It's gonna be good!,
This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Third Season (DVD)
The third season of 'The Simpsons', packed with memoriable episodes (eg. 'Stark Raving Dad', 'Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington', 'Homer at the Bat', and 'The Otto Show'). The humour in this is so witty, and this is the season where they finally get the voices, sounds, colour, charecters, jokes etc. right and is a season you have to buy.Episodes: Stark Raving Dad - 19 Sep 1991 PLUS: Their will be more extra's and special features you can shake a stick at. Definitely a series you can't miss. - Pez King

Third Season's a Charm,

This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Third Season (DVD)
All cylinders clicked in the third season of The Simpsons which laid the foundation for the show to become the longest running animated comedy in television history. Aside from the fact that the animation became sharper and the voice dubbing became crisper, the script writing came into its own. The characters are better defined, in particular Homer's in-your-face brashness, Lisa's fervor for truth and justice, and Bart's prankster ingenuity are enhanced and the creative storylines of each episode help to serve this purpose. The plot ideas are fresh and not dictated by popular culture as the more recent seasons are. Virtually all twenty-four episodes are works of art but here are some episodes that really stood out amongst the pack and became classics:Homer Defined: Homer avoids catastrophe when he "eeny-meenie-miny-moed" his way, or as it is coined later on, "pulled or a Homer" to avert a meltdown, therefore saving Springfield from disaster. Treehouse of Horror II: Lisa, Bart, and Homer eat too much candy and have nightmares. Lisa dreams about a Monkey's Paw which gives its owner four wishes, but with an externality of some shape or form attached to each wish. Bart's nightmare is a "Twilight Zone"-inspired short where Bart possesses the power to change people as he sees fit, forcing everyone around him to be happy or else face the consequences. Last but not least, Homer is fired and he becomes a gravedigger. Mr. Burns finds Homer asleep one night in an open grave and captures him in order to build a perfect robot worker, utilizing Homer's brain. Flaming Moe's: When Moe's business goes south, Homer attempts to get wasted by concocting his own drink, in which he adds cough syrup in desperation for an extra ingredient and accidentally lights on fire for a racy kick. Moe steals Homer's recipe and his tavern experiences an astronomical business boom. Radio Bart: When Bart gets a radio microphone for his tenth birthday and after using it to play practical jokes, Bart comes up with a crazy scheme to place his radio transmitter down a well and to pretend to be Timmy O'Toole, a made-up boy trapped down the well. The townspeople are united in accommodating to Timmy, while attempting to free him. But when Bart realizes that he placed a "Property of Bart Simpson" sticker on the transmitter, Bart attempts to retrieve it before he gets into deep trouble and he becomes trapped in the well. Homer At The Bat: Mr. Burns places a million-dollar bet against his rival owner of the Shelbyville Power Plant that his softball team would become victorious over Shelbyville. Burns hires pro players Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Ken Griffey Jr., Don Mattingly, Mike Scioscia, Steve Sax, Ozzie Smith, Jose Canseco, and Darryl Strawberry as employees at the power plant and most importantly as softball players to ensure the victory. But when unusual circumstances hits Burns' major leaguers, save for Strawberry, Burns is forced to play his regular pushovers for the big game. Separate Vocations: Bart is fascinated with law enforcement, after being encouraged by the result of an aptitude exam called the Career Aptitude Normalizing Test (notoriously known as CANT)and he becomes Principal Skinner's crime-busting hall monitor little sidekick. However, Lisa is discouraged by her own exam result when she finds out she's better off as a homemaker and she takes the place of Bart, as one of the unabiding bad kids at school. A classic season of episodes, without the FOX promos, in digital video and surround sound quality, with lots of extras and commentary and you can watch them any time. It doesn't get any sweeter than that. A definite must-buy DVD set.

The Simpsons at their best,
By
This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Third Season (DVD)
The Simpsons had hit their stride in this, the third season. The sappy endings that filled most of the first two seasons were gone, the animation and colors were no longer stiff or quite as washed out and grainy looking, and the voices for the first time sounded clear and perfect. The stories and episodes were also some of the best, and here it was still a surpirse to see guest stars and guest voices on the show (In the episode HOMER DEFINED, Homer sounds ecstatic when he hears that Magic Johnson has called him up at the Power Plant). This season on top of all of the visual imporvements also showed us some of the most entertaining and memorable episodes. LISA'S PONY has Homer turning into a zombie doing the graveyard shift at the Kwik E Mart to pay for Lisa's new Pony, a pony he bought for her after ruining her talent show audition. SEPERATE VOCATIONS has Bart and Lisa switching personalities after taking the Career Aptitute Normalizing Test (or CAN'T) a test to tell you what field you would be best in. Bart cleans up his act, and is offered a hall monitor job at school after hearing he should be a cop, a disgusted Lisa turns tough after reciving Home Maker instead of blues artist. FLAMING MOE'S has Homer's own alcohalic drink saving Moe's Tavern, with Moe taking all of the credit and Homer getting nothing. BART THE LOVER has Bart toying with his lonely teachers feelings by sending her love letters to her, while she thinks it's a man who answered her personal's ad. THE OTTO SHOW is one of everybody's favorites with Bart's pal Otto losing his bus drivers job and having to live with the Simpsons. Finally, I MARRIED MARGE has Homer retelling the kids how he proposed to Marge and his struggles to find a job with Bart on the way. There are PLENTY of other good episodes to talk about in this season such as the softball episode, the episode where German investors buy the power plant and the soapbox derby episode (hopefully will be released in it's original un-cut fashion, even when shown the first couple of times back in 90-91 some scenes were edited out.) The next best thing after this will truly be the next best season of the Simpsons, which is season 4 which also had some excellent episodes, ( DUFFLESS, A STREETCAR NAMED MARGE, HOMER THE HERETIC, ITCHY & SCRATCHY THE MOVIE along with the immortal KAMP KRUSTY.) If season 3 is the best, then season 4 is a close 2ed or maybe 1a and 1b. When this season is released, it might be one of the best DVD sets ever. Anyone who calls themselves Simpsons fans needs this set as theirs hardly a stinker in the bunch. Get it!!

One of the best seasons!,

This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Third Season (DVD)
The Simpsons are known as the best and longest animated series on american television ever!! The third season is probably one of the best seasons of the Simpsons, where the characters actually look like the way they do now, with the sounds (this is the season where the The Simpsons were made in Dolby Surround Sound, so it is extremely clear) and picture quality excellently sharp! This season consists of 24 episodes which are :01 - Stark Raving Dad With guest voices of Michael Jackson, Joe Mantegna, Neil Patrick Harris, Magic Johnson, Chick Hearn, Jackie Mason, Catherine O'Hara, Aerosmith, Terry Cashman, Beverly D'Angelo, Spinal Tap, Kimmy Robertson, Joe Frazier, Danny and many more, this season is hilarious and extensively funny :) Along with all this, the dvd will also feature us with loads of special features such as audio commentary for the episodes, commercials, videos, photo galleries and much more!! All in all, this is a must buy, whether you are a Simpsons fan or not!!

Season 3 Is A MUST BUY!,

This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Third Season (DVD)
Fans of the show can't deny the fact that the 3rd season of The Simpsons was the first which actually LOOKS like the show we see today. The animation is much more fluid than the two preceeding seasons. The voice actors have the characters' voices nailed down to a "T", in addition to the fact that the storylines are much more exubrant. This DVD set will contain all 24 uncut episodes from season 3. Here they are in chronological order.1. STARK RAVING DAD (guest voice: Michael Jackson) In addition to these great episodes, this set is sure to feature some incredible extras which surround the 1991-92 season, such as magazine covers, tv spots, interviews, a documentary, etc. In my humble opinion, the episodes themselves make this set worth every cent. I'm still eagerly anticipating the release of the season 2 set. Hopefully, this one won't be far behind.

While there he meets a fat white guy who claims to be Michael Jackson "Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington" - Lisa enters an essay contest and wins a trip for the whole family to go to Washington, D.C. While there, her faith in democracy is shattered when she witnesses a congressman accepting a bribe. Homer, filled with resentment towards Flanders, hopes that the Leftorium fails. However, Homer actually saves Flanders' business by promoting it to all of his friends. "Bart the Murderer" - Bart starts working for Fat Tony and the Springfield Mafia. When Principal Skinner is discovered to be missing, Bart goes on trial for Skinner's murder. There's a great scene where Homer cracks during the cross-examination and basically states that Bart is the leader of the Mafia. "Homer Defined" - During a near-fatal meltdown at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, Homer frantically presses buttons on his console until he hits the right combination and saves the day. Homer becomes a hero even though he knows in his heart that what he did was a fluke. In the end, everyone discovers that Homer is really a moron. "Like Father Like Clown" - During a tear-filled dinner at the Simpsons' house, Krusty the Clown reveals that he is the estranged son of an Orthodox Jewish Rabbi. "Burns Verkaufen Der Kraftwerk" - Mr. Burns sells The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant for $100 million. The buyers are two wealthy German investors who sell the plant back to Burns after almost going bankrupt. "I Married Marge" - episode about the early years of Bart and Lisa "Radio Bart" - Bart gets a celebrity microphone for his birthday and throws it down a well, pretending to be a kid stuck down there. There's a great scene where a squirrel that resembles Abe Lincoln is assassinated. "Lisa the Greek" - Homer discovers Lisa has the ability to pick winners of football games. So Homer uses Lisa for gambling purposes. "Homer Alone" - Marge has a nervous breakdown and is sent to a resort for some much-needed rest and relaxation. "Separate Vocations" - After taking career aptitude tests, Lisa discovers that the occupation she's best suited for is homemaker while Bart is pegged as a future police officer. Great season on the way to the peak,
This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Third Season (DVD)
Season three is where the show comes in the magic period of faultless episodes and incredible plots unlike today's junk. After the crude animation of the first two seasons the animation improves dramtically.19-Sep-1991 Stark Raving Dad 26-Sep-1991 Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington 03-Oct-1991 When Flanders Failed 10-Oct-1991 Bart the Murderer 17-Oct-1991 Homer Defined 24-Oct-1991 Like Father, Like Klown 31-Oct-1991 Tree House of Horror II: A Simpsons Halloween 07-Nov-1991 Lisa's Pony 14-Nov-1991 Saturdays of Thunder 21-Nov-1991 Flaming Moe's 05-Dec-1991 Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk 26-Dec-1991 I Married Marge 09-Jan-1992 Radio Bart 23-Jan-1992 Lisa the Greek 06-Feb-1992 Homer Alone 13-Feb-1992 Bart the Lover 20-Feb-1992 Homer at the Bat 27-Feb-1992 Separate Vocations 12-Mar-1992 Dog of Death 26-Mar-1992 Colonel Homer 09-Apr-1992 Black Widower 23-Apr-1992 The Otto Show 07-May-1992 Bart's Friend Falls in Love 27-Aug-1992 Brother Can You Spare Two Dimes? These episodes are classics Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington and When Flanders Failed are to of my favourite. The other are just as good, really there are no faults in this season and the next four seasons are just as good if not better. The plots are really good here, especially flaming moe's which is a true classic i love that episode so much. This is the peak of tv, nothing comes close to the simpsons at it's best...

This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Third Season (DVD)
I wrote a review on this DVD set a couple of months back titled "An Educated Guess" for a release date, but I have some new news. I just read an interview with Peter Staddon of 20th Century Fox. He is ahead of the marketing and issuing department. He said in an interview that The Simpsons 3rd Season DVD collection will be released in May of 2003. I know this is kind of a disappointment to some of us die hard simpsons fans, but it will come faster than we think, and it is going to be well worth it. The first and second seasons were wonderful. I still watch both of them a lot. I really enjoy them. But I know that they aren't even compared to the next 8 or so seasons that will be released over the next few years. The Simpsons DVD Zineth is about to begin.

Simpsons Complete Third Season DVD Review!,

This review is from: The Simpsons - The Complete Third Season (DVD)
Wow! What a nostalgic journey this DVD was for me. Upon checking out the third season of "The Simpsons", which is without question, one of my all-time favorite shows, I really got my mind going back to seeing these shows during their first-run on Fox, way back when. By the third season, the show had really started to evolve into quite a hilarious little program. I had not seen a lot of these episodes in years as the syndicated episodes that run on television are often from the newer seasons and boy, did I get a kick out of all them. STARK RAVING DAD- This was the one where Homer got thrown in the insane asylum for wearing a pink shirt. Michael Jackson was the guest voice but he appears billed as "John Jay Smith". The scene with "The Chief" is hilarious. MR. LISA GOES TO WASHINGTON- Another great episode. Lisa writes an essay on America and the family gets to go to Washington. "We the purple? What the hell was that?". WHEN FLANDERS FAILED- Flanders opens up the "Left-Tourium". Not one of the season's better episodes but still good. BART THE MURDERER- Bart bartends for the Mafia and ends up getting put on trial when Principal Skinner turns up missing. The introduction of Fat Tony. A hilarious episode. The trucks outside the Simpson house were one of the biggest laughs when I first saw it. HOMER DEFINED- Homer prevents a nuclear meltdown. Magic Johnson provides the guest voice. LIKE FATHER, LIKE CLOWN- Bart and Lisa try to reunite Krusty with his estranged father. TREEHOUSE OF HORROR II.- The second annual Halloween episode. Bart, Lisa, and Homer all have bad dreams. Halloween episodes are always classics. LISA'S PONY- To make up for messing up Lisa's talent show performance, Homer buys her a pony and as a result, he has to work a second job at the Kwik-E-Mart. Another excellent show. SATURDAYS OF THUNDER- Bart builds a soapbox durby racer with Homer but ends up driving Martin's instead. I could almost swear that they added new footage to this episode because I had the original on an old VHS and there are at least three or four scenes that I don't remember and one where they use completely different dialouge. Check it out for yourself. FLAMING MOE'S- Moe steals Homer's drink idea and becomes a huge success. Aerosmith make a guest appearance. BURNS VERKAUFEN DER KRAFTWERK- Mr. Burns sells the Nuclear Power Plant to the Germans. I MARRIED MARGE- Classic flashback to when Homer married Marge and when Bart was born. Great episode. RADIO BART- At the time, this was the most consistantly funny episode I had seen since the start of the series run. Obviously, I have a new favorite now but back then, this was the funniest episode I had ever seen. My sense of humor has changed a bit since then but this one has somewhat survived the test of time. Bart gets a microphone for his birthday and tricks the town into believing that a boy named "Timmy O'Toole" has fallen down the well. LISA THE GREEK- Lisa helps Homer gamble on football. HOMER ALONE- When Marge has a nervous breakdown, Homer gets stuck taking care of the house. BART THE LOVER- Bart sets his teacher up with an imaginary Romeo. "Three simple words: I AM GAY!". HOMER AT THE BAT- This has to be in my all-time Top Ten. Mr. Burns hires pro baseball players to win a softball game against a rival plant. SEPERATE VOCATIONS- Bart decides that he wants to be a cop while Lisa takes a turn at being the bad seed. DOG OF DEATH- Santa's Little Helper becomes Mr. Burns' guard dog. COLONEL HOMER- Homer becomes the manager of a country music singer. Yet another classic episode. "As much as I hate that man right now, you got to love that suit". BLACK WIDOWER- Sideshow Bob marries Aunt Selma but Bart believes he has evil intentions. THE OTTO SHOW- Otto loses his job as a bus driver and moves in with The Simpsons. Homer's advice to Bart when he realizes he quit playing the guitar had both me and my father laughing hysterically. BART'S FRIEND FALLS IN LOVE- As the title suggests, Milhouse falls in love. The second story with Homer getting a "vocabulary builder" tape instead of a "subliminal weight-loss" one is where the real comedy is at. Marge imagining Homer as a hostage negotiator was one of the big highlights. BROTHER, CAN YOU SPARE TWO DIMES?- Danny DeVito returns as Homer's long lost brother, Herb. There are too many classic Homer moments to name. The third season truly makes the first two look like crap in comparison. The second season had its moments but this is where the show started to realize its full potentiol as the classic animated comedy show it has become.
