooter. Sounds like a good story for a sequel....

This simpsons season is a very good movie to add to your collection. The episode about mr.burns being shot is actualy pretty good. this season for the simpsons shouls have come out with part two of who shot mr.burns. but, other than that, this movie also has episodes of the famous tree house of horror. also, the episode when bart gets a girlfriend, i hate that one. it never made anysense. But other than that, there are also some other entertaining episodes. like, The springfield kids going to war with shelbyvill kids. But other than those episodes, this is a good dvd to add to your collection. Please comment and rate. thanks for reading.

All the negative reviews are just people complaining about the packaging (this was the first to offer two options) But the episodes in this season are some of the best, and so far my favorite episodes of the best TV show ever.

This is a great season for any Simpsons fan. It has of course, the famous "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" Part 1. I liked the regular box version versus the Homer's Head version, but I just found out that the manufacturer is discontinuing the regular version and will only be selling the Homer's Head version (don't know if they will re-release the regular version or not), so you better grab the regular version soon before you can't find it anymore!
