I travel a lot and with phones, tablets, computers all needing charging.

This one is multi-voltage so with the right adapter to plug it into the power outlet, you can use it anywhere.

Works great at home, and traveling in Europe, where outlets are scarce in hotel rooms.

I travel with a fair amount of gear for work that needs charging overnight. The only way to succeed is to have more outlets than the typical hotel room, and this power strip fits the bill, well made and works around the globe (110-250v) with no adapter required on the female plugs (they are universal design), and a single adapter required on the male end when US format is not available. This is also the most compact global power strip that I've been able to find, easily fits in the pocket I use for power stuff in my laptop backpack. Monster, Kensington and others that are 110v only are smaller, but of course are only useful in the US or the very few places with 110v power. Bring this along if you need more outlets in US or overseas and you won't have a problem.

I bought this after traveling overseas with a friend who had one. We stayed in rented apartments in France and Italy, and most had just one electrical outlet in the bathroom. Plugging this into that single outlet (with a plug adaptor) and turning it into a triple outlet was incredibly helpful.

I have a few comments on this power strip based on some of the other reviews I've read:

~ This is not an extension cord, and isn't meant to be. It's a universal/travel power strip with surge protection. Its purpose is to turn ONE electrical outlet into THREE, and to provide surge protection. Its small size and shorter cord length are deliberate - so it takes up less space when traveling. If you want a longer cord and have room for something bigger, you might consider this power strip instead VCT Universal Power Strip 6 Outlets - 100V to 220V/250V and 3750 Watts Surge Protector with Window Shutters and Circuit Breaker. Use Worldwide in Any Country - Model VCT USP600. If you need an extension cord, consider asking the local hotel/B&B/apartment owner to borrow one - I don't think I've ever seen a stand-alone dual-voltage extension cord.

~ This power strip comes with a 3-pin grounded USA plug because it's marketed for the US consumer, or at least for those who live in countries with 110V electricity. It's no different than dual-voltage travel hair dryers, curling irons, etc., sold in the US - they all come with USA plugs. The plug on this device is not universal, and there's nothing in the product description that says it is.

I bought this for use while traveling to charge multiple battery-powered items (mobile phone, tablet, camera batteries, etc.) at the same time. I used it in the UK and in Ireland along with a simple plug adapter (I did not need a voltage converter) and it did the job. It is the best travel power strip I have found so far. I cannot attest to whether the surge protector worked; all I can say is that the fuse never went off and all my equipment is still working. The only issue I've had is that one of the camera battery chargers, which has a polarized end, would not fit into any of the plugs for some reason. I have never had a problem with using the charger with many different wall sockets, and many different plugs (polarized, non-polarized, grounded) fit onto the strip. I ended up using another adapter for that particular charger.

What I like about this product:
- fairly light-weight and compact (the downside to being compact is that the cord is not very long)
- three plugs are enough for me (and I did occasionally use all three), and I do not need a USB charging port
- different shapes of plugs can fit onto the strip (i.e. if you had to unplug a lamp in your room to plug the strip into the wall, you can still use the lamp with the power strip, no matter what the local plug type/shape happens to be)
- suitable for use in countries using higher voltage than North America (not very many 110-250V power strips/surge protectors on the market, it seems)

The power strip and another small item I purchased came unpackaged but padded in a much bigger box than necessary.

I would like to like this product, but the one I received had the line/hot and neutral wires reversed. I tested this both with a multimeter and with a three-light receptacle tester. This might not matter if you were overseas using it on 220/240 volts or in the U.S. using it with a device with a non-polarized plug, but it could create a safety problem when used in the U.S. with a device with a two or three-prong polarized plug.

I wonder if I just received a defective item, whether they are all wired this way, or maybe the factory randomly wires some one way and some the other.

Also, it is possible to plug a two-prong polarized U.S. plug (one wide prong and one narrow prong) into the universal outlets on this outlet strip either way. Both vertical slots on this outlet strip are wide enough to take the wide prong. I have a collection of universal outlets purchased over several years in multiple countries, and some have slots wide enough for a two-prong polarized U.S. plug and some don't.

I don't expect U.S. standards to be followed when I am overseas, but because this outlet strip comes with a standard three-prong polarized and grounded U.S. plug, indicating that it is for use in the U.S., there are potential safety problems for it to be reverse wired and to accept two-prong U.S. polarized plugs but not enforce polarity. I checked carefully on the outlet strip itself and on the box and could not find the UL mark anywhere.

It appears from the photo that this Simran adapter has one slot that is wider than the other to enforce polarity on U.S. two-prong polarized plugs, so the manufacturer should be aware that wide and narrow prongs on U.S. plugs are related to polarity.
