More About the Author
Originally brought to life in 1987 for The Tracey Ullman Show, The Simpsons was Groening's amazing entry into the television animation world. Previously, he was best-known for his "Life in Hell" cartoon strip, an irreverent portrayal of love, work, school, life and relationships that currently appears in more than 250 newspapers worldwide and in a multitude of books.
Groening's other Emmy-Award®-winning creation, Futurama, launched on Fox in March 1999 and ran for five seasons. Last year Fox released the direct-to-DVD full-length original feature Futurama: Bender's Big Score. Three additional films will be released and the entire series with new episodes will air on Comedy Central this year.
In 1993, Groening formed Bongo Comics Group, where he serves as publisher of The Simpsons Library of Wisdom, Simpsons Episode Guides, Simpsons Comics, Bart Simpson Comics, Radioactive Man Comics, Simpsons Comics Treasure Trove, the annual Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror, Futurama Comics, more than 36 comic compilations, as well as instant classics including Bart Simpsons Guide to Life, The Simpsons Handbook, and The Simpsons Uncensored Family Album among others!
In addition to the many awards bestowed on his creations (including Emmys, Annies, and the prestigious Peabody Award), Groening was personally honored with the Rueben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year, the highest honor presented by the National Cartoonist Society. To date there are more than 14 million copies of books from HarperCollins in print throughout North America, the UK, and Australia based on The Simpsons, Futurama, and Life in Hell.

This book, is a small but excellent continuation of the previous book, "The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family." The original book contained an amazing amount of details, facts, and humorous quips that define The Simpsons. The quotes and lines they select are classic. This sequel to that book delivers the same kind of material with more characters, couch gags, and guest stars. There is even a wonderful tribute to Troy McClure, voiced by the late great Phil Hartman.
If you or anyone you know enjoys The Simpsons then this book and it's predecessor are "MUST-HAVES." You learn many hilarious things that you may have missed while watching the episodes on TV. This is money well-spent!
Secondly and MOST importantly, the writers (as stated by Groening in the forward) they made it a seperate book. NO ONE who bought the first book (like me) will end up getting scrooged into buying something they already own just to get the extra stuff. It's happened to many of us too many times, and lets hope this trend of good faith in marketing continues on. I compliment the writers in this area. If there is ANY problem with this book, it's that it is no where near the meatiness of the first book. COMPLETE gave us 8 seasons of the show, FOREVER is a minor 2. Regardless, if you loved the first book, the second one continues where the first one left off, just smaller. I would have given it 5 stars if they put off printing for at least another season. Oh well, good book anyway or as Mr. Burns would say "Excellent."
I keep all (currently) three books near the TV, and I'll review the pages for each episode before I watch the rerun. In doing so, it opens my eyes to a lot of the little details that I missed the first fifty times I saw the episode.
Essentially, this is the owners manual for seasons 9 and 10.
