Jimmie Rodgers "The Singing Brakeman" = An Excellent CD From the "Father of Country Music"!!!!!!,
By Gary Covington "Southern Rocker" (Louisiana, U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Singing Brakeman (Audio CD)
This is a great collection of Jimmie Rodgers songs. These are old recordings, so you have to consider that. They are a little "raw & unpolished", but they are very good. I've been to the Jimmie Rodgers' Museum in Meridian, Mississippi (they have an entire park dedicated to him, it even includes a train engine, and 2 cars). Anyway, this is some great early "Southern Country & Rock". Most of the songs contains southern themes. Lynyrd Skynyrd covered Jimmie Rodgers' Blue Yodel (T for Texas - T for Tennessee), and perfected it into about a 10 minute long song. Anyway, this is a great CD, plus it is a historic one. If you like "roots" type music, you should love this one, and in that context, I highly recommend it. Thanks!!!
