Managing complex, uncertain and quick projects,
By
This review is from: Simultaneous Management: Managing Projects in a Dynamic Environment (Hardcover)
Simultaneous Management is the only book I know offering practical advice for people making decisions in complex, uncertain and quick situations. But don't expect prescriptions about what you "should" do. Instead the book offers 9 principles drawn from observing and working with top managers and illustrates their application with elegant stories from real life. Theory and practice in one package. The book rests on research in construction project management and is valuable in different ways for the both experienced and novice managers in any industry. The experienced manager will discover new ways to understand their experience; what worked and why. The novice will keep coming back as the principles provide a comprehensive basis for thinking about and making decisions. I particularly recommend the principles and stories for coping with uncertainty

He then illustrates these principles with concise, interesting stories that will strike a chord with anyone who has managed complex projects. A critical insight into project leadership!

How do you make a Project Manager?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Simultaneous Management: Managing Projects in a Dynamic Environment (Hardcover)
I have now read two of Dr. Laufer's books as well as been fortunate to be a "story" author. Dr. Laufer's ability to gain the insight of Project Managers (PMs) in the private and government sector's by having them share their experiences via short, concise stories has allowed me to train many new and experienced PMs by availing them of experienced project managers learning's one at a time versus deluging them with reams of data. Dr. Laufer's style allows you to savour the project management experience one delicious bite at a time. Worthy reading for new and experienced project managers.

Leadership and Simultaneous Management,
By Brian Graham-Moore (U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Simultaneous Management: Managing Projects in a Dynamic Environment (Hardcover)
Effective leadership under simultaneous management requires flexibility and a manager open to all channels of information, i.e., open to influence. Dr. Laufer has delineated most of the characteristics needed for a manager to be a successful leader. The book is a contribution to forward thinking in this area.
