5.0 out of 5 stars The Saw Doctors are Brilliant!
Finally my favorite band has a U.S. release! This CD is worth any money spent on it. The songs are classics and you'll want to play it over and over. If you love Ireland or Irish music, you MUST buy this album as well as the rest of the Docs' music! This brilliant band is finally crossing over into the states, a godsend for those of us not living in the Emerald...

3.0 out of 5 stars Grows old fast, but first few listens are really fun.
My older brother and I agree on this one. Many of the songs (especially the first 7-8) sound great the first 3-4 times, but they grow old very quickly after that. We concluded that the songs and writing must be generally thin. The band is good and fun live.

Now we statespeople can really get down to having a good Irish time with some good Irish music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, October 20, 1999

I first heard the Saw Doctors when an Irish friend of mine sat me down and said 'Here...Listen to this." The song was 'I useta lover'. Two lines into the song and my foot was tapping away. I have been a huge fan ever since. I am sorry that I am not able to get some of their albums in Australia (thank God for Amazon!) The Saw Doctors great accents and natural tones are a turn on for any person. Double thumbs up!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stirs the soul and taps the foot-- is simply great music!, June 26, 1998

The Saw Doctors have done it again. Known as one of the world's best concert bands, the Doctors compilation album ranks with anyone's as pure rock and roll, flavored with Irish roots, and English pub grub style. Difficult to classify, and anti-R and B (no melodic, soulful tunes here), the Docs sing to you and me and we love it. Their following is as faithful as any's and the audience for this band is increasing every day. How long can we ignore this talented group of singers and songwriters form Galway any longer!? Wake up, America!! Get your head out of the garbage MTV and the record companies make you swallow and listen for yourself once again. To win just once....yeah...to win just once!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to a great band, August 14, 2001

I saw the SawDoctors at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA. I was first drawn by the enthusiasm of the crowd. I listened awhile, and really got into the music. I left with this CD in my hand. I hate to use the term "feel-good" because, to me, that denotes something bubblegum and sanitary. Instead, it brought on the feeling of hanging out with a bunch of friends and enjoying a casual brew. So instead of "feel-good" perhaps, camaraderie-building would be more apt. This CD was a great introduction for me. I plan to buy more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yeeeee HAAAWwwwww!, October 17, 1998

Wow. "Usedta Lover" has to be the meanest song ever written that didn't use one of the seven deadly words. It's so incredibly, positively, astonishingly mean, plain, flat out rotten MEAN that it's hysterically funny.

Besides, most of us have been there once or twice.

The whole album is a gem. It's Rock and Roll, not some kind of corporate-speak-schlock. The band rocks hard without trying, and they have an edge that I haven't heard since the Kinks' "Father Christmas".

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff !, May 29, 2000

This was my first Saw Doctors disc and I was very impressed. I have always been a huge Pogues fan and enjoyed traditional Irish music as well. This is a nice balance of tunes. "To win just once" describes my soccer team perfectly.

OUTSTANDING ALBUM! Seems that every song on this CD is a hit! From a Travel Channel favorite, like "The Green and Red of Mayo" to a brilliant overture like Sing a Powerful Song", or a fun and lively song like N17, the whole CD rings a liveliness and fun to listen to brilliance that only the Beatles have done in the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen to this when you're feeling down..., July 29, 1999

I absolutely love this disc and listen to it all of the time...I never get sick of it. If you are into poignant lyrics, SAPS is for you. Leo Moran is a wonderful lyricist!! Some songs are light and airy, some are more serious...but all are brilliantly written. If you have the chance, you MUST see these guys live!!
