Editorial Reviews

The eighth volume in the Ace Records highly successful mid-price series based on B.B. King's original Crown LPs with bonus tracks. 'Singin' the Blues' was the very first Crown LP in 1957, and some say the very best (with a cover to match). It is truly a collection of his greatest early hits. The eight bonus tracks (including four previously unissued) are of the same high quality, and feature impeccable vocal and guitar work from B.B., with accompaniment by the Maxwell Davis Orchestra. 2005.

1. Three O'clock Blues
2. You Know I Love You
3. Woke Up This Morning (My Baby's Gone)
4. You Upset Me Baby
5. Please Love Me
6. Blind Love
7. Woke Up This Morning
8. You Know I Love You
9. Sweet Little Angel
10. Ten Long Years
11. Did You Ever Love A Woman
12. Crying Won’T Help You
13. Whole Lotta Meat (Bonus Track)
14. I’M Cracking Up Over You (Bonus Track)
15. I Stay In The Mood (Bonus Track)
16. When My Heart Beats Like A Hammer (Bonus Track)
17. Jump With You Baby (Bonus Track)
18. Lonely & Blue (Bonus Track)
19. Dark Is The Night Pt 1 (Aka The Blues Has Got Me) (Bonus Track)

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Annie Van Auken TOP 500 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on July 9, 2013
Format: Vinyl
Founded in 1950, RPM was a subdivision of MODERN Records. For its first six years, RPM issued only 45s. In '56 the label entered the LP market with A ROCK AND ROLL DANCE PARTY (LRP-3001). Another eight RPM titles were announced, including records by the Teen Queens and the Jacks, but these may not exist on the RPM label. For certain, MODERN released those eight under their CROWN imprimatur.

B.B. King's SINGIN' THE BLUES is one of the eight. Originally scheduled as LRP-3005, it appeared in 1957 on CROWN as CLP-5020. It's a legitimate "best of" album that includes ten of King's early R&B hits, including his first-ever charting single, "3 O'Clock Blues."

Includes highest R&B chart positions and years of release, (where applicable).

SIDE ONE
Please Love Me (#1, 1953)
You Upset Me Baby (#1, 1954)
Every Day I Have the Blues (#8, 1955)
Bad Luck (#3, 1956)
3 O'Clock Blues (#1, 1951)
Blind Love

SIDE TWO
Woke Up This Morning (My Baby She Was Gone) (#3, 1953)
You Know I Love You (#1, 1952)
Sweet Little Angel (#6, 1956)
Ten Long Years (#9, 1955)
Did You Ever Love a Woman
Crying Won't Help You (#15, 1956)

The title says it all. This is Young B.B. singing and playing with grit and soul that is rarely recorded. Just get this album now!
