The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror is based on the long-running TV series' tradition of special Halloween-themed episodes. The individual souls of this nuclear family are trapped high in Bart's tree house, so you'll need to guide each of the Simpsons through various Springfield locations while battling possessed characters Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner, Moe the bartender, and others. Reunite Bart, Maggie, Lisa, Homer, and Marge with their respective souls at the base of the tree house, and you will be rewarded with a bonus level starring "King Homer."

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected, April 3, 2001
This review is from: The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror (Game Cartridge)
It's pretty much standard practice for game developers to try and cash in on successful franchises. Usually the games are poorly constructed and will often have little or nothing to do with the TV show or movie that they were "inspired" by. Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror is a pleasant surprise and is actually worth playing. As a fan of the series since the beginning I have grown accustomed to being disappointed by cheap products. During the past year or so things have been improving and this game is no exception. Purists will try to tell you that it's a bad game because some liberties have been taken with the episodes that the levels were based on, but I'm here to let you know that the game is fun and challenging. Looked at from the view point of a gamer there are a few problems with it. The worst one being the password feature and how infrequently you can save. However, in exchange for this we get a Game Boy color game with excellent color. Simply put, the game looks great! Also, I would rather be challenged by a game than have everything handed to me with automatic saves everywhere. Although it defeats a game's purpose to be so hard that you can't even play it, it also defeats the purpose to be so easy that you're done in a day. The developers of this game knew that and found a nice compromise between the two. They have also provided two different difficulty levels based on your preferences. If you're a fan of the series and you're a gamer (casual gamers may be in over their heads) I say ignore the whining of the "fan boys" (who are always upset about something) and give the game a chance. I believe that you will be pleasantly surprised.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another lackluster Simpsons game for Game Boy, March 23, 2001

This review is from: The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror (Game Cartridge)
I wanted this game to be good, but it just isn't. I love the Simpsons which is probably the reason I keep buying the games they put out for Game Boy but The levels for this game are just too simplistic and uninspired. Also in order to prevent playing the early levels each time you turn on the game you need to input an 11 letter code which is a annoying. I will probably play with it for about another day or two, then put it away to be forgotten. The two stars are mostly just for the Simpsons name. I would have given it more, but not after paying ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than I Expected, May 12, 2001

This game turned out better than i expected, as i have always been a Simpsons fan and virtualy buy anything to do with the show, so naturaly i bought this game, the prolblem was i knew nothing about it. When i got into the game i actually started to enjoy it. The game is based aroud the halloween episodes of The Simpons with you the player taking on the role of any of the main 5 characters. You have to battle past possesed characters from the show like Mr Burns, and while doing so earn the right to play the bonus level featuring Homer. This is a good game and a bit of a challenge so i would recommend it to anyone
