Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
These Karaoke systems that play CDG discs seem nice, but have a basic flaw. The CDG discs do not contain very many songs. The first discs only had 4 songs each. Some newer discs have up to 16 songs, but they have to be short.

To get a good library of songs, you need to collect a lot of discs. To jump around from song to song, you have to keep changing discs. And, it is like the old DVD players, where the system takes a long time to recognize the disc.

This is a big cumbersome unit and hard to transport.

Get a Leadsinger microphone instead. It is the same price, comes with 300 songs and is easily portable.

I was a little apprehensive trying this one out because of my terrible experience with GPX - CD+G Karaoke System (JM258)that I got from Best Buy. However, it was all put to rest when I turned this machine on. The sound is far superior, and more importantly, the microphone quality is very commendable. This may be too basic for serious karaoke buffs, but for general folks like us and kids this model fits the bill perfectly. I was able to connect my MP3 player to the machine through the provided cable and it works. So, one can get around the limited number of songs available on a CDG if you transfer them to an iPOD or MP3 player. However, you will not be able to get the lyrics on the screen if you do that, that's the trade-off.

We are really enjoying it almost everyday. I wish they had pitch control for the CD as well (it's only for playing the cassette).

I bought this for my 7 year old granddaughter for Christmas but, of course, I had to check it out first. So, I've been playing with it. Not only is it a lot of fun but the sound quality is great. I ordered a second microphone (a $39 microphone on Amazon for only $14.99) so two kids can sing at one time. The built-in camera feature will be a lot of fun for her - allowing her to watch herself sing and dance on TV. There is a wide range of voice and sound control so it makes even the WORST singer (ME!!) sound pretty darn good. Besides the karaoke feature, it plays cassette tapes and you can record yourself singing with a CD - onto a cassette tape and it comes out really well. It's not too technical or difficult to adjust so that even a 6 or 7 year old can really enjoy it. Although it's not a kids toy, the quality is outstanding and I highly recommend it especially for adults but also for children who are old enough to understand how to operate it. One NOTE: you cannot view yourself using the camera function on the monitor that's on the uniti it must be hooked up using the cables supplied, to a television set.

Piece of Junk
I cannot believe they actually sell this thing. Quality is incredibly low and we got an error message half way through most songs that required us to reboot it constantly. Read more
