In December, I purchased this at Wallmart, when my Belvedere-Adler quit after 40 years of use. The tension is bad. The thread breaks continuously. I was making doll clothes and you could not sew 2 pieces of cotton fabric without breaking the thread. I do not use cheap thread. Please read the bad reviews on all singer machines. The thread is also caught in the spool, because it is not upright. I bought a Janome 2212 from Amazon this week that is fabulous. No breakage. Sewing was a pleasure

I have been sewing for many years, but just wanted a machine that was easy and simple to use. This one is not it. Threading the bobbin was impossible. It was a mess. Just putting it all together was difficult. Nothing was easy. I tried watching the dvd sent,
but it didn't even work properly ~ kept stopping. I read all the reviews for this machine and should have paid more attention to the one and two star reviews. They were all correct in their reviews.

I have done a great deal of sewing over many years (5 daughters, I made most of their clothes, including one wedding dress). My 29-year old Singer decided not to work any more, so I bought this model, since now I do only simple stuff (fixing seams, etc.). I was able to do some work with it, but the thread broke often. I am having trouble with the last step before threading the needle manually (the instructions for doing it automatically were too complicated for me to follow), in that the illustration in the manual doesn't match the machine. Since I bought it from Amazon, I can't go back to the dealer for further threading instruction.

If I were to buy another sewing machine, I would go with something other than Singer.

However! Although it fulfilled its promises in the self-threading and ease of use the foot pedal was a nightmare! It sped at the speed of light - completely uncontrollable. So unfortunately I had another 30€ to pay for a replacement food pedal I bought from the Singer agent in our nearest town.

This machine is absolute junk! I got it because it was supposed to be easy to use. WRONG! The bobbin thread gets tangled constantly. The foot pedal has 2 speeds - Not moving at all and 100 mph. It has torn up fabrics and frustrated me to NO end. Then I tried to exchange it and both K-mart where I purchased it AND Singer said it had been more than 90 days and wouldn't do anything. Not an exchange or refund. Wanted to me spend more money having it repaired. No Way! I bought a Brother machine and it works great!
