Love Conquers All,
By
This review is from: Sinful (Paperback)
In Sinful, Victor McGlothin introduces us to cousins, Chandelle and Dior. The story opens with Chandelle bailing Dior out of another mess which appears to be the pattern throughout the story. Chandelle and Dior grew up relying on each other throughout their lives and even though Chandelle is now married to Marvin, the cycle does not end. Marvin, a devoted husband to the love of his life, accepts that Dior will always be the third wheel in order to appease his wife, even though he realizes the ramifications of having Dior around.
A hard-working man, Marvin would do anything to give Chandelle anything she desires, even the house that he knows they cannot afford. When Dior's antics almost lead to the end of Marvin and Chandelle's marriage, the relationship between the two women is tested. Dior's jealousy of the life her cousin has attained eats her alive and it almost makes the reader wonder just how far she is willing to go, and if she really has any feelings for her cousin at all. However, during this trial, Marvin's life evolves for the better. Victor McGlothin does a wonderful job of bringing the characters home to me. I loved Dooney, Dior's twin brother. His dialogue had me laughing out loud ("Man, you cooler than the other side of the pillow"). He always had a quip that was timely and realistic. I also liked how Victor justified the fact that Dooney did not curse to make it realistic - he was trying to stop. If you enjoy a good storyline with realistic characters and a timely message about trust and perseverance, then this is your read. Reviewed by Lena Willis APOOO BookClub

This was a good book. At times I wanted to slap the main character for being so stupid, but overall I would recommend this book!

A Tangled Web,

Review by Tavares S. Carney - "the Christian Page Turner"
From beginning to end, the author of Sinful, arouses reader anticipation in yearning to know what each character will do next. First there's trouble-making and bitten-by-the-jealous bug, cousin Dior, who resents the fact that her cousin Chandelle has everything she wishes she could have and more, legitimately. This includes a husband, a big house and a nice car. Readers are acquainted with Dior's web of deception that leads to the demise of her cousin's marriage to a humble, loving husband. After a terrible misunderstanding that lands Marvin, Chandelle's husband, in jail, everything starts to unravel in their lives. Both Chandelle and Marvin, although suffering through the pain of thoughts and feelings of ungratefulness, bitterness, jealousy, greed, infidelity and more, never lose their love for each other and with God's influence, are led back into each others arms. This book is a very good read and is proof positive that no matter what, there is always hope for a mended relationship when God is in the picture.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book! Put your seatbelts on and enjoy the ride, you'll need it with Dior at the wheel. The character Dior was off the charts in the menipulation department. Talking about someone who can lie with a straight face!....she takes the first prize. Like Momma-nem use to say, "whatever goes on in the dark, will surely come to the light", Dior's name should be in lights on Broadway! If you like a little drama, it's all inside of "SINFUL". I truly recommend it. Great job Victor! Looking forward to the sequel.

This girl is so ruthless, it just doesn't make any sense. She is ridiculously sinful, very low down. Chapter after chapter you wonder what she is up to next.

This was the first book I have read by Victor McGlothin but it will not be the last, I absolutely enjoyed this book. The characters were so real and believable and he brilliantly made you be angry and feel sorry for the characters all at the same time. I loved how he weaved the story to show the ups and downs of marriages---and how things can turn wrong fast if not handled the right way. Excellent book and I would recommend this book to anyone...such a page turner!

I got some stuff to express on this book; If ever was a book to say "don't do this" then this book is such a book. For one thing, Chandelle was cool, but she jumped the gun one dang time too many; When you also let your "loosy goosy" cousin who you wouldn't trust out amok, but then you put her around your husband??? uhh uhh, she was wrong for that. You don't put someone like that in your home destroying your house. I liked Dooney because brother was tight, but Chanelle ain't nothing but a phony, simple, silly, overindulgent wench who I don't care for one bit. And Dior either. But having read Sinful Too, I can't help but feel she got her comeuppance down the road sadly.

I've read other books by this author, and his books seem to end on a weird note. This was no exception. Maybe it was a set up for Sinful Too. After all the drama, I was left hanging. Was Dior pregnant or not? I didn't get it. I also read Sinful Too because I wanted to know what happened. However, Chandell and Marvin weren't even mentioned. It was all about Dior. And that book ends weirdly, too.

Dior is always involved in a constant collision with catastrophe, causing trouble wherever she goes. Her issues are so severe, she's been sent to an asylum. While she claims that it was all a part of her master plan, some question if she shouldn't be locked away permanently. Scheming all over the place, Dior has set a plan in motion to destroy Chandelle, her cousin's, marriage. Hoping to be in the position to provide Marvin, Chandelle's loyal and loving husband, with the consolation he'll need. However, before she can completely get the mayhem flowing, she finds herself trapped in someone else's maze and there just may be someone else admiring Marvin from afar. Dooney, Dior's fraternal twin, knows that his sister is just too sinful, and tries to use his words of wisdom to guide his cousin back to her husband before things get too out of hand. Will Chandelle be able to salvage her marriage or has too much discontentment been sprinkled?
SINFUL is the very first of book I've read by Victor McGlothin. Whether misunderstood or misdiagnosed, the Wicker family provides readers with plenty! Chaos, obscurity and entanglements keep this story going. I was a little perturbed at the foolishness and materialistic ways of Chandelle, but I liked that she grew throughout the story. I can't begin to imagine what they can possibly have awaiting us in SINFUL TOO. |
