4.0 out of 5 stars Tribute Album before the Phrase was Coined!
Not a tribute to any one artist, but an example of The Bobs' love of popular music. If you like the Bobs, you'll love to hear their renditions of the songs they love. All the songs on this album, have that Bobsian a'capella feel, so don't expect the rock tunes to rock out. One exception is "Whole Lotta Love," which definitely rocks, but for the most part,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Flat Sound
The songs they are covering are great. The Bobs' arrangements are great. Yet this album just doesn't sound all that good. The sound is pretty flat, not doing justice to the tonal range of the singers. The bass doesn't come through as very bassy. The highs are probably accurately represented though.

Still, it's not horrible, just a little disappointing. "Come...

All the songs on this album, have that Bobsian a'capella feel, so don't expect the rock tunes to rock out. One exception is "Whole Lotta Love," which definitely rocks, but for the most part, these songs have different tempos and feels than the originals. If you are new to the music of The Bobs, try "My I'm Large," and listen to their quirky originality. If you like it come back and try this one. The best tune, IMHO, on "Sing the Songs of..." is "You Really Got A Hold On Me." Very smooth and poignant.

Still, it's not horrible, just a little disappointing. "Come Together" is amazing, and the arrangements on most of the other songs are also impressive and entertaining.

I'd recommend you don't pay a fortune to get this new, but get the mp3s or a used copy instead. It isn't going to be the gem of your collection although you may find it enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected fun covers in a cappella delightful ways, January 16, 2006
This review is from: Sing the Songs of (Audio CD)
Ok, so there's three songs on here where I don't think they get the best interpretations: 'Ring of Fire', 'Come Together' and 'Good Lovin''. 'Come Together' is probably one of 2 or 3 BEATLES songs that are not very satisfying for me (along with 'Hey Jude'). So, it could just be me on that one.

However, all the other covers are quite enjoyable, particularly when they do classic rock songs and rework them in their a cappella format. Delightful album. chrisbct@hotmail.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Will he ever learn to play the saxophone?, September 27, 2005

This review is from: Sing the Songs of (Audio CD)
This was the fourth album by a capella group the Bobs. It is a collection of cover songs, with five of the songs being repeated from their earlier albums (there is one Bobs original compostion included). This album is notable for being the only album where the Bobs had five members, instead of four. This album was recorded during the brief period after Joe Finetti had joined the group, but before Gunnar Madsen left the group. Of course, the songs repeated from the first three albums only have the four original members performing on them. Anyway, most of the songs on the album are a lot of fun. If you are a fan of a capella singing, you should enjoy it.
