The headline in the newspaper screamed at Jason. The photo of Marian haunted him, her sad eyes filling his heart with dread. For Marian Feldon is Jason's mother. And on his eighteenth birthday she will die.

Marian Feldon will be executed for the murder of her lover. Everyone, even her lawyer, is convinced of her guilt -- except for Jason. He knows his mother could never murder anyone. But certain doom is only a few days away. And there is no one to turn to, nowhere to go.

Then, at the bedside of a dying stranger, Jason learns something that could free his mother...something that sends him down a nightmarish trail of double-crossing, deceit, and danger. But Jason is desperate, and he'll risk anything to save his mother's life. Even death.

From School Library Journal

Grade 7-12-- Jason Feldon's mother is scheduled to be executed for murder in one week, on his 18th birthday. But is she really a murderer? Jason has lived with that question since he was 10 years old, when she was charged with the murder of her longtime boyfriend. Since the conviction, Jason has moved from Florida to New York City to live with his mother's only sister. Then comes a call from the chief detective on his mother's case, and from this point on, Jason's life takes a dramatic turn. Bennett's style is sure to appeal to reluctant readers. The rapid-fire dialogue and short descriptive passages keep the plot moving quickly to its conclusion, and he maintains the suspense and intrigue at an intense level throughout the book. The only weaknesses in the plot are that the true identity of the killer is alluded to too early in the story, and the abrupt ending makes the resolution somewhat anticlimactic. --Kenneth E. 4.0 out of 5 stars Justin McDowell--Sing Me a Death Song, October 16, 2002
This review is from: Sing Me a Death Song (Mass Market Paperback)
"Sing Me a Death Song" was a quote from the book by Jason Feldon's mother, Marian Feldon, who is on trial for murder. Ironically it is also the title for the book. Jay Bennett was the author who also wrote: The Dark Corridor, The Haunted One, and etc...
The book starts off introducing Jason Feldon dreaming about seeing his mother, Marian Feldon, who is a convicted murderer and is in prison and is also about to be executed in five days, which is in a small town in Florida. While Jason Feldon is living in New York with his Aunt Lydia and is about to turn 18 years old on his mother's execution date. Jason Feldon comes to find out that maybe his mother wasn't the killer, she was frammed.
This information comes from a Detective, Frank Morgan, who is on his death bed because of a heart attack and seeks forgiveness. Jason then goes to Florida with Detective Morgan's information and gets some documents that were hidden in his house that supposably has the info. that Marian Feldon is innocent. On the way back to New York to give the documents back to Mr. Morgan Jason was kid-napped.
In this book the author, Jay Bennett, used some literary elements really well. The characters were well explained, and there was protagonists and antagonists. The plot was explained in great detail. All of the sequence of events was easy to understand. The mood was exellent too. It was dark, mysterious, rainy, and was like there was death around every corner.
My personal opinion is that I really liked this book. I liked the horror, the suspence, and the mystery of the book. It also had death, crime, lying, love, and also desire. It was a good story but the climax was a little dull. I really like all horror, and VAMPIRE books anyway.

I enjoyed every bit of this book. I strongly recomend this book because it is all about suspense. This book keeps you on the tips of your toes until the very end. I couldn't put the book down and when I did it was pretty hard. So if you like suspense and mystery Sing Me a Death Song is just the book for you.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sing Me a Death Song (Mass Market Paperback)
In elementary, I was a 3-year champ for this school-wide reading program we had so I know books and which ones are good. I first read this book at my school library one day and I've loved it and it's been my favorite since. It's a haunting tale of love, suspense and willpower which the main character, Jason, had alot of. It takes place in many different scenes and is a fast-paced thrilling page-turner which I would highly recommend for kids aged 10+.
