2.0 out of 5 stars Look for other models January 18, 2009
I almost purchased this yesterday and then saw that this was a Sam's Club exclusive. I instead went to Sam's to see the model in person and I am very glad I did. There are a ton of reasons NOT TO BUY this product. First is that the key control, mic volume control and echo control are ALL on the SAME function button, so you have to scroll thru till you get to your specific need (a pain!!!) On other models, all these controls are separate from each other and much easier to fine tune. They are preset on here instead of being a dial function so even tougher to really fine tune. Also, when you load in a CD, and you want to get to track 12 on it, you have to push the seek button, count to two, and push it again and keep doing that until you're at track 12. If you try seek too fast, it says "invalid key" and it takes you a good 45 seconds to get there. Third, the standby button, while a good idea in theory, should keep you where you are on the CD. Instead, it takes it all the way back to the beginning of the CD, so there you are again having to press the seek button, count to two, etc. Another drawback, it only comes with one microphone, and it's corded. Wireless would have been better. The last thing would be the two speakers on the side of the top of the unit itself...not so good. The tower is nice with good sound, but not the actual little ones.

A couple pluses, first machine I've seen that you can load in a memory card to record yourself and have it on mp3 format. That idea is awesome. If that's something you want, this is your machine. Lastly, the fact you can disconnect the top of the unit and set it on a table is a nice idea, again though, the little speakers are awful.

Go with the STVG-999...much better on control function and easier to navigate through a CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good at all! September 13, 2009
I wish I would have seen the reviews for this product before I purchased it. I bought it at Sams Club for $99, however, the sound quality is very poor. The sound when you talk or sing into the microphone almost reminds me of a kiddie karaoke machine. I am definitely returning this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its great for my purpose January 27, 2011
I use this to record my m/c routine to I can perfect my expressions, tone of voice and jestures.

It is a simple process to turn on the video, plug in USB drive, hit record and then later view on the computer.

Quite a few friends have tried it and used it for singing. You have to sing/talk directly in the top of the mic or you will not get good volume or quality. A replacement mic that is high quality woulf help but really not necessary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price July 12, 2011
I have had this unit for a year now and I think its been GREAT. I have used it to sing at 2 funerals and everyone was impressed with it. My children use it all the time and are also very happy with it. The speakers that are in it could use improvement, but you can easily hook either an extra speaker to it, or plug it into a stereo unit. Another thing I like about this unit is its ability to play DVD's. I have actually used this unit outside by our campfire; I pluged a HD projector to its video output, put in a DVD and projected it on our garage. A great way to make memories, and since it comes apart, its very portable. I also like the fact that you can use this unit to record yourself with both audio and video and then post it on your social media sites. Another cool thing I have used this unit for is I can plug my MP3 player into it and just use it as an outdoor speaker. Why this unit has gotten soo many bad reviews, I dont know. I have enjoyed my unit since the day I bought it.

1.0 out of 5 stars singing machine pedestal DVD/CDG karaoke system SMD-52 January 4, 2010
By Donna
HATE IT..you can't hear yourself unless you turn the volume all the way up then the music is too loud..half the time your voice doesn't even come out of the speakers...got it at Sam's club for my 9yr old son...He was very upset since it was a Santa present. LOST THE RECIEPT so My husband called to company..they want to send a new mic out..I don't think it is the mic. Will try to get my money back..and get a different one.

Read great reviews so was disappointed. Apparently have to have CDg's with lead vocals or can't hear singing all of the time. Could only hear the refrain with the Party Time CDG's we got. I like the look and the words that are typed but bummed can't hear.

machine is great, I I wish it had a way to slow down the dong or speed it up a bit and change the key, but it serves its purpose and I have been enjoying it quite a bit.
