Contrary to the popular belief,

This review is from: Sincerity Is an Easy Disguise in This Business (Audio CD)
Contrary to the popular belief, this album is actually light years ahead of Evergreen Terrace's previous full length efforts. After watching this band release a cover album (which really wasn't that bad for what it was), a rarities album, and a DVD you had to wonder/hope this band was going to put something out that was not only a step forward in their evolution but a worthwhile effort. And collectively, "Sincerity Is An Easy Disguise In This Business" is just that.
Evergreen Terrace doesn't stray to far from what they've usually done. At the sake of sounding cliched, they made the heavy parts sound heavier, and the melodic parts sound more melodic. Not many albums you can actually make that claim and actually have it fit. It's not the greatest album you're ever going to hear, but it might be the strongest material we'll hear from Evergreen Terrace whose sound appears to have come to fruition. The only real thing to complain about here is the length of the album, only clocking in at about 28 minutes and the few short tracks that aren't really given enough time to mesh. Tracks such as "The Smell Of Summer," "Brave Reality," and "Tonight Is The Night We Ride" maybe the strongest tracks the band has ever written and finds them dabbling in some tremendous melodies. The great thing about Evergreen Terrace is that, unlike so many "heavy" bands that use clean vocals, they don't go the emo/whiny/screamo route. They go for the rock n' roll, upbeat sound. The songs here are written in such a way that they will translate excellent live and are sure to cause many a singalongs at their shows. "New Friend Request,"(a jab at the infamous culture that is Myspace.com), maybe the most accessible song the band has written but still retains its heavyness. In fact, Evergreen Terrace is still in love with the breakdown, which isn't a bad thing at all because they pull it off so well and keep it interesting. Something more bands should take note of. There's a hidden acoustic bonus track that is really great with a southern influence and plays off of little acoustic lick that dabbles in a few of the tracks such as "Dogfight" and "I Say You He Dead" and is far better than any acoustic track some of these awful "radio rock" bands could ever write. In the end, it's not entirely perfect but it certainly one of the best releases Eulogy has put out in a long...long...long time. You can sit this one next to Unearth's "The Sting Of Conscience" and be satisfied. Simply put, you have to respect a band like Evergreen Terrace for continuing to being as hard working as they are. Oh yeah, don't buy into the sticker on the cover comparing this to the likes of Atreyu and Killswitch Engage. That's called marketing and it's usually never accurate.

One of the best of a now tired scene,

Evergreen terrace are truly good at what they do. While they may sound a lot like countless other bands in this now overbloated scene, just remember, Evergreen terrace were there long before any of the newer bands came out. Evergreen Terrace beautifully mix agression with melody and clean vocals, a lot like all the other bands out there now, but like i said, just remember, Evergreen was one of the first. Check them out if you want to know who helped jump start this scene

i love evergreen terrace and i hate to give them a bad review but this album is so unlike their previous material. I respect a band that tries to improve their music by musicianship but it sounds like their trying to fit in with the crowd and their no longer unique(generic sounding). it's a heavy album though the songs have no heart.
I would suggest buying ET's album "losing all hope is freedom" if your a new fan, it's the best hardcore cd I've heard this decade. peace

A good band, still improving,

This is my favorite ET album so far. It's heavier and sounds more focused than, say, "Burned Alive By Time". I also hear more metal influence in this than in their previous albums, which I like a lot. Their clean vocals are great, and the screamed vocals are top quality. I've only listened to it once through, so I can't say how it'll hold up to repeated listening, but I'm digging it so far. I'd definitely recommend it for fans of Atreyu or From Autumn To Ashes.

I am a huge fan of ET they are a great band with great sound. If you are a fan of there old stuff you will love this record, Its one of those great records where you listen the second time, it gets better, the third, even better! These guys need alot more respect, maybe need to fire their manager and get someone that will promote them the right way!

This is their most recent album (there are rumors of them writing another one). Andrew is the screamer and Craig...(not andrew as opposed to the comment below me)...is the softer singer, he sings "the pretty stuff". This release makes me continue to love ET with all my heart. Some will argue that Burned Alive By Time is much better than this one...but i say you pick up both copies and see for yourself. This band has such
talent and it's an easy listen for hardcore kids.

Original, Catchy & A Bit Risky!,
By
This review is from: Sincerity Is an Easy Disguise in This Business (Audio CD)
Evergreen Terrace took a huge risk releasing this album but I feel that the risk paid off. After stumbling on their last album unable to write a creative release they released an all cover song album entitled "Writers Block." Having only 2 original albums Evergreen Terrace had to give their fans something good and they did it with "Sincerity Is An Easy Discguise In This Business." In a time where hardcore bands are putting out the same album over and over again Evergreen Terrace did something original. They added melodic vocals to brutal old fashion hardcore and created something new. The album features tons of catchy songs that you can still dance too. This is a great album and I hope they top it on their next release.

Break It Down,
By
This review is from: Sincerity Is an Easy Disguise in This Business (Audio CD)
I had seen Evergreen Terrace live and the performance they put on definetly stole the show so i decided to pick up Burned Alive By Time. I think this album easily exceeds that one.
The first thing you'll probably notice is that the recording on it is very much improved, which really lets the sound shine. The heavy parts will beat your eardrums to death (in a good way of course) and the melodic parts are really great too. Standout tracks include Dogfight, I Can See My House From Here, and The Smell Of Summer. The only bad thing is that its only about 27 minutes long, which just leaves you wanting more. All you have to do is pop it right back in, its that good. This cd is a must have!

I'm no expert on emo/metal/hardcore/screamo/all other genres of music. But I like this CD! I didn't regret buying it. It's a very rocking hard & heavy and there's a lot of melodic parts which you can sing along to. :D But some of the songs to sound alike at first.
But this whole CD is really tight & sounds great! |
