This review is from: Singing Machine STVG-535 CD/CD+G Video Karaoke System with 5.5 Monitor, Two Microphone Inputs (Electronics)
These Karaoke systems that play CDG discs seem nice, but have a basic flaw. The CDG discs do not contain very many songs. The first discs only had 4 songs each. Some newer discs have up to 16 songs, but they have to be short.
To get a good library of songs, you need to collect a lot of discs. To jump around from song to song, you have to keep changing discs. And, it is like the old DVD players, where the system takes a long time to recognize the disc. This is a big cumbersome unit and hard to transport. Get a Leadsinger microphone instead. It is the same price, comes with 300 songs and is easily portable.

I was a little apprehensive trying this one out because of my terrible experience with GPX - CD+G Karaoke System (JM258)that I got from Best Buy. However, it was all put to rest when I turned this machine on. The sound is far superior, and more importantly, the microphone quality is very commendable. This may be too basic for serious karaoke buffs, but for general folks like us and kids this model fits the bill perfectly. I was able to connect my MP3 player to the machine through the provided cable and it works. So, one can get around the limited number of songs available on a CDG if you transfer them to an iPOD or MP3 player. However, you will not be able to get the lyrics on the screen if you do that, that's the trade-off.
We are really enjoying it almost everyday. I wish they had pitch control for the CD as well (it's only for playing the cassette).

I bought this for my 7 year old granddaughter for Christmas but, of course, I had to check it out first. So, I've been playing with it. Not only is it a lot of fun but the sound quality is great. I ordered a second microphone (a $39 microphone on Amazon for only $14.99) so two kids can sing at one time. The built-in camera feature will be a lot of fun for her - allowing her to watch herself sing and dance on TV. There is a wide range of voice and sound control so it makes even the WORST singer (ME!!) sound pretty darn good. Besides the karaoke feature, it plays cassette tapes and you can record yourself singing with a CD - onto a cassette tape and it comes out really well. It's not too technical or difficult to adjust so that even a 6 or 7 year old can really enjoy it. Although it's not a kids toy, the quality is outstanding and I highly recommend it especially for adults but also for children who are old enough to understand how to operate it. One NOTE: you cannot view yourself using the camera function on the monitor that's on the uniti it must be hooked up using the cables supplied, to a television set.

I bought the Singing Machine for my 6 year old daughter. She really enjoys it, although she doesn't play with it quite as much as I hoped. It is such a big and heavy system, that she can't move it around. It stays parked on the living room floor. Still, it works well and everyone in the family has enjoyed a turn with it.

This product is great for the price. It has a video camera although black and white, very nice feature. The sound is a little low through the microphone but it may just be the microphone. We had a great time using this machine. We bought it for our 8 year old daughter and she plays with it every night.

I ordered two of these as Christmas presents last year: the first one we tried was a little "off"... occasionally the screen flickered and the sound cut out. After 10 minutes of use, it died completely. Big disappointment!
I was pretty nervous giving the second one away, but thankfully, it wasn't a lemon, and it still works a few weeks later. The sound quality is decent, the singer's voice can be heard over the music, and even the little camera works well enough. The lyrics are legible both on the 5.5" monitor and on an external TV. Since we returned the non-working machine, I haven't been able to find a working replacement for it. I bought one locally but it too was a lemon! Based on user reviews here and elsewhere, it seems that literally every karaoke machine under $200 has serious quality issues; many are DOA or stop working within a few hours. Because of this, it's probably a good idea to test any karaoke machine personally before giving it to someone as a gift. I am going to keep trying my luck at the local store until I get a working unit.

It is a fun singing machine for a 10 year-old, but the screen is a bit small and dark. The video camera works fine but the images are also in black and white... Otherwise, the sound is OK, the features quite awesome. Good value.

Its a great way to interact with everyone in the family. The karaoke machine it self is great and super cheap price!
The one thing is that u might need to buy many karaoke cd's to have a good selection of songs.
