Not the best book on Sinead O'Connor,
This review is from: Sinead: Her Life and Music (Paperback)
The author's note says it all: "I do not know what grade Sinead O'Connor got in math class when she was eleven years old; I do not care whether she breast-fed her son. These sorts of intrusive factoids, masquerading as revelations, that add up to biographies of pop stars are in fact none of our business." In other words, Jimmy Gutterman didn't get an interview with Sinead O'Connor for this book, and he didn't even get an interview with anyone who knows Sinead well for this book. What he did do was rely heavily on previously published interviews with Sinead. Nothing in this book will surprise any fan. I would give it 2 stars, but there are some lovely photos. The one of Sinead in her kiss-o-gram girl uniform is my favorite. Hence the 3 star rating. If you are going to bother searching for out-of-print books on Sinead, there is a better book to look for. I highly recommend finding "Sinead O'Connor: So Different" by Dermott Hayes. Now that is an excellent book on Sinead, one a true fan will enjoy.

The life & music of Sinead. (& a load of other people),
By Chimp (Uk) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sinead: Her Life and Music (Paperback)
This is a truley awful book. Jimmy Guterman is a great reviewer when he's written for 100's of magazines in the past, but Im afraid he's NOT a very good author. He keeps diverting from the tracks, and not just by a little few yards. Im talking miles. Pages and pages where Sinead isnt mentioned at all. When he mentions someone who Sinead worked with or even just met one day, he goes on and on for the next 4 pages about THEIR work and this leads in turn to people that THEY worked with!!! He also finds it very hard to belive that there are those of us who PREFER 'The Lion & the Cobra' to 'I Do Not Want What I Havent Got'. Just to praise the 2nd album, he spends half the book slagging the debut album off! Its an annoying read, and I only made it from one cover to the other because its about Sinead . . . . .well SOME of its about Sinead.
