2.0 out of 5 stars A few good songs, but not enough
The platinum CD is a much better purchase. There are only a few good songs on this CD, and not some of the better ones that are alaphet related on Sesame Steet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Sesame Street, June 28, 2002

What a pleasant surprise to discover this CD! There are dozens of CD compilations of "Sesame Street" music, but what makes this one special is that it is a straight reissue of "The Muppet Alphabet Album," originally released by Columbia Records in 1971. "Sesame Street" was only two years old then, and these songs (many composed by the great Joe Raposo, Jeff Moss and crew) capture the freshness of those early shows (a selection of which can still be seen on Noggin's "Sesame Street Unpaved"). If you grew up with the show, you will remember these songs ("C Is For Cookie," "Dee, Dee, Dee," "The National Association Of 'W' Lovers" and many more) and there are appearances by Herbert Birdsfoot, Harvey Kneeslapper, Sherlock Hemlock, and Professor Hastings (all memorable early 1970s characters which have been essentially "retired" for years) as well as the great Cookie Monster, Oscar, Big Bird, Herry, Grover, Prairie Dawn, Ernie, Bert and friends (the shifty Salesman even sings a song). There is one "new" track that leads off the disc (Elmo's remake of Big Bird's "ABC-DEF-GHI-JKL-MNOP-QR-STU-WXYZ"), but that's what a skip button is for. And oh, yeah, kids will like this too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Way to Learn the Alphabet, January 31, 2000
By
Heather (London, England) - See all my reviews
This collection of classic Sesame Street songs is a wonderful introduction for older infants and toddlers to become familiar with the alphabet. The songs are catchy, very upbeat and enable a child to have fun while learning at the same time. The songs go in sequence, highlighting each letter of the alphabet individually. The entire cast of Sesame Street puppets are on this album, icluding Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar, Bert & Ernie, and Grover, which allows for great variety and interpretation. While it may have to grow on parents, this is definitely a selection your child and you can enjoy together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful, July 24, 2000
Obviously these songs are great because they reinforce children's identification with the letters of the alphabet. But what's really amazing is how clever most of the songs are--not to mention catchy. Very well done! One of the few child's albums that adults won't find irritating after the tenth time through.

My three-year old can't get enough of this CD! It contains a song for each letter of the alphabet; each song highlights words that begin with the given letter. Although my son was able to recognize letters early on, this CD puts letters, letter sounds, and the concept of words together.

The songs relay that certain letters have multiple sounds (soft g and hard g). Many are upbeat but some are more low-key; many are quite funny too! I recommend this CD highly for pre-school age children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic CD, January 13, 2003
By A Customer
I had this same collection of songs back when I was a child. It was an album that had a chalkboard you could practice writing your alphabet on. After I had kids, I called all my siblings trying to locate the old album. When I could not find it, I was thrilled to see this release on CD. My children are now enjoying it as much as I did as a child. Several years ago I played one of the songs during a short presentation at my son's kindergarten class. The teacher loved it and had me order a copy for her. There are many songs that just stick with you forever. We have a few other Sesame Street CD's but none even come close to matching this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sing the Alphabet, February 26, 2003
This is a cute cd for your child to listen to while learning the alphabet... My son enjoys hearing the characters sing their songs. The only thing missing was the actual ABC song.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son and I love it, July 28, 2005
This review is from: Sing the Alphabet (Audio CD)
I bought this CD for my son's 2nd birthday. He likes it (especially Elmo) and I like it. There is a song or story for each letter, they are all different, and they are all fun. I'm not tired of hearing this yet. The tunes are catchy, but I guess they could drive you nuts when they are stuck in your head.

I've been disapointed by many so called "educating and entertaining" CDs and DVDs that don't teach anything. I love that he's entertained, and getting the concept of letters at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been looking all over for these songs!!, July 11, 2004
By A Customer
My brother had these songs on 45's when he was maybe 3 years old (late 70s) and I can remember singing along with many of these songs. Definitely a great find!! I hope my kids will enjoy these as much as I did as a child.

I purchased this CD for the daily car trips around town when my son is with me. Most every track has characters talking, giving intros to the letters and such. All very cute, very Seasame Street - and 100% a stroll down memory lane. I'm not sure if it's all in mono, but most of the songs are from way way back - probably 70's and 80's. I get a kick out of it because it's nostalgic; and my son enjoys it because he gets to sing along and learn the alphabet.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a kick!, February 20, 2003
By
I had this as a record in the 80's for my kids. At Chirstmas I surprised two of them with the CD's for their own kids. They were excited to hear it again. My other two kids, also adults now, were equally excited to hear it again. They wanted to listen to the whole thing again, laughing over the L song and many other faovorites from their own preschool days. I appreciated that it hit every letter of the alphabet with its own song and even intorduces the idea of two 'g' sounds (G.. Grover, G... George). Kids learn phonics without even being aware of it.
