5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy With This!
We started to get the model below this one but decided this one would be the better one for the features. Then as a totally added bonus, we found it for $100 less than the online prices at our local Sam's Club (worth the membership price if you don't already have one). Finding it at the lower cost made it the same price as the first lower model we were considering...

1.0 out of 5 stars PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT
I was naive enough not to believe the other bad reviews about it, and thought I would be lucky, since no other product alike was available at the moment I wanted a karaoke. When I finished assembling it and connected it to the power source the cable began heating badly at the point of almost fire. We disconnected and tried again in a few minutes and then again the main...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy With This!, December 14, 2006
This review is from: Singing Machine STVD-1001 Pedestal DVD/CDG Karaoke System with Tower Speakers and Subwoofer (Electronics)
We started to get the model below this one but decided this one would be the better one for the features. Then as a totally added bonus, we found it for $100 less than the online prices at our local Sam's Club (worth the membership price if you don't already have one). The machine seems very sturdy. The speakers have a good amount of power and sound very good. It was very easy to put together and to use. We had it up and running within 10 mins, if that. We love that it plays all types of discs - cd, cd-g, cdr and cdrw, dvds... The microphones so far seem very good, the cordless one will pick up from another room in our house and the wired one has a pretty long cord. The screen in the machine is very easy to see from many angles. It can record you while you sing and as long as there is enough light the quality seems much better than we expected to get from such a video recorder, the lens for recording can be adjusted which is a nice feature. The kids really love it and so do the adults.

The remote is very feature packed as well and can do anything the machine needs.

I highly recommend it to anyone considering getting it.

5.0 out of 5 stars most fun Christmas ever!!!, November 22, 2007
This review is from: Singing Machine STVD-1001 Pedestal DVD/CDG Karaoke System with Tower Speakers and Subwoofer (Electronics)
We purchased this last Christmas from Sam's Club (at a deeply discounted price) for our then 9 year old son. It ended up being the biggest party ever. The quality is superb. Buy some classic oldies and crank it up. I have some priceless video of my 62 year old father singing Chantilly Lace. I love this because it is (1) not a video game (2) everybody can play (3) it is entertaining for my son when he plays by himself. I highly recommend this. I don't think we can beat last year's Christmas.

Like others have written, this machine just about does it all.
Excellent sound quality. The wireless microphone must be held very close to the mouth to be heard well though. It's a shame they did not install a color monitor in this unit. But it's not really a problem. You can hook up two external color monitors to this machine. One color monitor will be used for the video camera to see yourself. And the other color monitor will be used to see the song lyrics. Just hook up one to the DVD video output for the lyrics and the other on standard video output for the camera. I picked up two used 13" color televisions at our local Salvation Army store for $20 dollars each. They work fantastic for this setup. I also picked up a second corded microphone from Best Buy. My six year old niece went crazy when I set this thing up and she got to sing with the Hanna Montanna cd and saw herself on the television. I might pick up a couple of adjustable karaoke monitor stands to polish off this setup.
I also purchased this at Sam's Club for $140 dollars. I had a friend with a membership pick it up for me. Do yourself a favor and get one of these, you won't be dissapointed. Just make sure you open it right away and test it to make sure it all works. If it does'nt, then take it back to the store right away and get a new one. Thanks for reading.

When I finished assembling it and connected it to the power source the cable began heating badly at the point of almost fire. We disconnected and tried again in a few minutes and then again the main cable overheated and smoke came out of the cable and the Unit!!! A terrible Fire hazard. Don't buy this junk! Amazon refunds you but you lose the S&H, plus the bother of all the process.

1.0 out of 5 stars Singing Machine comes defective or broken, January 21, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Singing Machine STVD-1001 Pedestal DVD/CDG Karaoke System with Tower Speakers and Subwoofer (Electronics)
I bought 2 of these for my kids for Christmas this year. One box was damaged during shipping but the machine was OK. But the other machine we received actually caught on fire during the first 5 minutes. Amazon was quick to replace it. The replacement came but again the shipping box was flimsy and the base of the machine was broken in half. We glued it back together rather than make our daughter wait another week for her Christmas present. This one has its problems, too. The cd/video player freezes up and we have to unplug it to make it reset (reboot?). For $240, this machine is not worth it. And since it gets damaged easily during shipping, I would not buy another one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Once, twice a bad purchase, January 20, 2008
This review is from: Singing Machine STVD-1001 Pedestal DVD/CDG Karaoke System with Tower Speakers and Subwoofer (Electronics)
Had to return this item twice due to malfunctioning microphones. We bought it for a friend's family of three girls, as a Christmas present. Needless to say, they were disappointed more than once.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Singing Machine model is a terrible product, July 27, 2008
This review is from: Singing Machine STVD-1001 Pedestal DVD/CDG Karaoke System with Tower Speakers and Subwoofer (Electronics)
We received the Singing Machine system from Amazon in a timely manner, but when we received the machine we had used it for only about 30 minutes before it froze up and would not play. We then sent it back and got a replacement and it did the same thing. We returned the replacement machine and got our money back. I would not recommend this model or brand at all. You would think for the cost of this model that it would work better than this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Was great when it worked, January 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Singing Machine STVD-1001 Pedestal DVD/CDG Karaoke System with Tower Speakers and Subwoofer (Electronics)
I purchased this karaoke machine for my wife for Christmas. It just took a few minutes to assemble, and we were up and singing in minutes. Very easy to use, decent sound and a nice picture from the little camera.
Unfortunately, the next time we tried to use it, it wouldn't power up. Tried it in multiple outlets (no, we weren't in the middle of a blackout), and did the obligatory jiggling of all the wires and double checking connections, but no little red light to signify receipt of power.
Had to return it, luckily Amazon had extended it's return policy to January for items purchased in November. Had no problem returning and received my refund from Amazon promptly. Wouldn't give it 1 star because it was a nice system but it would have been a higher rating had it continued to work properly.
