5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelieveable !!! Amazing!!!
This is the first book I have read by Kathryn Lynn Davis. I was very impressed. The writing was exceptional . I didn't get bored at all in any part of the book. The book came alive for me when I read it. I took my time to enjoy the book since I read like super fast . This is one of the Few Books I would keep forever and read over and over and over and feel like i am...

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent start - but disappointing in the end
I was completely immersed in this book in the beginning. After Saylah moved in with the Ivy family, there were several stories that added some mystery to the story. Unfortunately the questions that added interest were never answered leaving me disappointed and unsatisfied. For example, I could not understand why Jamie couldn't move on and appreciate his present wife...

This is the first book I have read by Kathryn Lynn Davis. I was very impressed. The writing was exceptional . I didn't get bored at all in any part of the book. The book came alive for me when I read it. I took my time to enjoy the book since I read like super fast . This is one of the Few Books I would keep forever and read over and over and over and feel like i am reading again for the first time . I m going to look for it in hardback . If she does come out with a sequel i will be the first to buy it. This story is so good , Its about love and trust and belief in yourself . I could go on and on forever about this book . But they only allow a 1,000 words and thats not enough space. This book is wonderful if you can get any copy anywhere grab it !! I got mine of ebay for like 50 cents. WOW BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER BOUGHT . !!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book That Truly Touches Your Soul!, February 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sing to Me of Dreams (Mass Market Paperback)
How do you convey to others the depths to which one book has touched your soul, your very essence? Ms. Davis delved deep within herself and pulled forth a novel that has the ability to not only be a highly engrossing tale of a young woman who is at once interesting, mysterious and indomitable yet on certain levels innocent and fragile but it also has the ability to make the reader take a closer look at what makes them who they are. The characters in this book come alive and make you want to know them personally. It is creative, fresh and in no way formulaic. I have read and reread the book and listened to the Audio version too often to count. Anyone who has the opportunity to read this rich, extremely well written novel and passes it up has truly missed out! I, as well as everyone I have ever come across who has encountered this book, avidly await it's sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars A story for the ages..., September 18, 2002
This review is from: Sing to Me of Dreams (Hardcover)
I am lucky enough to have met Kathryn Lynn Davis back in 1985 when her equally talented husband Michael was our wedding photographer. I had never read any of her books, nor did I even know her name, avid reader though I am. Intrigued by her intelligence and heart, I started reading, and I became a fan. Her tales are never shallow, but are deeply human and compelling, with eloquence that draws you into every emotion. Sing to Me of Dreams is every bit such a tale. Saylah's struggles and the lessons she learns are woven beautifully in the historical setting, and yet they are timeless and valuable to all of us, and we can easily share her feelings. I've gone through three copies so far, and now protect my current copy as irreplaceable treasure.

By the way, just a little note on the name. I was deeply honored when Kathy told me that she liked my nickname, Selah, so much that she had used it, with spelling changes, in her book. If only I could be more like my semi-namesake at times. *Sigh*

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rich and Haunting Story, October 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sing to Me of Dreams (Hardcover)
I originally read this book back in 1996 and have since read it again. I loved the stories, the characters and being able to become totally emersed into their lives. I feel as haunted by these characters as the whole Ivy family felt by Simone. There are alot of unanswered questions and I am glad that I am not the only one axiously awaiting the SEQUEL. This book has stayed with me a long time, I can't wait to read more.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and poignant love story, May 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sing to Me of Dreams (Mass Market Paperback)
Sing to Me of Dreams is a beautifully written book. I found it a bit slow in the beginning, but once the Ivys came into the picture the story really began to unfold. The love between Saylah and Julian is allowed to unfold gradually and very realistically. Kathryn Lynn Davis' characters are all drawn with exquisite care and their emotions are real and totally convincing. A beautiful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sequel! Where's the freakin' sequel??, August 30, 2001

This review is from: Sing to Me of Dreams (Mass Market Paperback)
Okay, let me tell you how much I loved this book. When my first copy fell irreparably apart from so many re-readings, I tore all the pages into neat little squares and put them into a silver bowl with some potpourri and burned them. Then I put the ashes into the soil in my flower bed. It was a gesture of respect for one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read. Then again, maybe I'm just a psycho. Anyhoo... I've been waiting none too patiently for the sequel these many years since - unhappily watching all of Ms. Davis' new books come out except for the one I REALLY wanted - the SEQUEL to STMoD.
One more word - has anyone read Jean M. Auel's series starting with Clan of the Cave Bear? The hero and heroine are named Ayla and Jondalar... there are other remarkable similarities between their story and that of Saylah and Julian - except Auel's story takes up 4 books instead of Davis' 1. Someone read them and let me know if you notice. It's uncanny!
PLEASE give me a sequel! I'm dying over here!

4.0 out of 5 stars Touching and intriguing; thought provoking yet sweet, July 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sing to Me of Dreams (Mass Market Paperback)
Full of details to vividly paint pictures in your mind. Captivating and hard to put down. Eventually I found myself pushing past some slower heavily detailed pages which the author purposely places to make you wait, shift focus and build your anticipation. I skimmed pages of lesser value to me as I had to move ahead and get back to Saylah and Julian. I too, thought the ending slightly abrupt - it could have been more blissful and built into a bigger climax. Perhaps purposely done to make you want to wait for the sequel. I came out here looking to buy the sequel only to see others are waiting for it too!

Except for some too-graphic love scenes, it was terrific. I really want an answer to the question, "Where is the promised sequel?".
