These songs whisper loudly to slow the world down, to

5.0 out of 5 stars Sparse and haunting September 14, 2010
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I just downloaded these tracks today. This is my first Josh Tillman album, so I can't compare it to his earlier works. From one perspective, you could say there's not much here--for the most part, just a guitar and a voice; from another perspective, though, this recording is chock full of poetic and at times cryptic lyrics sung with sparse, hushed vocals and haunting melodies. I suspect some people will love Tillman's approach, and some will hate it. I, with my occasional melancholy frame of mind, fall squarely into the former category.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't stop listening to Singing Ax! January 4, 2014
By Mary S.
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
This is a beautiful collection of songs - I listen to it all the time (except for One Task, which is so heartbreaking, I can't bear it very often). A Seat at the Table (last song) is my favorite of these - it is so perfectly exquisite, ah, must turn it on now! The recording itself is incredible - recorded with such precision and genius by Steve Albini in Chicago.
