Fantastic illustrations,
This review is from: Sing In Praise (Hardcover)
Marjorie Torrey gave us very sensitive, richly colored illustrations. Even her sketches are delicate and believable. The book has made me want to find more from her. Torrey won two Caldecott medals: one for this book in 1947 and another for "Sing Mother Goose" in 1946. And the stories by Wheeler are extremely interesting, as well. For instance, psalms were chanted until Isaac Watts put poem to melody and created hymns. Thank you, Isaac Watts!
This books contains childhood stories of 19 hymn writers, musical scores for 25 hymns, and many lovely illustrations.
