As an avid gamer I'm always hesitant about licensed games but the Simpsons fan in me overrode my common sense, and thank god it did. While the game falls under fairly traditional platform game fair the puzzles are actually really well thought out. Using the two characters available to you per level you will be tasked with harnessing each member of the Simpsons family skills to advance. Something I found to be a lot of fun on my own but quickly became extra awesome with a friend. The comedy is spot on and all of the voice actors loan their talents to make the game feel like an episode of the TV show. The only major gripe I have is the typical platform game camera that rarely points in the right direction without your hands on control. Definitely worth the d'oh!

The Simpsons have ventured into the world of video games before, with largely unsuccessful results. Now that EA has acquired the video game license rights, we get The Simpsons Game, which puts you in the shoes of America's favorite animated family. The first thing you'll notice is how good the game looks. Remember that this is a late in life PS2 game, but it looks surprisingly sharp and wonderfully captures the look and atmosphere of Springfield and it's inhabitants. The game also features voice work from the cast of the long running show, and they're all great as well, while the game's story and dialogue are frequently funny, and more than frequently spoof popular video games to boot. What really stops The Simpsons Game from being something special are the many technical problems that plague the game. First off, the in-game camera is schizoid to say the least, and will more often than not seem to work against you. Not to mention that the game's controls are pretty loose and unresponsive, combined with the somewhat shallow gameplay and repetitiveness, and the fact that the game can be finished in one sitting. If you can look past all these negatives though, you'll find one of the few licensed games that actually does it's license justice, but falls short in the gameplay department. That aside though, for any and every fan of the long running show, The Simpsons Game is definitely worth a look at the very least, and maybe next time EA will put on a finishing polish that will give us something really special.

I tried playing this game twice and will probably never go back to it. The controls and the camera are very sloppy and amateurish. Pointing out 'cliche' gameplay doesn't make it any better; it's still fairly boring. Maybe later levels would be better but I just cannot be bothered playing to them. I thought Hit 'n' Run a much better game.

My 11 year old nephew absolutely loved this game. He is a huge Simpsons fan, and had a lot of fun with it.

I got this game for my husband, who is a major Simpson's fan. He loves it and is often laughing at the content and pleased with the quality. He and our daughter play it together and have a great time with it. My husband remarked that it reminds him of the Tomb Raider games as far as how it is set-up (meaning that its not a cheesy rip-off of a cartoon show with poorly constructed game play) and that was another vote in its favor as he's also a fan of the Tomb Raider games for playstation. Perfect game for anyone that loves the Simpson's.

Look, I love the Simpsons. I've been watching it for over 19 years now. I've been playing their games since the early 90s on the NES and playing games like "Bart vs. the Space Mutants". The games are really not that good. The game companies just milk and overkill the Simpsons name in an attempt to make money. It happens all the time with other games as well. This game has some positive things going for it such as really spectacular graphics and some fun puzzle games, but don't expect the game to stand the test of time. That's the difference between the animated comedy we see every Sunday night and the video games. The TV show rules, the games don't.

This game is extremely hard at the beginning and very hard to follow through the first part of the chocolate scenario, I haven't played the whole game yet, but from the outset it appears to be very hard, this makes it unenjoyable to a certain extent and not so anxious to get back to play it.The instruction booklet that comes with it is of no use to get started in the game, and isn't that informative anyway about anything else. The other simpson games were much much better, this game in no way resembles them or is going to be much fun to play,it's a whole different thing, and rather disappointing.

This game is fun and the humor is pretty good. There are references to the show itself, and I truly do enjoy Comic Book Guy's numerous cliches.
The problem with this game, as others have indicated in their reviews, is the gameplay. I've never played a game where the camera angle is the biggest obstacle in the game, but that is the case here. It's a struggle to get the view you need to accomplish certain tasks. Then when you do, it can change on you by itself while you are in the middle of some critical action. Bottom line, it's a good game that could be great if the designers just cleaned up the gameplay. That's always the most important part of any game.

Playing THE SIMPSONS,

THE SIMPSONS have had other video games in the past. Some were entertaining, while others were ho-hum. THE SIMPSONS GAME tries to do what THE SIMPSONS do best and parodies and mocks pop culture. Being a video game, the game parodies other video games. There's a fantasy world level (think EVERQUEST), a GTA-themed level, and a battle combat level (ala the MEDAL OF HONOR series). There's even one point in the game where these versions of THE SIMPSONS meet 8-bit versions of themselves.Plot-wise, there's a lot of weird stuff happening in Springfield and each one of the Simpsons clan find they have new powers. Giant statues start walking and an alien invasion happens. To figure out what's happening the Simpsons have to meet the "creator" and convince him not to erase them when a newer THE SIMPSONS game is released in the future. They eventually do, but the "creator" (Matt Groening) is more interested in a different show he's created (FUTURAMA) and tells the Simpsons he's just using them to make more money. Towards the end of the game, Lisa uses her powers to make a stairway to heaven and challenges God in a game of Dance Dance Revolution in order to get him to give them advice on what to do. Graphics-wise, THE SIMPSONS GAME looks very much like the animated show. You actually look like you are interacting in the world of THE SIMPSONS. Also, the game features the vocal talents of the cast so the game sounds like the show, too. With that said, the camera angle in the game is often terrible, particularly when you are running around or jumping from platform to platform. Also, the controls don't always work the way they are supposed to work. I enjoyed playing THE SIMPSONS GAME. It's designed so that gamers of any level can play it. It looks, sounds, and feels like the tv show, but the bad camera angles at certain points and the control issue are the games only real negatives.

ok,i have been playing this game off and on for two years. The first time i played it i did not put it down for 6 hours. it keeps you wanting to see what the next level will bring you. its not over the top, its simple but has cool things within it. i get frustrated when i get stuck, as there are some hard tasks to complete. there are awesome reasons to Finish levels!! like funny show videos and video game cliche memo's. there are some blast from the NES past things, little fun tid bits,so on so on. just lots of fun!!
I myself am stuck on the level where homer is a gummy bear and has to stop Marge's sisters. They are double headed dragons burning down straw houses. i cannot beat this level the task seems like it cannot be completed, i am so frigging pissed, i have not played the game in a year. other than this, i recommend this game to anyone who loves NES, SUPER NES and PS2 games and likes the Simpsons too... this game stinks on other consoles, i repeat only good for PS2. DON'T LISTEN TO THE HATERS OF THIS GAME, ITS COOL. NOT GROUND BREAKING BUT FUN... |
