This game has everything in it a simpsons fan could dream of. Although the game has a simpsons theme that doesn't mean you won't enjoy the game if you don't know the simpsons. The game takes the Crazy taxi formula that is so great and makes it better by allowing you to drive more characters up to 30 each with their own lines from the show and every time you pick up someone they respond to who you are. I.E. when your homer and you pick up bart he says "he its the big man" and homer replies with "that's my boy" and every character says 100's of things making this game entertaining and funny. This game is great if you liked crazy taxi get it. If you like the Simpsons get it. This game is hands down the best simpsons game ever made. Also for those of you who have noticed the ps2 and NGC versions of this game this one is the best graphic wise and gameplay wise. Plus no load times during gameplay. BUY THIS GAME

The concept of this game is a very exciting one! Simpson's game with a Crazy Taxi concept! Right? Wrong!!

1. The catch phrases and character sayings are very repetitive. You would think they would have recorded more phrases. Hearing the characters saying the same phrases over and over again gets old fast.

2. No System Link. While this may not matter to most people, the only way to play this game against someone is through one Xbox console using a split screen.

3. Annoyances: Picking up and dropping passengers off to only see them again seconds later on another part of the map. Could Professor Frink be going crazy with some kind of cloning machine?

4. There is no method to the phrases the characters speak. They just randomly blurt out sometimes completely irrelevant sayings.

5. Delay in voice responses: If you are fast and drop a character off and immediately pick up a new character, you will still hear the old character talking even though they are no longer in the vehicle.

Bottom line... Rent this one because it gets old fast!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best (Simpsons) game ever, March 6, 2002

I was dismally disappointed by Simpsons Wrestling, so I wasn't entirely optimistic about this one. I bought it anyway, though, because I'm a huge fan of the Simpsons. I'm so glad I did. Yes, it's a blatant Crazy Taxi clone, but I liked Crazy Taxi. A difference, though, is the mission mode in Road Rage. Searching for mascots to chase down or newspaper stands to crush is a nice change of pace.
The animation is pretty cool, too, and I like that the real voice talent from the show was used. The catchphrases are funny ("I'm afraid of the future!" - Grandpa Simpson) and they are often specific to the current fare.
The game isn't too hard, either. You earn new characters as you advance through the game, but it's cumulative - even if you don't do fantastic in every round, keep playing long enough and you'll open everybody.
Also neat are the hidden characters (set your Xbox calendar to holidays such as Halloween and Christmas).
This game is best for Simpsons fans, but who doesn't like the Simpsons?

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor, but still some fun to be found, February 2, 2003
This review is from: Simpsons Road Rage Platinum Hits (Video Game)
This takes a while so be patient.

Pros: 1. First Simpsons title since 1998

2. Much Better than Simpsons Wrestling

3. Real voices by simpsons actors.

4. Many a shortcut on this game.

5. a fun 2 player game

6. some good jokes...

Cons: 1. ...that get repetitive faster than the color commentator on NHL 2003!

2. graphics look like Robotech:Battlecry meets Superman (boo hoo hoo!)

3. difficulty settings are just too easy (its actually easier to get $$$ on hard)

4. voiceovers get repetitive in one run!

5. little plot at all, just the problem and the solution, no plot twists or the sort. too predictable

6. Mission mode: WAY too easy!

7. voiceovers lag badly.

8. all about the objective in the end (not good for a comedy king like the simpsons)

9. End Sequence not that good.

10. In game lips do not even move at all!

11. Cut scene graphics are much better than in In Game (did i mention that the cut scenes with Montgomery Burns get repetitive too)

12. Loading times are RIDICULOUSLY SLOW! oh man such a poor game graphically and it takes so long to load. (Ouch!)

Final Verdict: RENT FIRST![.] It would have been an ACCEPTABLE game for the N64, but they dont even tamper with the Xbox's potential. A lamentable day for all simpsons fans

4.0 out of 5 stars I don't see what all the complaining is about., September 10, 2002

I recently purchased Road Rage for Xbox after playing the Gamecube version with a friend. Yes, the game lacks depth. Yes, the dialog can get kind of annoying. Yes, the cars do not handle according to any of the laws of physics. And yes, the game is almost exactly like the great Crazy Taxi (the original, of course). My response to all the criticism, so what! The creators took something good (the Crazy Taxi concept) and wrapped it in something wonderful (the Simpsons license), like a chocolate-covered peanut, or a monkey in a cowboy suit! What the player is left with is a very simple, pick-up-and-play game that is especially excellent when company arrives. It has the same basic appeal as Smash Brothers. For the more open-minded, less gear-headed gamer, Simpsons Road Rage is a fine choice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Yet another lousy licensed game, December 10, 2001

The Simpsons: Road Rage is, at best, a Crazy Taxi wannabe. This is the worst title I've played on the Xbox yet. The Crazy Taxi premise is okay - CT is one of my favorite games - but Road Rage suffers on many levels.

The voice talent, while authentic, is very limited. Characters start repeating phrases within the space of a single run. It's annoying.

The graphics are a cross between bad cel-shading and an intern's first attempt at 3D extrusion. Blech.

The load times before and after each run are insane. I wonder if it's not a result of a "simple" port from one platform to another. This game was clearly not designed to take advantage of the Xbox's memory or graphic capabilities.

Rent it, play it, then get it out of your system - literally and figuratively.

2.0 out of 5 stars Simpsons License wears off too soon, December 21, 2001
This review is from: Simpsons Road Rage Platinum Hits (Video Game)
I rented this one and I'm glad I did. You might enjoy a rental, as well. If you absolutely love The Simpsons (like me) and think there's no way you wouldn't enjoy anything Simpsons related (come on, you've got the first season on DVD, don't you?), you will still be disappointed. If you aren't convinced, I still say rent it, just so you are sure.

It is not as horrible as Simpsons Wrestling. This game is at least playable. Still, it never feels like you are driving a car, however, or any of the other vehicles you supposedly drive. It's more like you are just pivoting an arrow on its axis and pushing a button to move forward and backward. No I'm not expecting a sim experience like Project Gotham, but at least a driving experience, like Crazy Taxi.

After you unlock a few levels, you'll get bored. It becomes even more repetitive than Crazy Taxi ever did. The most ardent Simpsons fanatic might insist on unlocking the relatively large cast of characters, and who doesn't want to drive Homer as Mr. Plow?

But the fun wears off. In a short time, you'll have heard all the banter of every character and gotten over the fun of driving around a very sparsely detailed Springfield. Not that all the Springfield landmakrs aren't there, they just look terrible. Once you've played Halo, you expect a little more than buildings that are nearly flat shaded boxes. I hear this looks better on Xbox than PS2, but that's not saying much.

I think the development team also made a major mistake trying to make the Simpsons a 3D world. It looks funny. Your Simpsons heroes don't look right. If you have the First Season DVD you've heard (in the commentary) that the show producers realized early that the 2D side perspective of faces were so much more expressive than the other views they tried in that first season. A similar view holds for this game. The Simpsons Road Rage would have looked beautiful if done in the style of Cel Damage. Cel Damage's engine does 3D but it looks flat, like you are watching a cartoon. It is absolutely stunning in that perspective (gameplay problems in that title aside). The Simpsons Road Rage would have benefitted greatly just by using a similar engine and graphical feel.

When you finish a level you'll be irritated that they couldn't have the real Krusty voice give you your rating. Instead, you get a horrible imitation. You'll also wonder why you have to view a loading screen (on the Xbox no less!) to go from the game to your summary screen. Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast didn't even do this!

You'll also realize that the key to unlocking items has nothing to do with your ability to play the game. You just play long enough and you'll eventually unlock it all. But it won't matter if you get better at the game.

This is a game unworthy of the Xbox. However, the Simpsons tie-in is not too bad. I would suggest renting it for a week and getting your fill of Simpsons laughs. Hence the two stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly Underrated, September 11, 2003
By
This review is from: Simpsons Road Rage Platinum Hits (Video Game)
I can't believe this game gets so much heat for ripping off Crazy Taxi. SO WHAT!!! Crazy Taxi was a great game and The Simpsons : Road Rage is even better! Any Simpsons fan will definetly LOVE the tie ins with the show. You can go all around Springfield, driving various Simpsons characters that say hilarious things ("The leprechan told me to burn things" - Ralph, "Get out of the way Jerk" - Homer). You can choose from over a dozen characters, including the Simpson family, Apu, Ned and many more. The story mode is also challenging, having the player complete different tasks, not just taxi driving. The multiplayer mode I play all the time with my friends. You have to compete with other players in order to get customers and make money. Don't listen to the critics. Simpsons fan or not, you will love this game. Plus, its a bargin at the greatest hits price of only $20. Go buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Taxi with an edge, May 19, 2003
This review is from: Simpsons Road Rage Platinum Hits (Video Game)
On one hand, this is a graphically inferior version of Crazy Taxi. Graphics aside, the game's fluidity and atmosphere are hurt by the fact it takes ages and ages to load each and every scenario, even if it is exactly the same scenario that you've just finished playing.
This game does have its advantages over Crazy Taxi, though. For a start, it's more fun: You're actually encouraged to bump and destroy stuff. Then there are the loads of Simpsons characters and Simpsons related scenarios, and although they will ultimately wear out, they are fun.

But the one thing that truly gives this game a significant edge over Crazy Taxi is its two player mode: Two rivalling taxi drivers fight it out to win customers, steal customers from one another (there is only one active customer at a time, and two hungry taxi drivers), and ruin as many things on their way as they can to hinder the opponent.
The end result is fun, fun, and then more fun.

2.0 out of 5 stars This game is a rental (from a huge Simpsons fan)..., December 11, 2001

John Evans (Costa Mesa, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Simpsons Road Rage Platinum Hits (Video Game)
Graphics are well done, although you'll never get the level of character detail found on the actual Simpson's cartoon... Gameplay is very straightforward although I was able to get the car "stuck" easily by going off some jumps and flipping over.

However, the game lacks the depth that games SHOULD possess for the XBOX platform... there are only 5 town areas and they are very quickly covered. Replay value is very low. Characters are well done (although they all have the same animation patterns). The voiceovers are the best part of the game in terms of entertainment value for Simpsons fans("Thank you, come again" -Apu)...
