5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than I Thought it Would Be
I played the first version of the Sims and liked it, but there were little things that always bothered me about it, like constantly having to make the sims go to the bathroom, and how it took them forever to walk around each other, how difficult it was to get them to talk to each other and date, etc., so I put off buying The Sims 2 until I got a new computer recently...

Well, I have to say I am really loving this game and have fallen in love with it all over again. I actually bought this title and all the other expansion packs at once (through Seasons) and installed them altogether. The experience is really great! The graphics are much better, I love the way you can manipulate the camera angles, and the sims are now a little smarter about what they do autonomously, so if I have a large family to play, I can concentrate on one sim for a while and not have to worry about what the others are doing.

The downtown area in the Nightlife section is really cool, and it takes less time to order and receive food now. I like the new date scoring system, and the new aspirations give a little sense of urgency to the game, which I enjoy. You now have specific goals to work toward with each sim, and there's incentive to reach the goals because you know your sim will eventually die. Oh, and did I mention that there's vampires now?

Love, love, love what they've done to this game!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A GREAT GAME!, February 7, 2008

I had the sims and it was pretty fun. But it got old quickly and soon there were no more things to do with it. There were several things that I didn't like: no marriage, no aging, bad zoomimg, bad camera navigation, and honestly no real reason to stay with your sims and help them through life. It was all too simple, and not like real life at all.

Then along comes the sims 2! Man, this is SO MUCH BETTER! And especially the deluxe edition, that comes with the nightlife expansion, so that you can go downtown and have a rockin' night out! Nightlife comes with tons of new clothes, and you can but cars to go downtown! Besides, with this expansion you can go on dates that have rating, from Horrible to Dream Date!

In the sims 2, sims have life aspirations (Pleasure, Family, Romance, Fortune, Knowledge, Popularity) and wants and fears. Wants and fears vary depending on the life aspiration. If you fulfill wants, sims will get more aspiration points and be happier. If their fears are realized, then they loose aspiration points and get sad. There's long-term and short-term relationships, and teenagers can go steady. There's a difference between crush and love. Adults and elders can marry. There's six ages that sims go through: baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, and elder.

I can go on and on. But it's better for you to get this game and experience the rest for yourself!

The Sims 2 is a brench mark for the best interactive game you could get. Other then being online. It a trend of life and does teach some value for teens how to take care of themselves. It very complex to learn and not easy to get to know. I suggested getting the guide book for it, once you get to know it a little. I had problems installing "Fun Stuff" packs and other download. But my daughter had no problems playing the base and Sims 2 Pets on the PC. If you want to get a sample before playing the PC version. Get a DS version of Sims 2 and Sims 2 Pets and New MySims coming out.

Bit of warning. better have a very large hard drive and above average video card. I have base game and four expansion packs and three "fun stuff" added n packs. Also the download could fill your hard drive up fast. Deluxe comes with a built in expansion "Night Life" so you have a pack to start with. Also patch your games and save the files folder regularly (located in your My Document Folder).

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Game Ever, December 14, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Sims 2 Deluxe (Sims 2 and Sims Nightlife Expansion) (DVD-ROM)
THe sims 2 is a brilliant game by Ea games. It shows multiple experiences of real life (having babies, getting married, death, and love)as well as unrealistic(getting abducted by aliens, having the grim reaper come after you die etc.) I believe it is a great game for anyone but not really for kids under 10. It does have some adult themes such as "woohoo" and bars(which the make as juice)I would recomend it to anyone who dosen't like games with a real objective. I would also suggest that you should not start on Pleasant View because it tends to screw up you're gaming experience. I would suggest strange town. It is a great learning experience for anyone who is a beginner. Sims is a wonderful game (but after you play sims 2 you just CANT go back to the regular sims ( I tried trust me it hurts) I would buy sims because it is worth you're $30 dollars (stuff packs are usually $20) Happy simming!

I love the Sims 2, but I lost one of my original disks. While I highly recommend this game (it is a blast), make sure that your computer is DVD compatible before ordering this DVD-Rom. They have it Cd-Rom, but buyer beware. Don't be like me, and get the copy in the mail only to find out you ordered the wrong thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great concept, April 24, 2008

Before I begin, I'd like to note that I'm just giving my impression of the game, and it is not necessarily going to be the same as yours. That said, the game itself is a very well designed simulation of what can be considered real life. You have to meet the needs of each of your sims, which can be considered either your personal avatars or pets (depending on how you look at it) in the world of The Sims 2. I found the level of customization to be impressive, especially with the numerous mod sites online, and the ease with which you can mod the game. The game play is not too different from the first game, but they did fix a lot of annoying bugs and complaints I had about it.
The reason that this game doesn't get 5 stars is that additional content costs $20 for each set you buy. The problem is that in the regular game, after a certain point in time you will have bought all of the best items and have completed your career track. After this happens, there isn't much left to do short of either trying to seduce every sim in the neighborhood or murder them depending on your inclination. The extra content packs, while adding content, add very little. Sure it's fun to be a vampire, but only for a couple of hours and then it just loses its charm. Other packs don't even feature anything as nifty as that, such as clothing packs, and should have just been free updates. I found the game only entertained me for a couple of weeks before it stopped being all that fun.
However, this is just me. Other people may become obsessed with building a perfectly controlled community with its own story lines and role play using the sims, others will think the game is the dumbest thing they've ever played (like my roommate). I suggest getting the demo and seeing how much you like it.

Great fun! Loads of options to choose from whether it's creating a Sim or creating a dream home. Just be sure you have plenty of time to play because hours will slip by like minutes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beware of SecuROM: Copy Protection for EA gaming Software, June 14, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Sims 2 Deluxe (Sims 2 and Sims Nightlife Expansion) (DVD-ROM)
I love TS2, but I do NOT love what EA has chosen as their copy protection. I purchased a new computer to be able to Sim in TS2 (I'd been Simming in TS1 for five years) unaware that Sony's malware, SecuROM, is the copy protection. My new pc will not burn to disc. Not all burning to disc is piracy, so what makes Sony Corporation think they can develop and market malicious software which disables emulation software/hardware and/or Anti-virus programs (other computer components are reported to have been affected also)? I'm extremely upset. I wanted all of the TS2 expansion packs, but now I won't be purchasing any more until EA finds a different method to copy protect their software without damaging their customer's computers.

Sony's malware SecuROM is invasive and damaging to computers. SecuROM attaches its components to the hard drive and eludes detection. It is also very difficult to remove all of the components. Avoid any product which implements SecuROM as its copy protection!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Rough Ride..., February 1, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Sims 2 Deluxe (Sims 2 and Sims Nightlife Expansion) (DVD-ROM)
I'm not exactly big on gaming, but when I do get bored, I might pick one up (in favor of my usual books or online anime, XD!). I chose the Sims 2 Double Deluxe because a lot of people on here complained about the third one, so I figured I'd start with this one and then move to that one. Well...looks like I'm moving to it a lot sooner than I'd wanted.

The game itself is probably fine. Hard to tell though when your computer's video card isn't compatible for it. I have an Inspiron 1525 laptop with Windows Vista. The chipset family it comes with isn't compatible with the game, but I didn't think to check that until a friend sent me a website to do so. And lo and behold, no, it's not. But I was desperate. I had already looked online at all the great stuff I wanted to add to my Sim so I could customize it to look like the Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts characters I love so much. Well, to help wrap this up a bit faster, it froze on me a lot. I tried being patient too, since I didn't know my first time playing it that it does take a little while. No, this stuff would just flat out freeze. I know you can manually replace it, but Dell tech support (and here might some misguiding information) said that the computer's video card cannot be replaced once sold. Not sure how true that is though...but screw it. I've already contacted the seller I got the game from to have it refunded.

Looking around at more reviews between both Sims 2 and Sims 3, I'm learning that it might be my custom content. But regardless of this, the video card is incompatible anyways, so it'll be buggy regardless.I'm going to see if maybe I can have some better luck with Sims 3. Really sucks since with it being so newly released (3), I'm probably not going to find all the stuff for my characters as I had with 2. *sigh* On that note, I do find it strange that the newer game works better for my computer than the older one, lol! Or maybe it's not so strange...xD. Anywho, it's a great game (what tidbit I did play), just make sure you fully meet the compatibility requirements before you get it.
