5.0 out of 5 stars Robbie Williams is Supreme
Although I've heard some of Robbie WIlliams songs on the radio I've never bought one of his CD's. The previous reviews I read on Amazon were so good I thought I'd give it a try. To say that I really like this CD is an understatement: It's eclectic with Williams bouncing back and forth between hard-rock, tender ballads, infectious dance songs and back to hard rock. When...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Some artists only seem to strike gold occasionally in their careers. This seems to be true of Robbie Williams. This, the follow-up to the fabulous I've Been Expecting You, hasn't even half the strength of said album. True, Sing When You're Winning has some memorable numbers, a slice of British pop-rock around the turn of the millennium. The most famous tracks are "Kids",...

When I first heard "Supreme" I was amazed at the layers, beauty and simple greatness of the song. I can't seem to play it enough. It's been years since a song fired me up so much. Be warned that many of Williams songs aren't for the masses who like Christina, Brittany, N'Sync, etc. His lyrics are complex and introspective but work so well with the music. Try this CD if you're adventurous.

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get better then this!, June 18, 2001
robbie Williams has got to be one of the more accessable singers out there today. His lyrics make you think, make you sing and his music simply moves you. He can be catchy and up-beat in one song and serious in an other. He is like a good friend who knows how to cheer you up, who knows that life is filled with ups and downs. This Cd has got it all, dance numbers, thought provoking songs and a little romance thrown in. Robbie loves to sing and I would guess loves to party and it shows. Excellent album from a down to earth fun loving man. Hope there are more in the works. I have the Canadian version by the way which has Robbie singing in French and spanish on two bonus tracks. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Robbie's Cdn. Version, April 18, 2001

This is a wonderful CD! Musically, the style is more mature than "the ego has landed". The lyrics are interesting, & the melodies innovative. Road To Mandalay has quickly become one of my favorites, and it's a great surprise when you hear Ser Mejor and the French version of Supreme for the first time. As with "the ego has landed", there are some tracks on this one that just make you want to jump up and dance! If you've enjoyed past albums, then this is definately one you'll want to hear.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, March 12, 2010

This review is from: Sing When Youre Winning (Audio CD)
Some artists only seem to strike gold occasionally in their careers. This seems to be true of Robbie Williams. This, the follow-up to the fabulous I've Been Expecting You, hasn't even half the strength of said album. True, Sing When You're Winning has some memorable numbers, a slice of British pop-rock around the turn of the millennium. The most famous tracks are "Kids", "Rock DJ" and "Supreme". Only the last of these does the album proud in my ever so honest opinion.

The catchy and energetic "Let Love Be Your Energy" is a decent appetiser to an album that ultimately doesn't amount to much. "Rock DJ" is a song that Robbie himself admits has no substance whatsoever. "Kids" is fun but ultimately not much more gripping. "Supreme"... now we're talking. An interestingly dark and simultaneously catchy track (with a bridge heavily borrowed from "I Will Survive"), it's quite on the compelling side. "By All Means Necessary" is even darker, and was apparently a song that was forgotten as a demo before being digged up by Robbie and co for this album. It deserved its light of day, a touching and restless number.

The serious problem with Sing When You're Winning is that it, ironically, has no winner. It has no instantly-recognisable songs like "Angels" (even if I never was a fan of that one) or "No Regrets". All tracks just lack the spunk of Robbie's previous two efforts, especially I've Been Expecting You. True, there are good songs, the problem is that they don't speak of the strong material that Williams and Chambers are capable of making. "Forever Texas" is as hollow as "Rock DJ". The only real stand-out is "Singing for the Lonely", a hopeful and inspiring song. And even that is no truly dynamite track.

It didn't have to be this way. I am puzzled to this day how the exquisite "Eternity", to be released as a double single with "Road to Mandalay" (and a double video), could be left off Sing When You're Winning. That would easily have been the album's winner track. Alas, it was not to be. (And while we're at it, the supposed "hidden surprise" does nothing but increase my ill-will toward the album).

After Robbie went through his swing phase following this album, he showed us that he still has it, so good news there. I would have to wait until Intensive Care to get my hope back in Robbie's music, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sing When You're Winning, September 25, 2008

This review is from: Sing When Youre Winning (Audio CD)
Sing When You're Winning is simple straight forward pop music at its best. Robbie Williams writes simple, catchy lyrics and has the vocal skills that are quite good. The book-let is a hoot. Robbie Williams went with a football theme. Here we have Robbie posing as players, fans police officers, manager, and it is freaking brilliant. Infact it is 100% Robbie Williams with the teams even called RW and donned in red and blue! . You can also tell that he had great time doing this! This is the first album that I have listened to by RW and after this I will listen to the rest. Robbie Williams is a modern day genius!

5.0 out of 5 stars Too GREAT, January 15, 2003

I bought the canadian CD and was overwhelmed. The language isn't explicit as I personally thought it was in my expectations. It's an overwhelm charm. Although, the pictorial representation is explicit and influential, it's a GREAT CD. He definitely leads a great role model for all British music artists. Love it. 5 STARS.

Warning----the CD is unfortunately pictorally represented badly. Inside of the CD. 5 STARS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, December 12, 2000

Robbie William's latest release is pretty typical of Williams' music. The music on here is not as famous as his other releases, but if you enjoy Williams' other albums, you'll probably like this one.
