Oldies not as good as remembered,

This review is from: Sing-Along Songs - The Bare Necessities (DVD)
My daughter loves the Circle of Life sing along video so I thought this one would be great as well. This video contains more of the older Disney songs and I didn't realize until now how many stereotypes there were. Some songs are great (Bare Necessities and I Wanna Be Like You), others just so-so and some just unwatchable. Old Yeller fighting a black bear for 3/4 of the song was more than my 2-year old wanted to see. She much prefers to keep watching Disney's other video: Circle of Life.
Song List: "The Bare Necessities" (The Jungle Book), "You (Are a Human Animal)" ("The Mickey Mouse Club"), "Cinderella Work Song" (Cinderella), "Old Yeller" (Old Yeller), "Figaro and Cleo" ("Figaro and Cleo"), "Winnie the Pooh" (Winnie the Pooh Featurettes), "I Wanna Be Like You" (The Jungle Book), "Look Out for Mr. Stork" (Dumbo), "Ev'rybody Wants To Be a Cat" (The Aristocats), "The Ugly Bug Ball" (Summer Magic), "The Bare Necessities" Reprise (The Jungle Book)

With this dvd being about 25-30 minutes, it keeps my daughter totaly engrossed whenever i need to keep her occupied long enough to get something done (important phone call, changing sheets, etc.). She literally stays fixated on the screen! Jimminy Cricket is the host (it's nice to see some old characters in the mix) and all of the songs are such a delight and so cute. Well worth the money, and this is a good price, compared to what i have seen it selling for in stores.

My husband and his siblings wore out two of these DVD's as children, and still know the entire songs of Cinderelli and Ugly Bug Ball. Now, my daughter is 4 and since we got it two weeks ago, it's already her favorite. Well worth buying, and buying again, if need be. Talk about a classic! I didn't experience this as a child, but even in my old age (I'm twenty something) this is enjoyable for me to watch, and who doesn't want their kid to have movies that won't drive 'em nuts?

the sing along songs are the best. all kids should have a few, its a door to music they will possess forever. if my kid is watching the same dvd over and over again, id rather it be songs from old disney classics then some of the stuff we're put through these days.. they are entertained by it from a young age, so being exposed to the words on the bottom of the screen is a great way to help get them interested in reading.

Wonderful DVD! Our 2-month-old daughter already loves it! And the English lyrics are just fine (we know how to work the audio button on our DVD remote). The only knock is it's a little short for the price. But, that's Disney.

Disney's Sing Along Songs are great for toddlers. They have songs from popular Disney movies. Each song is just long enough to keep their attention without being too long. When they get old enough to read, they can read the words on the screen while singing along. My kids loved these when they were little and here I find almost 20 years later buying them for my grandchild..

My 3 daughters enjoyed this video many moons ago and now my granddaughter is singing and dancing along! I never grew tired of these adorable songs and lovely old videos. No generation gap here! Original Disney is timeless.

This one is mildly entertaining for my daughter. I don't know if she is not old enough to enjoy it, she's two and would prefer watching something else. The movie came in a good amount of shipping time though.

This is my favorite Disney Sing-Along DVD so far (I own 4). I love most of the songs on here. There were only a few "fillers" from lesser-known sequels. My daughter loves "Everybody wants to be a cat" from the Aristocats. She's only 9 months, so she must like all the different colors.
I am a fan of this DVD because it's pretty classic. You have Jimeney Cricket as the narrator and the clips look like "video" quality. I don't mind the "video" quality since t reminds me of what I grew up with. Great DVD. |
