Bill and Gloria are at their very best....,
This review is from: Sing Your Blues Away [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have all of the "Gaither Homecoming Friends" videos, and this one is probably my very favorite. Filmed live at the Tennessee Center for Performing Arts in Nashville, the legends of Gospel music offer a marvelous gift of praise, encouragement, and testimony about the unfailing faithfulness of our God. My favorite selection is Guy Penrod and Larry Ford leading the congregation in "I will Sing of my Redeemer." Interspersed with wonderful testimonies from the participants, such songs as "O Happy Day," "It Won't Rain Always," "I feel like Traveling On," and the title song, "Sing Your Blues Away" make for a wonderful experience of rejoicing in the goodness of the Lord. I have watched this video hundreds of times, and am blest every time. Bill and Gloria Gaither certainly know how to bring out the best in people...and so does God!

VERY INSPIRING VIDEO... WONDERFUL PRAISE AND WORSHIP SONGS... I'M LIKE ONE OF THE OTHER REVIEWERS "I WILL SING OF MY REDEEMER" IS VERY GOOD... MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE SONGS ON THE VIDEO IS "BECAUSE HE LIVES." JONATHAN PIERCE DOES A SUPERB SOLO PART ON "BECAUSE HE LIVES." I HAVE SEVERAL OF THE GAITHER VIDEOS ALSO, AND EVERYTIME JONATHAN PIERCE WAS USED IT WAS DYNAMIC...

SING YOUR BLUES AWAY,
This review is from: Sing Your Blues Away (DVD)
This video produced around 1996 is uplifting, joyous and full of humor. It seemed to be a forgotten work until the present offering.
First, the video is all about lifting the blues. Bill and Mark Lowry have some hilarious sketches which you are sure to enjoy. Program includes: Sin Ain't Nothing But the Blues - Buddy Green on harmonica, Calvin Newton, Bill Gaither. Led out of Bondage - George Younce I know who Holds Tomorrow - Buddy Liles, Larry Ford It Won't Rain Always - Cynthia Clawson If the Lord Wasn't Walking By My Side - Henry Slaughter One More Valley - Bob Cain (many fans know that Bob Cain died about nine years ago and not only was a great singer but a great musician) Roses Will Bloom again - the Easters The Old Gospel Ship - Gaither Vocal Band, Vestal Goodman - Vestal takes this one home. This is Just What Heaven Means to Me - Vestal Goodman God Is with Us - Buddy Greene I Have a Father who Can - the Issacs My Redeemer - Guy Penrod, Larry Ford (the harmony on this song is amazing - there are really no words to describe it) Joy Comes in the Morning - Joy garner Through It All - Ben Speer, Jessy Dixon Because He Lives - Squire Parsons, Terry Blackwood, Jonathan Pierce (Jonathan was a member of GVB at this particular time) O Happy Day - Homecoming Friends and many More.

Another in the Gaither Video Series taped at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in 1996. I was disappointed in the quality of tone, color, lighting and staging of this performance. There was something about the sound that seemed loud or harsh. Maybe it was the theme and choice of songs.
That said: There were a number of songs I did enjoy "Led Out of Bondage" featuring George Younce, "I Don't Know About Tomorrow" featuring Buddy Liles and Larry Ford, and "Through It All" featuring Ben Speer, and Jesse Dixon. It was a fast moving concert packed with music and a huge cast. This concert included many songs featuring the entire homecoming cast singing with group smaller ensembles and solo artists featured in short segments. These numbers included: "Joy Comes in the Morning" with Joy Gardner, "I Have a Father" featuring Guy Penrod and Larry Ford, the Nelons singing "The Lord Stood By Me," the Isaacs singing "My Redeemer," and many others. Cynthia Clauson, Henry Slaughter, Squire Parsons, Jonathan Pierce, the Talleys, and Sheri Easter were among the many others who were also featured. What the concert lacked in quality it made up for in with a full musical program.
