5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest movie musical of all time now is a superb CD!
Rhino has outdone themselves with this new SINGIN' IN THE RAIN double CD set. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good but NO tap sounds
I truly love the movie, but this soundtrack doesn't do it justice in my mind. Most of my favorite songs (Good Morning, Moses, Make them Laugh, etc.) depend heavily on the tapping in the background, which does NOT get carried into the soundtrack. I love the movie, and the music from the movie, but the soundtrack certainly leaves a lot to be desired. If you want to listen...

This review is from: Singin' in the Rain (1952 Film Soundtrack) (Deluxe Edition) (Audio CD)
Rhino has outdone themselves with this new SINGIN' IN THE RAIN double CD set. They have dramatically improved the sound since the last single CD, and added many tracks that weren't on their first issue. Secondly, someone wisely re-programmed the tracks so that some of the less interesting underscoring cues were moved to a "supplemenary section" on the 2nd disc, so that the listening experience of Disc One is a real treat.

As for the music, it is of course, without peer. You get the great performance from the most beloved movie musical of all time. In addition, Rhino provides the ORIGINAL versions of all the SINGIN' IN THE RAIN songs, including 4 never-before-released tracks from BROADWAY MELODY OF 1936, and an obscure rendition of BEAUTIFUL GIRL sung by someone named Sam Ash (could he be the same guy that owned the music stores???). In any case, for fans of the movie, this is the quintessential soundtrack album. For MGM musical afficianados, this release is a dream come true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extra Great 50th Anniversary Edition!, February 24, 2005

2 Very Long CD's include every tune from the famous MGM musical, plus an extra edition of BROADWAY MELODY. CD 2 has a few tunes from the 1930's that may seem a bit dated, but the several numbers by Judy Garland, including SINGING IN THE RAIN, from the early 1940's easily make up. How can you miss with this soundtrack including MOSES SUPPOSES, GOOD MORNING, SINGING IN THE RAIN, and all the rest!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack, October 14, 2004
This review is from: Singin' in the Rain (1952 Film Soundtrack) (Deluxe Edition) (Audio CD)
The Soundtrack Is Really Great. The Music Has Been Remastered For The Best Possible Sound Ever. But I Only Have One Question. Where Is The Two Tracks Gene Dreams Of Kathy, And From Dueling To Dancing? How Could They Put The Complete Soundtrack On Two Cd's And Leave Two Tracks Off? It Don't Make Sense. Anyway It Is Still A Great Soundtrack To Own.

If you want to listen to a long CD with everything related to Singing in the Rain, this would be a good buy for you, but if you're looking for your favorite songs, I'd look to iTunes or Amazon's new DRM-free downloads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who doesn't love "singin in the rain?", June 30, 2009

Our "clan" gathers one week each summer in a big ol' beach house. We have a tradition (it's hilarious) where each has to lip-sync (or sing along) to a particular song. This year I'll try my darndest to recreate Gene Kelly's umbrella dance and sing along to this magicallly fun song. I think I'm a shoo-in to win this year's goofy "talent" contest. I've had the movie for years so I know the choreography, but now finally, I have the full CD. It's one great song after another. Ummm, now where'd I leave my umbrella?

5.0 out of 5 stars the perfect movie, March 10, 2007
This review is from: Singin' in the Rain (1952 Film Soundtrack) (Deluxe Edition) (Audio CD)
My old Gene did it: the perfect movie, the perfect american history, the perfect music. Some people think musicals are "B" movies. I say them: look about the dream, the performance, the music.
Who can say what is beatiful? Look at faces of Gene and Stan during the shooting on the set: whole concentration and attention for everything.
This is a unique moment in their story, and in the story of cinema.
Unforgettable.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE MY FAVORITE SONG, AND THANKS TO THIS CD I CAN LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY LONG!!, January 27, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Singin' in the Rain (1952 Film Soundtrack) (Deluxe Edition) (Audio CD)
I love Singin' in the Rain. It was the movie that made me like musicals, not those simple, mellow movies like South Pacific and the Sound of Music, but REAL musicals, with people like Fred Astaire or Eleanor Powell tapping their hearts out, or great singers like Frances Langford or Dick Powell putting over a song like they mean it.The Singin' in the Rain 2disc special edition introduced me to my favorite movie, the Broadway Melody of 1936, the MOST AMAZING MOVIE EVER! So I was so glad when my parents got me the soundtrack to Singin' in the Rain, and besides the music of the 1951 versions of the Nacio Herb Brown/Arthur Freed, there are also the original versions of the songs in their original movies. I am so glad that Rhino put the duet of Robert Taylor and June Knight singing I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin' on this CD set! It's my favorite song, and now I can listen to it! Hooray!! It's the best song EVER!! There's also vocals of Charles King singing the Broadway Melody, which is great! And many more, like Bing Crosby, Frances Langford, Jeanette MacDonald, and other great singers I can't think of right now. This CD set is great, the sound is nice and un-staticy (mostly), there are 30-plus songs, and the price is phenomenal. I love my favorite song, and now I can listen to it all day long!! Yay! :)
