This review is from: Since the Accident (Audio CD)
This album is among the best of the Severed Head's catalouge, hopefully one day Severed Heads will become recogized for being one of the first and most interesting techno/experimental bands in Australia. Sadly Tom Ellard from Severed Heads recently called it a day, but the music lives on. This album, Since the Accident along with Come Visit the Big Bigot and Clifford Darling, Please don't live in the past, has been a huge influence on me and other other musicians i know, who make electronic music. The track, Dead Eyes Opened, was a minor club hit, but was actually included on the album as an afterthought. The rest of the album is quite avant-garde and disjointed, with a large emphasis on sampling. The final track, Brassiere in Rome, is a tape loop of the Pope speaking backwards as a choir sings in the background. If you are interested in low-budget, tape manipulation and electronic experimentation (think Throbbing Gristle and early Negativland.) deftinately give this album a listen. Hopefully it won't be out of stock for much longer. Incidently this album was included in the best 50 Australian albums by Rolling Stone Magazine. (but don't let that put you off.)
