A little disappointment,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sing Or Die (Audio CD)
Believe me, I have been a great fan of DCT, but this one was a little bit of a disappointment. I've also heard the Japanese version and all the songs were great, in Japanese. It's just that in this English version, it sounds too foreign and unnatural, perhaps because translating every single word does not always work and sounds too awkward. It doesn't seem to blend into other American pops.

I neither speak nor read Japanese,

DCT's songs are a lot of fun, cross several styles, and after about 23+ listenings Sing or Die hasn't grown old for me. I tumbled onto Dreams Come True though the magic of the Internet, noodling around music sites. I discovered them on the videotape of Swan Princess movie, where they sing "Eternity" on a musicvideo at the end. It shows off singer Miwa, but with a hollywood production orchestra, not their musical sensibility. This is DCT's 9th album, and only one in English. After searching in New York, I found it in Chicago in Virgin's "pop" section. Lead singer Miwa's name means Beauty * Harmony. I love her voice's timbre. Her style is just like the photos: beautiful and optimistic. Her english accent is American, which I wonder at given the years in Tokyo and London. I wonder how true to the original Japanese the translations are. There are a few cliche phrases, but that's a quibble because all else is so good. Buy this and enjoy it. Buy two.

A breath of fresh air!,

I stumbled upon this group after meeting a forign exchange student from Japan. I could not believe my ears. A group that is optimestic and is very popular(in Japan anyway). This isn't a group to end all groups, but you will find it a refreshing change from all of that noise pollution that people consider "good music" these days.

English Vs. Japanese,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sing Or Die (Audio CD)
I have heard both versions of this Cd and my opinion is that the English definately merits at least some attention. Although the translations are awkward at times, it does not detract from the overall mood of the cd. The sentiment and signifigence of the lyrics make the CD a great buy for those fans who can't understnad the Japanese. On it's own merit though the music is great and there I know of no Jananese band quite at origional as DCT. Definately worth trying.

I started listening to DCT since like 12 years ago - I love the group, esp. Miwa's voice. I was a bit disappointed though, to find that all songs on this CD were sung in English... she sounds WAY better in her native tongue.

The japanese pop supergroup hoped to break into the Western countries with the release of this CD in english unfortunately, the didnt impress the audiences as hoped, however this album impresses me, and well it has me interested in JPOP (japanese pop) as a whole. The music contained is much better than the pop music of the past 20 years over here. They use a variety of instruments and the arrangement is different in every song and the lyrics are much better than anything Ive heard in American pop music today. As the spotlight reviewer stated It's music that defies nationality. The lead singer Miwa does a fantastic job of pronouncing and singing all english words properly, not easy for the japenese and vice/versa trust me.

Not The Best They've Done, But Still Doggone Good,

If you're into DCT, this album is a good addition to your collection. If you aren't, and don't understand Japanese, this all-English CD is a great introduction to this wonderfully talented group - especially Miwa Yoshida, the lead singer and songwriter. The girl's a free spirit, to be sure, and will have you craving more of her with each song. Check it out! Unfortunately, the other CDs DCT has produced are difficult to find outside of Japan - but try; they're definitely worth it. Their mega-hit CD, The Monster, is due out in the "international" version this fall - meaning in English. WAY cool stuff!

AHHHHH. *let's not get crazy here* First off, this........is..awsome.The songs are catchy and nice beats. The lirics are wonderful. Full of meaning. I've had it for 3 days and i listened to it about a 100000000000000000000000 times. Very original. My fav is 'This is not love at all'.I love the phone ringing. 'Song of joy' has like sort of swahili, or jamaican sort of fell to it.' Nothing bad you can say about it. Miwa(the lead singer) has this strong voice, everyone loves. This cd is a mix of rock, funk, pop. You'll probably forget all those other..peoples. Er Britney Spears, And Christina Agulira.

In the first Americna release of popular Japanese group Dreams Come True, singer Miwa exhibits a great range of both notes and styles. This album has a wonderful blend of many different types of songs, from soaring songs of joy to humorous pieces; even some seriousness included. This is not what typically comes across from Japan in Japanese animation; here is something that could refresh American pop and bring some light to the future of the music world.

I never cared for Pop until I heard this band!,

I can't believe it, but I love this album! I first heard of DCT from seeing a video clip at Best Buy. Miwa Yoshida is a true Diva with a voice that's melodic & sexy (step aside, Mariah). She uses no sexy gimmicks to promote her image as most American "divas" do; just pure talent with a refreshingly wholesome image.Whether singing in Japanese or English, I could listen to her for hours. I continue to enjoy listening to this wonderful album, & I think you will too! |
