I sent an e-mail to Singer customer service.

The bobbin would start to skip stitches on the bottom of the fabric, then it would bunch and tangle and throw the error message.

In Wasted time, and Gas, I have spent more than this machine is worth.

I purchased this machine from Walmart but was very skeptical because of the negative reviews I read here. At first I was unable to make a good stitch, the bobbin thread kept balling up under the bottom fabric. Being a fisherman, I began to look at the problem from that perspective and realized when I had this problem with a fishing reel it was because I overfilled it. I removed several wraps of thread from the bobbin and was able to finally make a good stitch. Reading through the instructions I found how I could adjust the bobbin tension and did as directed. I am now able to completely fill the bobbin and make good stitches. So far the machine seems to do everything I want. I havent tried all the stitches but the zigzag and the others I have tried work great. I am looking forward to using this machine now for my repairs (which is what I basically bought it for) and maybe even progress to actual sewing projects. This seems like a great machine and I would encourage anyone with similar problems to adjust the bobbin tension before giving up. Next I plan on installing a new zipper on a pair of pants.

Great sewing machine! Lots of options but yet easy to use. I have always owned a Singer and probably always will.

I'm new to sewing and this is my first sewing machine. I've done a few projects like pillowcases and minky baby blankets and overall I love this machine! The only issue I have had was breaking one needle going over a pin. The needle was very easy to replace...I'm not sure why previous reviewer had such a hard time. My machine came with all instructions and accessories with no missing or open pieces. The machine is quiet and does what I ask it to do. I love it! I can't wait to try out some of the more intricate stitches it comes with.

This is a nice machine with the exception that the thread is constantly jamming from the spool or having tension issues. The tension was generally difficult to adjust. Finally, I opened up the housing and could see thread wrapped so often around a bar inside that it was too tight to be unravelled and in a location nearly impossible to reach. In laboring over this tedious task with a seam ripper, I knocked the tension mechanism out of alignment. Now I will probably have to pay a repairman $90 which is nearly the cost of the machine. Thought I would just bite the bullet and buy another Sewmate but CAN'T FIND THAT STYLE now around the stores here. Maybe it was a close-out? And if so, I'll bet I know why. It would be nice if their repair people didn't charge the cost of the machine to repair it. I will also add that you only get a very basic computer disc and no real operating manual with this machine. It would be nice to have some kind of schematic, as I'm sure this tension arm is an easy thing to repair for my husband. So frustrating.

I second the suggestion to reset the machine if you have a problem... I am new to sewing so I'm sure I'm causing issues with operator error... or a toddler's meddling... but turning the machine off and back on works for me! I've broken needles but I think that was because I needed to use a stronger needle, whoops. I've dealt with tons of issues with thread becoming a knotted mess on the underside of the fabric, but I chalk it up to the 'learning curve' of being a sewing newbie. I have appreciated upgrading to this sewing machine from a vintage garage sale find... it has wonderful improvements from my last machine, like auto-threading and digitized stitch options, etc. Yet, it's also simpler than some machines probably are... I broke a needle on the metal plate and misaligned the needle... I was able to open the side and fiddle around and make it line up properly again. I was pretty proud of myself for that, ha! I do realize this isn't a high-end machine... but does the job for me! I liked the lighting on my last machine better... I don't have great lighting in my sewing room. And I find myself wishing it was faster when I'm really on a 'roll', so I imagine a better seamstress might need a faster machine. But not sure!

I have had this machine for 2 years and it is awesome. I no longer have tension problems, buttonholes are no longer feared, and the decorative stitches allow me to be creative or finish seams like a pro. I would never go back to the old Singers. The only complaints I have is the foot control seems less responsive than others I have had and it wiggles as if something is loose. After 2 years it has remained the same and sews fine so I have not worried about this. Also replacing the needle seems a little more difficult than other machines.I am buying another one for my daughter for Christmas this year exactly like mine. If anything messes up on this machine (including me) I just turn it off and back on and it is perfect tension every time.

I bought this machine at Wal-Mart as a back up until my Kenmore Machine got a new pedal. This machine is so lightweight it moves all over the table. It skips stitches. It doesn't like to go fast at all. It also does not do well with multiple layers. I was so disappointed. I thought a Singer would have been a better quality. I want others to know of the problems I had. I am an experienced/advanced sewer. I have sewn for many years. I can usually troubleshoot any problem. I don't think a beginner has a chance with this machine. I think it will quickly discourage a new sewer. May be I got a lemon? I really do NOT like this machine and would NOT recommend it to anyone.
