My new favorite author!!,
This review is from: Sin and Scandal in England (Mass Market Paperback)
The first book by Melody Thomas that I had the pleasure of reading was A Match Made in Scandal, the 3rd book in the Donnally series. It was unbelievably good. I promptly went out and bought every book she's ever written. This book Sin and Scandal in England was every bit as good as her previous ones. I have read more books by more authors too numerous to count, and this author is one of the best. She literally has a way of bringing the books to life. I don't even need to read an excerpt or the back cover of her books; I will buy them simply because her name is listed as the author.

interesting romantic intrigue,
This review is from: Sin and Scandal in England (Mass Market Paperback)
Bethany Munro is elated that the one man she loves Sir Ian Rockwell is at Whitley Court. On the other hand, Ian wants nothing to do with the woman who touches his heart as he has no time for a female in his life. However, he needs to know why she is talking to Lord Whitley, considered the dangerous chief of an anarchist group that includes an Italian arms manufacturer; Ian's mission is to go undercover to learn what these terrorists plot next.
Bethany is also on a quest. She seeks to learn what happened to her vanished former science teacher, Mrs., Langley, who was last seen at Whitley Court. As he falls in love while trying to keep Bethany safe and complete his assignment, her amateur sleuthing leaves both in danger from predators who will kill anyone in their way. SIN AND SCANDAL IN ENGLAND is an interesting romantic intrigue in which everyone seems to have a hidden agenda even the somewhat innocent heroine and no one trusts anyone if they are smart. The story line is fast-paced as Ian wants Bethany to leave so she will be safe, but she refuses as her undertaking comes first. Thus Ian who was falling in love with her when she was a naive seventeen year old risks his mission to keep his beloved from harm. Although the suspense turns over the top of Big Ben, fans will enjoy this gender battle inside of a pair of competing undercover inquiries, one by an amateur sleuth while the other by a professional. Sin and Scandal in England,
This review is from: Sin and Scandal in England (Mass Market Paperback)
Bethany Munro had not laid eyes on Ian Rockwell, the man she was secretly in love with, for three years. Seeing him again at a ball with a countess on his arm shocks her to the core, but she does her best to carry on as normal. This is harder than Bethany expects because when his eyes meet hers across the crowded ballroom, all of the feelings Bethany felt for him three years ago that she tried to forget and suppress, come back tenfold in a matter of seconds. Escaping the throng, Bethany tries to get away but to no avail when Ian follows her. What begins as a flirtation turns into so much more. When the smoke clears, the lovers find themselves facing espionage and danger, and life as they know it, no longer exists.
I love Melody Thomas and her historical novels. I know that every time I pick up one of her romances that I will be entertained, on the edge of my seat and treated to a fantastic love story. Sin and Scandal in England was that and so much more. Anyone who has ever yearned for another person can instantly relate to Bethany and her love for Ian. Ian, a dashing and bold hero, was so much more than a good-looking male lead. He was loyal and protective, and while his job kept him from Bethany for so long, his heart kept her memory warm. This book is written in the days of the Dukes, Duchesses and
Lords and Ladies-they are very romantic and can be very sensual but not in a disgusting way-the author describes the romance between the characters so precisely that you can picture them as if you were part of the book-very capitivating!

Overwritten, sluggish. The heroine seemed very immature and the hero, while nicely conflicted, just seemed anemic. My first and last read by this author.

I had a very hard time getting into this book, and I almost gave it up several times. I felt like the hero held back through the whole book until the end. The heroine had to keep coming to him. It did redeem itself in the end for me as everything came together, but it isn't a keeper.
