Classic Sesame Street, June 28, 2002
What a pleasant surprise to discover this CD! There are dozens of CD compilations of "Sesame Street" music, but what makes this one special is that it is a straight reissue of "The Muppet Alphabet Album," originally released by Columbia Records in 1971. "Sesame Street" was only two years old then, and these songs (many composed by the great Joe Raposo, Jeff Moss and crew) capture the freshness of those early shows (a selection of which can still be seen on Noggin's "Sesame Street Unpaved"). If you grew up with the show, you will remember these songs ("C Is For Cookie," "Dee, Dee, Dee," "The National Association Of 'W' Lovers" and many more) and there are appearances by Herbert Birdsfoot, Harvey Kneeslapper, Sherlock Hemlock, and Professor Hastings (all memorable early 1970s characters which have been essentially "retired" for years) as well as the great Cookie Monster, Oscar, Big Bird, Herry, Grover, Prairie Dawn, Ernie, Bert and friends (the shifty Salesman even sings a song). There is one "new" track that leads off the disc (Elmo's remake of Big Bird's "ABC-DEF-GHI-JKL-MNOP-QR-STU-WXYZ"), but that's what a skip button is for. And oh, yeah, kids will like this too.

A Fun Way to Learn the Alphabet, January 31, 2000
This collection of classic Sesame Street songs is a wonderful introduction for older infants and toddlers to become familiar with the alphabet. The songs are catchy, very upbeat and enable a child to have fun while learning at the same time. The songs go in sequence, highlighting each letter of the alphabet individually. The entire cast of Sesame Street puppets are on this album, icluding Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar, Bert & Ernie, and Grover, which allows for great variety and interpretation. While it may have to grow on parents, this is definitely a selection your child and you can enjoy together.

Absolutely Wonderful, July 24, 2000
Obviously these songs are great because they reinforce children's identification with the letters of the alphabet. But what's really amazing is how clever most of the songs are--not to mention catchy. Very well done! One of the few child's albums that adults won't find irritating after the tenth time through.
