Oh, the tension!,
By Viv (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sinful Between the Sheets (Carlisle Family, Book 2) (Paperback)
Wow! I admit I have been waiting for Fayne Carlisle's book since I finished "Wicked Under The Covers" and Barbara Pierce did not let me down. I enjoyed this book even more than its predecessor.
Fayne Carlisle, the newly titled Duke of Solitea, is set on revenge. His mark: his father's presumed mistress, Lady Kilby Fitchwolf. His purposes become blurred as he realizes he has fallen for the very woman he believes ruined his family. Lady Kilby has one mission: escaping her lecherous brother and uncovering secrets from her past which I will not spoil for you. What follows is an extremely steamy novel that oozes sensual tension with hot love scenes to match. The story also has: hero-jealousy and is told from both the hero and heroine's pov so the reader knows what each is thinking. The plot does border on bodice-ripper towards the middle, however, it did not deter me one iota. Barbara Pierce is a talented author that writes intelligent romance and not your average fluff. "SBTS" us a definite keeper.

Exceptional!,

The storyline was exceptional, and the characters were colorful and well written. I was impressed by the depth of the final twists & turns in the book, which left me on baited breath. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for more than just a little romance. This story has it all: scorching passion, a good dose of mystery, despicable villains, and a glorious happily-ever-after. The only disappointing thing about this book is that it had to end.

This is the first book that I've read by this author. I enjoyed the book, Mrs. Pierce presented a book with an interesting plot and the final twist is one of the best that I've read. I love the way that the main characters relate to each other. and the supporting characters were well developed.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise!!,

With so many super-sexy "romance" books and the mostly perverse twists and turns of the "urban fantasy/paranormal" style of novel, it was great to get back to a vibrant and interesting LOVE story. The sensuality was just racy enough to make one smile and involved people who cared about each other. The plot was perfectly executed reflecting the tricky role that women faced in regards to their own rights during the 19th century, how difficult it would be to over-rule a related male who didn't have their best interests at heart, PLUS the consequences and everyday-ness of duels and their bloody aftermath. Just a great, compelling read worth a plus on your keeper stack.

fantastic Regency amateur sleuth romantic suspense,
This review is from: Sinful Between the Sheets (Carlisle Family, Book 2) (Paperback)
In 1809 in London when the Duke of Solitea dies in a young woman's bedchamber, his heir Fayne Carlisle mourns the loss of his sire and his own womanizing hedonistic freedom as now he has responsibilities. However, first Fayne needs to know whether the legendary Solitea Curse struck or something more mundane like the lady poisoning his father. He plans to find out starting with meeting Lady Kilby Fitchwolf.
Still in mourning with the shocking deaths of her parents in a yachting accident almost two years ago and only in London at the insistence of a family friend not wanting her left alone any longer with her violent half-brother Archer, Kilby swears she is innocent though she also recognizes the compromised situation the late Duke left her in when he died in her chamber. Fayne wants her and assumes she is an experienced woman, but finds strange mixed signals of desire and naïve innocence from her. As she tries to learn the truth re the death of her parents and gain custody of her still hurting preadolescent sister "Gypsy" from Archer and Fayne likewise wants to know what happened to his father, they fall in love, but a deadly "matchmaker" lurks in the background ready to kill to keep them to keep their identity secret. SINFUL BETWEEN THE SHEETS, the sequel to the charming WICKED UNDER THE COVERS (the tale of Fayne's sister), is a fantastic Regency amateur sleuth romantic suspense. The changing relationship between the lead couple and three strong mysteries (need to read the novel to learn the third mystery) make for a superb historical that will elate the audience. Sub-genre fans who have no read Barbara Pierce is missing out on one of the best Regency authors today. Harriet Klausner

Neither lead was particularly endearing. The very silly heroine continually put herself in harm's way. The hero, Fayne, had nothing to recommend him. True, he was a duke, but other than "man-whore" he had no skills, interests nor attributes.
I also did not like the fact that the heroine, Kilby, was placed in some needlessly explicit sexual situations with men who were not the hero. I also found it odd that the writer thought moments after an attempted rape by another man was the prime time for the "hero" to make his move and divest the heroine of her virginity. What a sensitive devil. Sex between the leads came too early in the book/relationship and became repetitive. Consequently there is very little sexual tension or anticipation in this book. And on a completely superficial note: What was up with the character names? Fayne, Fyre, Kilby, Grennil, Pridwyn. Distracting and very annoying.

WHAT IS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT THIS BOOK???,

This review is from: Sinful Between the Sheets (Carlisle Family, Book 2) (Paperback)
I missed SINFUL BETWEEN THE SHEETS as I didn't know that they were related, so I read WICKED UNDER THE COVERS first. I persevered with the book and liked the writing style of Ms. Pierce. However there were character blemishes and flaws in the storyline that didn't allow me to fall wildly in love with this novel. I realize that there are some rave reviews here - so I will keep mine short and to the point. The narrative is good, though at times the dialogue and situations were overly accentuated and the story rambled in some areas. I guess, that true to the era and debauched behavior of the times, the hero Fayne and his cohort friends behave as the times call for it. Still their behavior seemed rather appalling and unfeeling. I agree with another reviewer that Fayne's behavior and confrontational nature is rather appalling as well as his lack of regard for others. I thought that Kilby's - (Lady Fitchwolf) demeanor to be rather childish, spoiled and her appreciation of the hero's sexual advances rather far fetched, considering her background. Though the sexual scenes are scorchers for sure and the book had some good twits and turns as to who was being added to the villainous plot (one is Kilby's depraved and sick brother), I cant say that this was one of my favorite reads!

unlikeable hero & heroine, but good dialogue,

The writing was good, but I didn't like the hero and heroine. Their way of life was probably too true of Ladies and Gentlemen of that time. Fayne, the hero, did not work and did not appear to have any ambition. He spends all of his time hanging out with 3 other men who are also good looking and of similar background, and dueling. They were known as rogues who sleep around, gamble, and spend money buying horses. NONE of them appear to have a real job. They sound like guys that Paris Hilton would hang out with. Their only good quality is that they're loyal friends.
Kilby is rather stupid. Since she was brought up as a lady, you would think she realizes it's not a good idea for a virginal young lady to be alone with any gentleman. But, in her pursuit to dig up the past about her mother, she tries to have private conversations with several old gentlemen discreetly. Both of these old guys sexually harassed her; one had a heart attack (Fayne's Father, no less); and the other one was beaten up by Fayne. The only thing they had going for each other was pure physical attraction. The bit near the end about Fayne's Mother's collecting lovers in pairs was just plain weird. I don't see how anyone could keep doing that. Don't people meet lovers by chance? Does she not bother when there's just one person, but go for them only when she meets them 2 at a time?? Must be nice to have so many good looking men jaunting around in pairs looking to share a woman... well, it is fiction.

Oh, the Queen of Sexual Tension!!!,

Author Pierce had fast paced action, a touch of suspense and a hot romance that spells one delightful read. I loved her unusual characters, her wow sexual tension. This is a page turner from the start. I was sucked into this. I made the mistake of buying the second one - I thought - but then it was so stand alone, I can go back and pick up the other one and just enjoy without worrying about order. The next is the series is on pre-order.

Sinful Between The Sheets B Pierce # 2 Carlisle Series. This is only the 2nd book I read from Pierce and I am hooked. The 2nd story is better than the first. I loved the characters Kilby and Fayne. The story line it kept me going and the sex was up there. I will be reading the next in the series and there is one after that not out yet.
