Book Description

February 3, 2004
Lilac O'Malley Ryan doesn't even recognize country music star Jonathan Van Castle when he bursts into her store. And she's bewildered by what seem like tongue-tied attempts at charm. She just wants to make a sale-and get him out the door. But it turns out to be a lot harder getting that to-die-for smile out of her mind...

And once they put their rocky start behind them, Jon and Lil will discover what happens when two unlikely lovers hit the perfect note...

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Country music heartthrob Jonathan Van Castle, on the run from overenthusiastic groupies, barges into the shop of the one woman in town guaranteed not to be impressed by him, his music, or his fame. Lily's husband is dead, her livelihood is in danger, and her concern is only for Jon's two children, whom he hasn't seen in years. Gradually, Jon comes to see Lil as the answer to his dilemma. He arranges a marriage of convenience in order to wrest custody of Melanie and Michael from Belinda, their abusive mother, but comes to love Lil for herself and to enjoy the loving atmosphere she and her unconventional extended family create for him, his children, and his entourage. As the custody hearing approaches, Belinda's greed overcomes her good sense, and Jon realizes just what a treasure he has found in Lil. Corgiat's Missouri Ozark-based contemporary romance starts slowly and builds rapidly toward a shattering climax. Lynne Welch

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book from a first time author!!, March 5, 2004
This review is from: Sing Me Home (Paperback)
This is a first time author but the book reads like one from someone much more experienced. It deals with a young widow still reeling from the death of her husband (and her subsequent miscarriage) and the marriage of convenience she enters into with a country music star (in order to help care for his two pre-teen children so he can get full custody of them). Very enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderfully romantic page turner, June 15, 2004

NANCY JOHANSON (Antioch, Ca. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sing Me Home (Paperback)
I chose this book partly because of it's title and partly because of the story line on the back of the book. This author is unknown to me but if you're looking for a well written, romantic story then this is it. I will definitely read her next book when it comes out in november of this year. The characters are believable and very enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing family drama, February 3, 2004
This review is from: Sing Me Home (Paperback)
Three years ago in Cordelia, Missouri her husband died in a car crash because they were negligent in fixing bad brakes. That same day bookseller Lilac Ryan lost her unborn. Now she suffers guilt partially for living and for her part in the disregard of car repair.

Country rock star Jonathan Van Castle heads home to pick up his two children from his ex-wife before stopping to perform at Lake Kesebwi, but gets off the tour bus in Cordelia for a breather. When he is recognized by rapid fans, he ducks into Lilac's bookstore but the proprietor fails to identify him. Lilac thinks he is a jerk because he knows so little about his kids. He buys books for them, but one is left on order that Lila promises to deliver.

When Lilac's sister Mari delivers the book, Jonathan sees how great she is with his children so he proposes a marriage of convenience because he wants to help his troubled children, but realizes they also need a nurturing mother. When Jonathan and his children meet Mari's stunned extended family, he realizes he picked the wrong sister as Lilac is great with his preadolescents and he quickly falls in love with her.

SING ME HOME is an intriguing family drama starring a vast band of players so that it is difficult at times to keep track of specific personalities. Still the story line is fun to follow as a desperate Jonathan struggles with a solution to help his problematic kids. Lilac admits she feels guilty, but is so good in relationships with everyone that she seems to have moved on. The ensemble adds chaos and depth to an intriguing romance between wounded warriors.
