Product Description

Editorial Review

With memorable characters, outrageous storylines, and funny, intelligent writing, The Simpsons has garnered a loyal following. But after watching those hundreds of episodes, and spending millions of brain cells remembering all that trivia, what are Simpsons fans to do with their extra time? To the rescue comes this fun little trivia game packed in a handy tin case. The questions range from the obvious ("True or False: Milhouse is Bart's best friend") to the arcane ("What band played The Simpsons theme in 'Homerpalooza'?"). The directions for actual game play can get a bit confusing, and, though the setup allows people of various levels of expertise to play together, this won't be much fun for non-Simpsons fans. A mini-poster featuring some 300 characters is part of the game and makes for an attractive wall hanging, too. (By the way, the answers to the above questions are: True and Sonic Youth.) --John Moe

5.0 out of 5 stars A great game, fun for any level of Simpsons geek., September 14, 2000

I was surprised at how good this game is. With 800 questions and 200 "name that character" tests, quite a lot of ground is covered, from the obvious to the obscure. Each card has five questions, each question at a different skill level, and the level five questions can get kind of tough and specific (i.e. What was the name of the "gifted" school that Bart went to in the first episode?). A player chooses his skill level for the game, which makes it fairer for players at varying levels of Simpsons knowledge, and thus more fun.

In addition to trivia, the game also incorporates elements of charades, i-spy, and pictionary-type games. This makes it a lot more fun than just straight Q & A and keeps things very silly throughout gameplay.

The rules and instructions for the game are written in the "voice" of the character we all love to hate, the know-nothing know-it-all Comic Book Store Guy. This makes for a somewhat convoluted, confusing read at first, but the game is actually really simple to play.

The tin is goregous with it's colorful cross-section collage of the cast artwork. I wish similar attention to detail was placed on the six-sided die used for the game, which is a mere white cube with stickers on each side, each depicting a simple black-and-white line drawing of the represented character. A nicely painted die would be way cooler, but now I'm just nit-picking.

All in all, a GREAT game! Required study for those hoping to attend Bovine University.

If you buy this toy, make sure you don't get the Tin 2 as well as it is exactly the same but in a differently shaped package! Now I have to pay shipping a second time to return it.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Fun Than a Barrel of Homers, June 10, 2001

Three otherwise serious-minded grownups were reduced to helpless giggles by this game. We all agree that the Simpsons is the greatest animated TV show of all time. On a Geek Scale of one to ten with one being the lowest and ten being the highest, our cumulative Geek score is 29. So we had a blast with this. A couple of things: while the tin is a good, sturdy holder for the game pieces, the cast poster and the number key are flimsy and are going to wear out in no time. I'm taking them to the print shop to get them laminated, and I would recommend to anyone else that they do the same. Also, it is a major pain that this product can't be shipped out of the US. I have a relative living in the US, so I shipped the parcel to them.... Simpsons fans shouldn't have to work this hard to get their hands on a fifteen dollar toy!
