Additional Features & Benefits

Extra-High Sewing Speed

Professional speed of 1,100 stitches per minute allows for faster results.

Suction Cup Machine Base

Holds the machine securely to the table, even when sewing at maximum speed.

Adjustable Stitch Length and Width

Keep seams strong and prevent bunching on any fabric type

Adjustable Tension

Adjust the needle tension to ensure stable stitch quality on any type of fabric. You can also change the tension according to special project settings.

Automatic Reverse

Push the conveniently located automatic reverse button to sew in reverse and reinforce the stitch.

Three Needle Positions

Needle positions can be changed for individual projects, such as inserting zippers, cording and topstitching.

5mm Stitch Width

Most stitches can be set for a maximum width of 5mm. When sewing decorative stitches, the wide stitches are bolder and more pronounced.

Extra-High Presser Foot Lifter

The extra high presser foot lifter offers more clearance when placing multiple layers of bulky fabric under the presser foot.

Automatic Presser Foot Pressure Control

The amount of pressure exerted on the fabric by the presser foot against the feed dogs is automatic. Sew from the lightest weight tricots to the heaviest denim, without making pressure adjustments.

Touch-N-Wind™ Declutch Bobbin System

The needle bar automatically disengages when winding the bobbin, making bobbin winding safer.

Horizontal Threading

Quality stitches begin with proper thread delivery. Placing the thread spool in the horizontal position allows for the thread to feed more evenly, reducing poor stitch formation and thread breakage.

7-Segment Feeding System

This is a specially designed feed dog that ensures that the fabric is picked up and supported from the front of the presser foot to the rear. This provides for much more accurate feeding of the fabric.

Box Feed

This is a function that moves the feed dogs in a box motion, rather than the historic arc motion. Box motion assures perfect feeding throughout the entire feed process, as the feed dogs are always in perfect and equal contact with the fabric and presser foot.

Free Arm with On-Board Storage

The free arm provides easy access to cuffs, collars, pant hems and other difficult-to-reach areas. The on-board storage provides easy access to the included accessories.

Snap-On Presser Feet

Easily change snap-on presser feet without use of a screwdriver.

Thread Cutter

Located on the machine for precise thread cutting, eliminating the extra step of cutting thread with scissors.

Portable and Cabinet Mountable

The machine has a built-in carry handle, making it easy to transport the machine. The machine can also be mounted into a cabinet in a few easy steps.

DC Motor

Provides instant start up and stop with no coasting, for accurate and precise stitch placement.

The Right Stitch: Easier Sewing With Better Results.

The SINGER CG-590 Commercial Grade sewing machine offers 18 built-in stitches for fashion sewing, construction, quilting, heirloom, crafts, home decorating, and decorative sewing. Plus, the included stitch guide is a handy reference that tells you when to use every stitch and setting.

I have been a tailor for twenty years. My last Singer lasted more than 35 years (it belonged to my grandmother before me). When I finally let that one go, I purchased this one. I don't use it an unusual amount since I also have an industrial and do a great deal of work by hand. It last 1 1/2 years before it needed $135 worth of repairs. And that didn't even cover everything it needed. The warranty is a JOKE. I called just to ask a maintenance question. I was put on hold for 45 MINUTES and when a rep did come on, she immediately began dissecting everything I said to give me a million reasons why the warranty was invalid, (including the fact that I had opened the case to CHANGE THE LIGHTBULB per the instructions!!! and the fact that I was a professional tailor). I WASN'T EVEN TRYING TO MAKE A CLAIM ON THE WARRANTY!!!! I recently discovered that Singer only licenses the name now, and doesn't make the reliable old work horses I was accustomed to. If you sew more than once a month save yourself a world of frustration and get the JUKI. Same price but incredibly reliable and sturdy. I will never buy anything else again.

I have found this machine to be both compact and well made. Mostly metal, there are a few plastic bits, but I don't think these would cause future problems. It's FAST- super fast. It zips through heavy weight fabrics with ease. I am pleased with the simple, but useful array of stitches (my other machines offer more stitches, but I rarely use them). This machine is stable and does not bounce (I have returned other machines that bounce when used).

I think the light could be vastly improved -- it is way too dim. I prefer the LCD light on my other machines.

All and all, I would buy this machine again and recommend to other crafters.

UPDATE: I have now been using this machine for several weeks. I'm very impressed-- the speed is fabulous-- note, this may be too fast for people new to sewing. Good thing Singer added a finger guard (which gets in the way a bit, but I'm sure I would have otherwise sewn through my fingers by now). Most recently, I have enjoyed how effortlessly it zipps through thick fabrics - amazing!

This is my second machine and I bought it because it seemed heavier duty than most in the price range. While the criticism about plastic parts is fair, the body is solid metal and heavy and the motor is extremely powerful. It's very easy to use, and the self adjusting tension is great, as I hate messing around with tension. the light could be brighter but overall I'm really happy with it. So far, all of the generic low shank feet I've bought have worked with it.

I'm thrilled with the performance of the CG590 so far. I purchased it as a replacement for my original Singer/Merritt 1827 which I purchased over 20 years ago that also worked like a champ until it mysteriously disappeared. Again, to agree with others, there are plastic parts that I just don't care for, like the presser foot arm lift. It works just like it should! Don't get me wrong, but that particular part just "feels" less than sturdy. The CG590 HAULS. Make no mistake, if you're not careful and very cautious with the foot pedal, without the needle guard, you really could do some damage, but if you're in control and have a lot of yardage to get through, this is the machine to do it. Just make sure your work surface is also heavy duty. The motor in this baby is so strong that it'll shake your table and even with the little suction cups at the base (yeah, ha!), the machine body WILL MOVE if your table isn't absolutely solid. Great machine by Singer! I had been depressed by all of the word that Singer had gone completely plastic and wasn't worth diddly anymore. Not so! You can also purchase (or use your old ones!) solid metal feet if you're like me and totally hate the plastic ones. It's just a personal thing and I don't feel secure using a snap-on anything when I'm sewing. I'm a little rough I guess. No upholstery fabrics or sailcloth for me yet, but I did manage four and eight layers of broadcloth while hand guiding velcro onto it with no problems.

Singer CG590 Commercial Grade Sewing Machine

I sew for profession - up to 20 hours a week actual sewing. My children gifted me this new "commercial" machine for Christmas 2010. It has been broken and dysfunctional the entire time. I have probably been able to successfully use this machine less than 40 hours in two years time. The bobbin winder, when working, made loose, sloppy bobbins. Never completely wound. During the first week, after the 3rd bobbin, the mechanism broke. No local authorized service - only instruction was to mail the machine to the service center. Unacceptable! After paying for a reputable local serviceman to repair it, he advised that the construction was so shoddy that the repair would probably not last. It was broken again after only a few bobbins. The auto needle threader was broken after a few attempted uses. The machine has never maintained proper tension and often bird-nests under the fabric. All pressure feet and accessories are cheap and do not function well. In spite of being called "commercial", it is very light on bottom and bounces during all sewing except for very, very slow. Plastic parts are painted with a "metal" look finish - pure deception. The quality of work produced by this machine is embarrassing. Poor lighting, plastic pedal.

Attempts to resolve through Singer Co. customer service are ridiculous. While the ladies answering calls are sweet - they are powerless to resolve this LEMON situation. The wait time on phone is 30 minutes to 1 hour - behind 20 other callers. I am disappointed that my children wasted hard-earned money relying on the reputation of the Singer name.
