5.0 out of 5 stars PURE GOLD OLDIE October 18, 2011
By Kacy
Format:Audio CD
I remember every one of these and love 'em all, from his early records and his famous performance at L.A.'s Greek theater (and/or Madison Square Garden, he did both), during late 50's/early 60s. I used to have a vinyl of Belafonte at the Greek; I'm SO glad to be able to play these songs again!

A Hole in The Bucket is a duet with Odetta from live concert, it's hilarious; I love her too, and love hearing the audience laugh... Island In The Sun is from the movie, it's great; and there are Jamaican folk songs, some funny like Momma Look A Boo Boo, some melancholy and evoking their hardships, like Sylvie.

Haven't heard his Forever Young so went looking; seems there's a good reason it's not on this compilation. Amazon shows it was released as a single, Forever Young/Something to Hold On To, vinyl only, and NOT available. There was a record available of Forever Young done as a medley by Harry and Jabulani, but also vinyl only; this came up when I searched Amazon under MP3s. Somebody needs to get that one online for us!!

Cu Cu Ru Cu Cu is on a bunch of other albums and available here, from Amazon, as an MP3, so no need for it to be on this album, which gives us room for a less-publicized hit. Good! As for me, I'm getting this new Harry album and happy to have it!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Sing Your Song: Harry Belafonte October 14, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I know all of the songs on this CD and I have no idea who picked them as Harry's best. I know of many other songs that he sang that moved me to tears which none of these do. For one: his version of Bob Dylan's; Forever Young is the best rendition of that song that was ever recorded. And then there is the Heart rendering Cu Cu Ru Cu Cu Paloma. These are 2 of his very best songs and they are missing from this collection. I adore the music of Harry Belafonte and I am disappointed in this collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harry "Bella" beautiful "Fonte" January 3, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Wow, "Sing your Song" makes me realize how much I have missed hearing Harry's voice. Children, adults, elders I can't imagine who couldn't respond to the fun, joy and feelings that his music evokes! It made me read his new book, which was so much more than I expected. Amazing life story, such a detailed history of the civil rights movement, the black experience in the arts, an inspirational life of commitment and integrity. Like the CD I couldn't stop listening or put it down.

I took a chance on Harry Belafonte in the process of finding good music for my kids. They love Day-o, Jump in the Line, and others. What I did not expect was how much I love his work, too. Sophisticated, funny, and it will give your home a Carribean Vacation feel, though many pieces are Sinatra style jazzy. Why put up with listening to Sesame Street all Relaxing and enjoyable, makes you want to be nice to everybody. If everyone listened to Harry Belafonte, we would soon have world peace.

Why put up with listening to Kidz Rock and Elmo songs all day, when Kids love this sort of music, too?

"Sing your Song"
Hi Marie,

I have the same question. Just became aware of the documentary through Mr. Belafonte's appearance on the PBS Tavis Smiley show at the end of December. I've since tried to find out whether it's still airing or available for purchase anywhere - unsuccessfully.

If you, or anyone... Read More
