A thorough and well presented guide to using the software program XPPAUT to solve scientific problems. The basics of the program are taught by way of examples from the literature. A relatively slim book, it is a refreshing change of pace from other not-so-slim software books. Before purchasing, be aware of the agenda of the book: the focus is on numerical solutions. The details of the background theory are given very light treatment and most of the numerical methods employed by the program are skipped over. In spite of this, the book together with its online supplementary material (freely available on the web) is an excellent way to teach yourself XPPAUT.

This is an imprescindible tool for the biomath reasearches that expect to follow a rational pathway in the data math- maipulation in order to attain a better understanding of what is happening with our observations in the living systems.
