Great for Simpsons Fans,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Simpsons: Virtual Springfield (CD-ROM)
Although I would hope anyone could enjoy this game, it probably would be best for Simpsons fans because of the humor and references to specific episodes that others may have not seen. While not too challenging, it is lots of fun and after you win (by collecting all the cards hidden around the town), a link is given to a website, which gives you more ideas of what to do in Springfield. Bottom line: Great fun, but not for serious gamers.

On the postive side, it looks just like the TV show, and it contains all the Simpsons characters and Springfield locations that you'd expect to see. For a while, it's fun to poke around and see what happens when you click on this door or that drawer. Unfortunately, there's just not enough to do in terms of gameplay. There doesn't seem to be much object of the game other than to collect hidden "trading cards". If you're a Simpsons fan, you'll enjoy it for a while, but it's ultimately kind of a disappointment.

Sometimes not even The Simpsons are enough...,

The Simpsons: Virtual Springfield has two major assets in that the animation and the voices come straight out of the television series. They are extremely entertaining, and practically perfect. But Virtual Springfield is ultimately boring and misguided--it's fun exploring Springfield for a while, but once you realize what the limitations are, and how little variety there is in the things you can see, hear, and do, it gets old kind of quickly. The game's "through-line" of collecting cards doesn't really do much to enhance the experience. If you're a diehard Simpsons fan, you will find much to admire about Virtual Springfield, but there is ultimately little to like or to give more than an hour or so of your time.

As a die-hard fan of the "Simpsons", I love anything and everything that has their image on them. After purchasing the rather disappointing "Simpsons Cartoon Studio" I decided to purchase "Virtual Springfield" and see how much more different it was. What I got was an incredible game that allow the user to explore the town of Springfield as if you were walking through the streets with a virtual reality helmet on. While the game features excellent graphics and sound, and plenty of humorous characters and scenarios, I was only disappointed that the game manual wasn't too informative on how to collect items, especially the series of trading cards that are hidden throughout the town. Besides this minor fault, the game is great for adults, and it would probably be a bit difficult for young children to maneuver around the town using a mouse. All of Springfield's humorous and wacky denizens are here, and some of the places where you can actually visit inside (e.g. the Kwik-E-Mart; Simpson's home; Flander's home) are hysterical and entertaining to the fullest extent. If you are a die-hard Simpsons' fan, then this game is for you. I only wish I could learn how to collect and use most of the items/clues that I need to complete my mission.

A great game game with excellent graphics, perfectly capturing the essence of the town of Springfield.Obviously not as funny as the TV show but still entertaining. As a Simpsons fan,it's great to wander around the streets of Springfield, visit Simpsons landmarks such as Moe's,the Kwik-E-Mart,the Nuclear Power Plant and come meet all your favourite Simpsons characters. Great fun,but may not appeal to non Simpsons fans.

What Simpsons Fans Have Been Looking For,
This review is from: The Simpsons: Virtual Springfield (CD-ROM)
This is a great game. Shortcuts and hidden objects pop up everywhere, and there's something new everytime you play it. However, if you're a new Simpsons fan and aren't familiar with the show, you should probably purchase something else, as many of the jokes are references that non-Simpsoniacs would not get. With that said, if you're a hardcore Simpsons nut, buy this now! If not, go with The Simpsons Cartoon Studio.

Not much to do,

All you really do in this game is look around Springfield and run into the occasional character. I finished the entire thing in less than 2 hours. Plus it is not very vivid or deep. You can only visit 2 classrooms in the Springfield elementary school, there is only 1 angle of Moe's bar etc. All you really do is LOOK at these locations that we are already familiar with and have the tiniest little bit of interaction with them. Plus the geography of Springfield in this game is not the same as the TV show. Which is also inconsistent in it's placing of many "sets". Moe's Bar has been in many different places for example. But, then again, in the garbageman episode, the town was moved to another site. Perhaps this is where it got all shuffled up.
There are a few little (and I mean little) games included. One of the main games is to simply find hidden baseball cards. A ploy to trick into clicking on the screen and revealing slight animation. In total there is just under 25 minutes worth of animation here and it is cool that the original cast provided the voices. But unless you are a die hard Simpsons fan then I would leave this game be. Definitely only for younger kids.

First of all: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNLESS YOU ARE A HARDCORESIMPSONS FAN. If you are not, you will be completely bored. This isn'tactually a game - it's a guide thru Springfield. The graphics are good and the sound is OK, but there is not real gameplay. I found myself bored with this game 3 days after I bought it. Buy at your own risk.

Not that cool. This is an old slow program that is kind of fun for a minute, but really is not that great. If you are a hardcore Simpsons fan then it is kind of cool for the Itchy and Scratchy cartoons and a few other assorted things, but really not that great.
It is worth checking out for a couple of bucks, but not much more than that.
