Editorial Reviews

Review

of use for Music Hall performers and producers who want to know who wrote what and when and who sang it./Plays and Players Applause Dec 98/Jan99

`With Sing Us One of the Old Songs, the Oxford University Press have made a useful addition to their range of reference works on popular music... it is interesting to note the range and sheer number of songs in many artistes' repertoires... Considering the immensity of the task in producing this work, it is likely to remain the only one of its kind for a considerable length of time, and it provides a valuable tool for the researcher and historian.' Graeme Cruickshank, Theatre Notebook Vol.54 No.2

`A marvellous resource for those wishing to document popular songs in the repertoires of traditional singers... packed with a wealth of information. Many songs which one had taken to be purely traditional can be traced to their source... this is the sort of reference book which is hard to put down, since one pleasing discovery constantly leads to another... a bountiful treasure house which will be plundered far into the next millenium.' Roy Palmer, ED and S
